Mohammad Yousuf opened his mouth about Pakistan’s pitch

Last year, Pakistan ended the year by losing the series to the English. The bad situation at the beginning of the new year. After the first test against New Zealand, Pakistan could not take advantage in the second test. The two teams have shared the trophy by drawing the Test series. The bowlers of their own country are not able to take advantage of Pakistan soil. Why this poor state of Pakistan’s pitch? Answered Pakistan’s batting coach Mohammad Yousuf. Yousuf clarified that there is no soil in Pakistan to make the kind of pitch that is needed.

According to him, Pakistan does not have soil like Bangladesh and India That is why it is not possible to build a whirlwind pitch in Pakistan like Bangladesh, and India. Mohammad Yusuf said, “The pitch has been discussed and criticized for a long time. There is a lot of noise about why the whirly pitch is not made. I asked the curators about it during the first game. They said that the kind of soil used in India, Bangladesh or Sri Lanka to make whirly pitches. We don’t have that soil. Maybe it’s a limitation.”

Yusuf also said that Pakistan does not have the red soil that the pitch is made of in Bangladesh, India, “The pitches of India and Bangladesh are slightly different from ours. The ball spins more on their pitches. They want at least 30 per cent red soil for the whirlwind pitch, which we don’t have. It happened in the past too. The bounce of the wicket was a little less. Sometimes a ball or two would spin. There was no guarantee how the wicket would behave. It still happens. In fact, the soil is a big factor here. That’s why the ball spins less on the Pakistan pitch.”

It is possible to create whirlwind wickets in the home series on the grounds of India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. India’s Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai grounds can produce more whirlwind wickets. It can also be seen in Bangladesh. However, even after playing so many Tests at home in Pakistan, they are not able to take advantage. Yusuf claims that the whole thing is for the pitch. Earlier, Pakistan faced criticism for making a lifeless pitch against Australia and England.

Babar Azam’s team lost the series 3-0 at home against England. This time it is the same against New Zealand. After drawing the first test against the Kiwis, they also drew the second test. Pakistan remains winless at home. Since then, Babar Azam has been criticized. Many have also raised the demand to remove captain Babar from the captaincy. Although the board said they have confidence in Babar

Ashwin’s Discontent: Controversy Surrounding Mankad’s Out

The Big Bash Mankad Controversy

In the fast-paced world of cricket, controversies often arise, sparking debates and heated discussions among players, coaches, and fans alike. One such controversy recently unfolded in Australia’s franchise-based T20 league, the Big Bash. It revolved around a dismissal that left Melbourne Renegades batsman Thomas Rodgers at the center of attention, courtesy of Melbourne Stars bowler Adam Zampa.

A Disputed Decision

The incident, which occurred during a Big Bash match, saw Adam Zampa dismissing Thomas Rodgers using a Mankad dismissal – a mode of dismissal where the bowler removes the bails at the non-striker’s end before delivering the ball, if the batsman leaves the crease early. While the on-field umpires deemed it not out, Melbourne Stars’ coach, David Hussey, made it clear that even if the batsman was out, they wouldn’t have upheld the appeal.

Ashwin’s Response to Insult

This statement by David Hussey did not sit well with Ravichandran Ashwin, the seasoned Indian spinner. Ashwin expressed his displeasure, feeling insulted by Hussey’s comments. In his view, if there is a desire to withdraw an appeal, it should be done before referring the decision to the third umpire. Ashwin also emphasized that such comments were disrespectful to the bowlers and suggested that coaches should refrain from speaking on matters that the bowler and captain have chosen to remain silent about.

Ashwin’s Stance

In an interview, Ashwin shared his perspective, stating, “There has been significant debate and criticism surrounding Mankad dismissals recently. However, my opinion on this matter is that I don’t agree with retracting an appeal. If the intention is to withdraw the appeal, why involve the third umpire for a decision? It renders the dismissal meaningless and controversial. The bowler executed a legitimate dismissal as per ICC rules, and it’s a standard cricketing process. After all the commotion, the bowler and captain chose not to comment, so why should the coach intervene and potentially insult the bowlers? It goes against the spirit of cricket.”

Responsibility of Batsmen

Ashwin firmly believes that the responsibility for Mankad dismissals lies with the batsmen. It occurs when a batsman leaves the crease before the bowler delivers the ball. He further stated, “Whenever a Mankad dismissal happens, it triggers a barrage of criticism, often questioning the bowler’s ethics. But why should that be the case? Why should all bowlers bear the brunt of blame when the batsman is at fault? Why leave the crease before the bowler bowls? These are questions we should ponder. Unfortunately, the criticism is usually directed solely at the bowler.”

