Peshawar Zalmi has pulled off an impressive 24-run win over Karachi Kings in the 17th match of PSL 2023 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium courtesy of Rovman Powell’s brilliant batting style. He was adjudged player of the match for his devastating innings of unbeaten 64 off 34 balls smashing 6 fours and 4 sixes.
After winning the toss, Karachi Kings captain Imad Wasim decided to field first sending Peshawar Zalmi to bat. Peshawar Zalmi scored 197 runs, losing 5 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. In response, Karachi Kings’ innings stopped at 173 runs after losing 8 wickets.
Batting first, Zalmi’s batsmen could not get off to a good start due to the controlled bowling of the Kings’ bowlers. Opener Mohammad Haris returned to the dressing room on the first ball of the innings bowled by Mohammad Amir. After that, captain Babar Azam, who came to the crease at one down, was also dismissed on the 5th ball of the over before opening his account of runs.
In the next over, pacer Aamer Yamin bowled a Maiden over but could not scalp any wickets. Then again in the 3rd over of the innings, Amir took the wicket of the batsman Saim Ayub (1). As a result, Zalmi’s score stood at 7 runs after losing 3 wickets in the first 3 overs.
However, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Haseebullah Khan took the team forward from there. Zalmi returned to the match thanks to the pair of 82 runs of both of them. Wicketkeeper-batsman Haseebullah returned to the pavilion with 4 fours and 3 sixes, he made 50 runs from 29 balls.
Hard hitter batsman Rovman Powell gave Kohler-Cadmore worthy support on the wicket after Hasebullah’s departure. These two put up a partnership of 85 runs for the 4th wicket. Kohler-Cadmore remained undefeated until the last ball of the innings after Powell returned to the dugout after playing a stormy inning of 64 runs from 34 balls.
Kohler-Cadmore’s unbeaten 56-run innings off 45 balls was studded with 5 fours and 3 sixes. At the other end of the wicket, Amir Jamal was unbeaten with 13 runs off 5 balls. Mohammad Amir took the highest number of 4 wickets for the Kings. Besides, Tabraiz Shamsi picked up 1 wicket.
Chasing a huge target of 198 runs, the Kings’ batsmen made a good start. They picked up 55 runs losing only one wicket in 6 overs of power play. But after that, Zalmi’s bowlers turned the match in their favour. The scoreboard of the team that lost 1 wicket in 55 runs went to 95/5 after 12 overs.
From there, captain Imad Wasim was showing the team some hope of victory. But in the end, he could not bring up the victory for his team. Imad played an unbeaten inning of 57 runs off 30 balls for the team. There were 10 fours and 1 six hit on his innings.
Besides, opener Matthew Wade scored 53 runs off 41 balls with the help of 9 boundaries. Azmatullah Omarzai and Aamer Jamal snapped up the most number of 3 wickets each for Zalmi. Moreover, spinner Mujib ur Rahman took 2 wickets.
Peshawar Zalmi has climbed up to the 4th position in the points table with an equal number of three wins and three losses in six matches. On the other hand, Karachi Kings are now in the 5th position in the points table with two wins and five losses playing seven matches.
