Peshawar Zalmi vs Lahore Qalandars (Match 23) – Highlights

Peshawar Zalmi has secured a thumping 35-run win over Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in the 23rd match of PSL 2023. Opener Saim Ayub was adjudged the player of the match for playing a devastating innings of 68 runs off 36 balls smashing 8 fours and 3 sixes.

After winning the toss, Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam elected to bat first and sent Lahore Qalandars to bowl. Peshawar Zalmi put up a huge score of 207 runs on the board losing all wickets in 19.3 overs. In reply, Lahore Qalandars was all out scoring 172 runs in 19.4 overs.

However, pacers Wahab Riaz and Arshad Iqbal played vital roles in this victory of Peshawar Zalmi. Due to the aggressive bowling by both of them, the innings of Lahore Qalandars stopped at just 172 runs with two balls left in the innings.

Earlier, the two openers of Peshawar Zalmi Saim Ayub and Babar Azam brought up a flying start for the team. These two put together an impeccable partnership of 107 runs in 10.4 overs. Mohammad Haris came to the wicket after the departure of Saim (68 from 36 balls). But he returned to the dressing room after scoring only 9 runs before being able to do anything big.

But at the other end of the wicket, captain Babar continued to lead the team forward. He scored 50 runs in 41 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore accompanied him well. He played a stormy innings of 36 runs off 16 balls. There were 2 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. In the end, Peshawar Zalmi could score a big score of 207 runs courtesy of Haseebullah Khan’s 7-ball 12-run innings.

But apart from these four, no other batsman could score a double-digit score for Peshawar Zalmi. Pacer Shaheen Afridi took the highest number of 4 wickets for Lahore Qalandars. Besides, Haris Rauf, Rashid Khan, and Zaman Khan took 2 wickets each.

Chasing a challenging target of 208 runs, the Lahore Qalandars batsmen were put under pressure from the very beginning due to the controlled bowling of the Peshawar Zalmi bowlers. They lost 4 wickets for only 24 runs in 6 overs of power play.

From there, Hussain Talat and captain Shaheen Afridi brought the team back to the match. Together they put on a daring partnership of 114 runs for the fifth wicket. Afridi scored 52 runs off 36 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes. On the other hand, Hussain Talat returned to the pavilion after playing an extraordinary innings of 63 runs from 37 balls. He hit 4 fours as well as 5 sixes.

After these two, all-rounder Sikander Raja made a last attempt to win the game for his team but he failed. He got out with 2 fours and 2 sixes, scoring 20 runs off 7 balls. With that, the team’s hope of victory also ended.

Wahab Riaz took 3 wickets with only 17 runs in 4 overs for Peshawar Zalmi. On the other hand, Arshad Iqbal also took 3 wickets with 27 runs in 4 overs. Apart from this, Azmatullah Omarzai got 2 wickets and Aamer Jamal got 1 wicket.

Peshawar Zalmi rises to 4th place in the points table with four wins and three losses in seven matches. On the other hand, Lahore Qalandars is still at the top of the points table with six wins and two losses playing eight matches.

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka at a glance

  • Sri Lanka’s World Cup ambitions are dependent on a 2-0 series win over New Zealand and India’s loss to Australia.
  • Despite a thrilling one-run victory in their last match, New Zealand has struggled in Tests this year.
  • Sri Lanka has recently been impressive in Tests, winning three of their past five matches, including an innings victory over Australia.

New Zealand Preview & Playing Squads

New Zealand has named the same 13 players in their squad for this match as they did for the historic win over England in the second Test of the series, drawing the series 1-1. Kyle Jamieson is out with an injury, and Ish Sodhi and Jacob Duffy were also not chosen.

Kane Williamson, the former captain, was the star in the Wellington Test, scoring 132 in the second innings as part of New Zealand’s total of 483. Tom Blundell (90) and Daryl Mitchell (54) also contributed with the bat and are in good form ahead of this Test.

The fast-bowling combination of captain Tim Southee, Matt Henry (back from paternity leave), and left-armer Neil Wagner claimed nine wickets in England’s second innings in Wellington. All three are looking forward to bowling on this surface in Christchurch.

