Ian Healy advised Cummins to step down
Pat Cummins got the opportunity to lead Australia for the first time through Test cricket. With that opportunity, he has been very successful. Australia also has success like winning Ashes, winning other series under the leadership of this pacer. Later, the leadership of the white ball was on his shoulders. But former Australian cricketer Ian Healy feels that Cummins should give up leadership and concentrate on bowling.
The Australian Test team has not been in very good form in recent times. Cummins’ team has already trailed 2-0 in the ongoing Boarder-Gavaskar Trophy on Indian soil. After losing those two Tests by a huge margin, Cummins left the team and returned home. However, the reason for returning to the country of Aussie captain is different. He left India and flew to Australia to stay with his mother during her illness.
Meanwhile, on Cummins’ captaincy, Healy said, “It’s not right to have Cummins as captain for a long time. I think it’s better not to have this weight on his shoulders. He’s good enough as a pacer. I want him to finish his career as a great bowler. And captaincy at the same time and performing is a tough task. Cummins should have a thriving bowling career, apart from leadership.”
In that case, Healy also announced his choice as the captain for the Test. The former Aussie star chose Travis Head on the basis of experience. In this context, Healy added, “To lead in white, Head seems qualified. He has been captaining professional cricket from a young age. He has been playing international cricket for a long time. He is quite experienced.”
Healy does not want Cummins to lead even in colorful clothes. Glenn Maxwell is on his shortlist as the new captain here. Maxwell, however, is out of the field for a long time. Recently, returned to the team after recovering from injury. The batting all-rounder will return to the field with the upcoming ODI series against India. It also remains to be seen how he preform after a break of three and a half months.