The Mankad Controversy’s History

Notably, in 2019, Ravichandran Ashwin himself was at the center of a Mankad controversy when he dismissed Jos Buttler in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match. The move garnered widespread criticism and debate. Mankad dismissals have been a part of cricket history for a long time, but they are often accompanied by controversy. The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently legalized this mode of dismissal after extensive discussions and criticism.

The Mankad dismissal continues to be a contentious topic in the world of cricket. As Ashwin raises valid points defending the bowlers’ actions, the debate surrounding this mode of dismissal is likely to persist. Cricket enthusiasts and experts must engage in thoughtful discussions to find a balanced perspective on the matter.

Kohli and Khawaja Rise in Rankings After Liton’s Fall

King Kohli’s Remarkable Streak

As the curtains closed on the previous year, Virat Kohli, often hailed as the “King of Cricket,” continued to demonstrate his prowess on the field. He bid adieu to the year with a resounding century in a series against Bangladesh, effectively breaking the century drought that had loomed over him since the Afghanistan match. Kohli’s cricketing journey in the new year commenced with a brilliant start, marked by his 73rd career century on home soil.

The Triumph Against Sri Lanka

In the one-day cricket series against Sri Lanka on home turf, Kohli blazed a trail. His performance in the first ODI was nothing short of extraordinary, securing victory for India with a stellar century. This monumental innings not only added to his ever-growing list of accomplishments but also propelled him up the ODI batsmen rankings. Kohli now stands two steps ahead in the rankings, claiming the sixth spot. It’s worth noting that he holds the eighth position in T20Is. Rohit Sharma leads the Indian cricket team as its captain.

Usman Khawaja’s Ascension

Across the cricketing world, Usman Khawaja made his mark with stellar performances last year. His brilliant form continued into the new year as he played an unbeaten innings of 195 runs against South Africa. This exceptional performance not only earned him accolades but also saw him rise in the ICC Test rankings. Khawaja now sits comfortably at the eighth spot among the world’s top-ranked batsmen, having climbed four places.

Liton Kumar Das’ Slide

In stark contrast, one of Bangladesh’s finest batsmen, Liton Kumar Das, found himself on a downward trajectory in the rankings. His recent performances led to a step back in the Test rankings, placing him at number 12. In the rankings, Australia’s Marnus Labuschran currently reigns supreme. On a brighter note, Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel made significant strides, jumping an impressive 20 places in the rankings after notching his maiden century

against New Zealand.

ICC Rankings Highlights

This week’s ICC update primarily centers around key cricketing events, including the Australia-South Africa series, the Pakistan-New Zealand two-Test series, and the India-Sri Lanka T20I and the first ODI. In the Test bowler rankings, Australian skipper Pat Cummins maintains his stronghold as the top-ranked bowler. Meanwhile, Jos Hazlewood’s remarkable performance, which included taking five wickets in Australia’s Sydney Test, catapulted him six places up the rankings, securing the tenth position.

Suryakumar Yadav and Shakib Al Hasan Shine

In the dynamic world of T20 cricket, India’s explosive batsman Suryakumar Yadav continues to dominate, retaining the top spot in the T20 batsmen rankings. On another note, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan proves his mettle once again, claiming the top spot among all-rounders, further solidifying his reputation as a cricketing force to be reckoned with.

The ever-changing landscape of cricket rankings mirrors the ebb and flow of the sport itself. While King Kohli and Usman Khawaja soar higher, the talented Liton Kumar Das faces a momentary setback. As cricket enthusiasts, we eagerly await more thrilling performances and ranking shuffles in the weeks to come.

Touhid Hriday: Injury Sidelines Promising Cricketer from BPL Action

A Dreamlike Run Cut Short

In the ninth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Touhid Hriday, the young batting sensation who had taken the cricketing world by storm after winning the Under-19 World Cup in 2020, was in the midst of a dreamlike run. His blade had danced to the tune of fifty runs in three consecutive matches, earning him accolades and raising hopes for his promising future in the sport.

A Twist of Fate

However, as they say, fate is a fickle mistress. Even amidst the cheers and soaring expectations, misfortune struck like a bolt from the blue. While fielding in a high-stakes match against the Dhaka Dominators, Lady Luck turned her back on the young cricketer. In a moment that changed the course of his BPL journey, Touhid Hriday sustained a finger injury that would sideline him for a harrowing two weeks.

