Murali Vijay stepped into international cricket almost two decades ago. The right-handed batsman has represented India in the Indian jersey during this long journey. Vijay, who made his debut in 2002, announced his retirement from international cricket in 2023. While announcing his retirement, Vijay recalled all the colourful moments in his long career.
Vijay himself told the media about his retirement. But the retirement of the Indian star is only from international cricket. He said to continue playing domestic cricket. Besides, he wants to involve himself in business and other activities of cricket. Vijay thanked his team, teammates, coaches, management and those concerned in the international arena at the time of farewell.
Announcing his retirement, Vijay said, “I would like to inform you that today I am officially retiring from international cricket. My gratitude and thanks to everyone involved in a long career. This journey in international cricket has been very exciting for me. It has been my dream to play for India. It’s an honour to be able to represent on the stage. I couldn’t have come this far without the support of those who have been by my side on this cricketing journey.”
Talking about his future plans, Vijay also said, “Since I will not be playing international cricket anymore, it is very stress-free. Now I can work on new aspects of cricket and business. I can take on new challenges on and off the field. I will play domestic cricket for a few more days. In cricket, I have more to give. I believe my journey will be very pleasant in the future too. Everyone will pray for me.”
It should be noted that Vijay has represented India in all three formats. Where he scored a total of 3982 runs in his Test career of 61 matches. But he played only 17 ODIs. He is also known as an experienced and effective Test batsman. After bidding farewell to international cricket, many netizens wished Vijay and wished him the best in life after cricket.