Sri Lanka Team Preview & Playing Squads

The visitors enter this Test series with a spot in the World Test Championship 2021-2023 still available to them. It is doubtful, but if Sri Lanka wins both Tests in this series and Australia defeats India in the fourth, they will advance to the final.

Sri Lanka will rely on their seasoned batsmen to produce the goods in this encounter. Angelo Mathews, 35, who has played 100 Tests and scored 13 hundred, will be crucial. Captain Dimuth Karunaratne was in fantastic form in 2021 and will want to replicate that in 2023.

The talent of Sri Lanka’s spinners is unquestionable in-home circumstances, but achieving results on a green seam-friendly surface in Christchurch will be a far different situation. Last year, Kasun Rajitha took his first Test five-wicket haul, and he will be well suited to this pitch.

Cricket Prediction | New Zealand vs Sri LankaHagley Oval Christchurch

Teams that bat first has won seven of the twelve Test matches played at this venue. The average first-inning score here isn’t extremely high, which can be problematic when establishing a target later in the game. Sri Lanka should not bat first because they are visiting New Zealand after 5 years and playing a Test match after 8 months.

Rain is anticipated to fall in Christchurch over the next five days, making travel difficult. The sky will be largely cloudy, with temperatures ranging from 18 to 22 degrees Celsius.

The game will take place at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval. This pitch will have good pace and carry, but it will also feature a green top, which will help both sides’ quick bowlers.

India vs Australia at a glance

  • India leads the series 2-1 and will be competing for the Border Gavaskar Trophy for the fourth time in a row.
  • Australia has won the WTC standings and advanced to the WTC finals.
  • Australia last won a Test series in India in 2004-05, then went on to lose the next four series in a row.

India Preview & Playing Squads

India will be stung by their loss and will be eager to respond in this game. They should be too strong for Australia with their spin bowling and batting strength.

After being sidelined owing to workload management ahead of the Third Test in Indore, Mohammed Shami is expected to return to the Eleven for this encounter, with Mohammed Siraj the most likely to miss out. Shubman Gill was chosen ahead of KL Rahul in the previous game and will keep his spot.

Australia Team Preview & Playing Squads

With their stunning win last week, Australia will come into this game with more confidence. They will, however, need to perform even better if they are to win this Test against a formidable India team at home.

With captain Pat Cummins still in Australia with his critically ill mother, Steve Smith will serve as stand-in skipper for this Test. No players have reported injuries following the game in Indore, and we anticipate seeing the same starting lineup.

So far in the series, both captains have elected to bat first when they have won the toss. It would be a huge surprise if either captain chose to bat first after winning the toss in this Test.

We anticipate another Test to be played without interruptions due to rain or extremely high temperatures. Each day, the temperature will be in the low 20s at the start of play before rising to the high 30s in the mid-afternoon.

This venue has historically provided good spin-friendly surfaces, and after seeing similar pitches throughout the series, we anticipate more of the same in this Test.

Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators at a glance

  • At the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Quetta Gladiators defeated Karachi Kings with a valiant victory.
  • Lahore Qalandars were defeated handily by Peshawar Zalmi in Rawalpindi.
  • In the previous game, Aimal Khan, Naseem Shah, and Martin Guptill all gave outstanding efforts for the Gladiators.

Peshawar Zalmi Team Preview & Playing Squads

Given that Peshawar Zalmi had two straight games in PSL 2023, they have finally regained their form. Their most recent victory, a 35-run victory over the Lahore Qalandars, gave them the opportunity to move up to the third position in the standings.

The only difference from their previous game could be that Mujeeb Ur Rahman is now in the starting lineup for this team, with no injuries.

Quetta Gladiators Team Preview & Playing Squads

The Quetta Gladiators have thus far been the weakest team in the competition. They have only 2 wins under their names in the 8 contests and are situated in the last slot of the points standings with only 4 points.

Sarfaraz Ahmed is unlikely to alter his successful formula. So, it is highly likely that the Gladiators start with the same lineup as in the previous contest.

Both teams will try to win the toss, choose to bat first, and put up a massive score. This season, Pindi’s opening innings have averaged 180 to 185 runs.

The game on Wednesday is expected to take place in sunny conditions with a 20% humidity level.

The Rawalpindi game’s prepared wicket will be ideal for batting. With the new ball, the fast bowlers will undoubtedly experience some lateral movement.