The Crucial Moment

It was the twelfth over of Dhaka’s innings, a pivotal moment in the game. Rezaur Rahman slashed a delivery from Rajar, sending it hurtling towards Dhaka’s Nasir Hossain. The ball found its way to Hriday, stationed strategically in the point zone, and the crowd held its breath as he leaped to seize a potentially game-changing catch. Alas, the ball eluded his grasp, and the reverse swing of fate intervened. In the process of attempting the catch, Hriday’s finger bore the brunt of the impact, and it shattered.

Touhid Hriday Medical Intervention and Recovery

The aftermath of that heart-wrenching moment saw Touhid Hriday rushed to the hospital, his pain mingling with the disappointment of leaving the field mid-match. The doctors, with a solemn duty to mend his fractured finger, diligently sutured it with eight stitches. The prognosis was clear: he had to refrain from cricketing action for a minimum of two weeks to allow the stitches to heal. It was a bitter pill to swallow, for this meant he would miss the next few crucial matches for the Sylhet Strikers.

A Silver Lining in the Stats

Despite the setback, Touhid Hriday’s journey in this year’s BPL had already left an indelible mark. The young batsman had showcased his mettle in three matches, amassing a remarkable 195 runs at an impressive average of 65. His strike rate, an enviable 166.66, further highlighted his prowess. Such performances by Hriday bring a glimmer of hope for Bangladesh cricket, particularly in the context of the ongoing crisis for reliable T20I batsmen.

Sylhet Strikers’ Surge and a Ray of Hope

While Touhid Hriday’s injury was a setback, the Sylhet Strikers, the team he represents, were riding high on their newfound enthusiasm and determination. Under the astute leadership of Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, they had triumphed in all four of their matches. With 8 points, they stood proudly atop the BPL table, presenting the possibility of a last-four berth.

Touhid Hriday’s injury might have temporarily sidelined this emerging cricketing talent, but it hasn’t dampened the spirit of the Sylhet Strikers, who continue their quest for glory in the BPL. As we watch the BPL unfold, we eagerly await Hriday’s return to the field, hoping to witness his remarkable skills and further contributions to Bangladesh cricket.

Shahid Afridi’s Strategy – Providing Alternatives to Babar Azam for ODI World Cup Success

The cricketing world is abuzz with anticipation as the thirteenth edition of the One Day World Cup is scheduled to take place in India later this year. Pakistan, like other cricketing nations, has set its sights on this prestigious tournament and has already swung into action. Behind the scenes, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s Interim Chief Selector, Shahid Afridi, is orchestrating a plan to provide Captain Babar Azam with a multitude of options as they gear up for the World Cup campaign.

Winds of Change

Under the leadership of Chairman Najam Sethi, the Pakistan Cricket Board has undergone significant transformations, both in its administration and on-field strategy. This period of change was particularly evident during the home series against New Zealand, where Pakistan introduced several young and promising cricketers. These changes were not merely experimental but part of a grander scheme aimed squarely at the upcoming ODI World Cup.

Shahid Afridi’s Strategy Dinner

Recently, Chief Selector Shahid Afridi hosted a strategic dinner for Captain Babar Azam at his home. It was during this intimate gathering that Afridi unveiled his vision for the team. He expressed, “We are moving forward with a well-thought-out plan to secure success. In the upcoming New Zealand series, we have prioritized giving opportunities to emerging talents, aiming to harness their potential. Our ultimate goal is to clinch the World Cup, and for that, we want Captain Babar Azam to have a wealth of options at his disposal. Depending on the situation, he can utilize these alternative players.”

Learning from the Past

Reflecting on Pakistan’s recent cricketing history, one cannot ignore the disappointments. Pakistan faced early elimination in the previous World Cup, followed by setbacks in the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. These setbacks have lit a fire under the Pakistan Cricket Board, which has now set its sights on the ODI World Cup with renewed determination. The challenge is formidable, but it’s one that Najam Sethi’s board, under the guidance of Chief Selector Afridi, is ready to confront head-on.

Challenges and Triumphs

It’s worth noting that Pakistan recently concluded a two-match Test series against New Zealand at home, which ended in a draw. While the outcome wasn’t ideal, Captain Babar Azam remains determined to lead his team to success, especially in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Pakistan has already claimed victory in the first ODI, setting a positive tone for the series. The big question now is how well Babar Azam’s team will perform with the inclusion of these substitute players.

As Pakistan prepares to embark on its ODI World Cup journey, the role of Chief Selector Shahid Afridi in providing alternative players to Babar Azam cannot be overstated. This strategic move is not just about building a strong team; it’s about ensuring that the team is adaptable and resilient in the face of challenges. The cricketing world awaits with bated breath to see if Pakistan can overcome the hurdles and emerge victorious in the ODI World Cup.
