Pakistan is next to Afghanistan without Australia playing
Australia is scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan next March. But the series was canceled at the last moment. Of course, it happened at the sole will of the Australian Cricket Board. The Australian team does not want to play, mainly because women are banned from playing cricket in Afghanistan. Of course, Afghans don’t have to sit still. Asian superpower Pakistan announced to play against them.
Recently, a notification given by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) informed that they will play a series against Afghanistan in March. The notification said, “Australia has canceled the series against Afghanistan in March. Afghanistan does not have any games at that time. So we have decided to play against them at that time. In that case, a three-match T20 series will be held between the two countries.”
As per PCB notification, this series will be held in UAE. All matches will be played at Sharjah International Cricket Stadium. Although the venue may seem neutral, it is the home venue for the Afghans. They have been using UAE as their home venue for two years. However, for a long time before this, Pakistan also used this country as their home venue.
Meanwhile, despite not being able to play the series against Australia, Afghanistan does not have to face any loss. Rather, a kind of profit has been theirs. As the Australian team single-handedly scrapped the series on their own, the Afghans pocketed a full 30 points from these three matches in the ICC ODI Super League. If the two teams battled at 22 yards, there was little chance of them scoring 30 points at power.
But even though he is benefiting in terms of points, Rashid Khanra is giving priority to the game. Afghan cricketers protested against the Australian team’s decision not to play against them. At the same time they all boycotted the Big Bash. Rashid and others did not go to play in this T20 league based on the Australian franchise. Those who went to play before the Australian decision not to play, also left the Big Bash after learning of the decision.
