South Africa vs West Indies (2nd Test) – Highlights

South Africa won the second and final Test of the series by a huge margin of 284 runs in Johannesburg on Wednesday (March 8). The hosts beat the West Indies by 2-0 in the two-match series. Temba Bavuma took the title of man of the match with great batting in that match. On the other hand, Aiden Markram made his name in Man of the Series.

South Africa won the toss and elected to bat first and invited the West Indies to bowl. South Africa scored 320 in the first innings. Out of which Aiden Markram scored 96 runs off 139 balls with the help of 17 fours. Tony De Zorzi scored 85 off 155 balls. He also hit 11 boundaries. Besides, Dean Elgar scored 42 runs, Captain Temba Bavuma scored 28 runs, Ryan Rickelton scored 22 runs, Heinrich Klaasen scored 17 runs, and Wiaan Mulder scored 12 runs.

Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, and Gudakesh Motie took 3 wickets each for West Indies. Jason Holder also took 1 wicket.

In response, West Indies were bowled out for just 251 runs. In their 1st innings, no one could cross the 30 mark except for Jason Holder. Jason Holder scored 81 off 117 balls with the help of 8 fours and 4 sixes. Besides, Roston Chase scored 28 runs, Kyle Myers 29 runs, Joshua Da Silva 26 runs, Kraig Brathwaite 17 runs, Raymon Reifer 15 runs, Kemar Roach 13 runs, and Gudakesh Motie scored 17 runs. In the end, they managed to score 251 runs with 14 runs extra.

Gerald Coetzee took 3 wickets for South Africa. Simon Harmer and Kagiso Rabada took 2 wickets each. Apart from this, Wiaan Mulder and Keshav Maharaj took 1 wicket each.

With a first-inning lead of 69 runs, the home team South Africa found itself in a very precarious position in front of the Caribbean bowlers. 5 wickets were lost for 103 runs. Opener Dean Elgar returned with 5 runs. Tony De Zorzi, who came in to bat at number three, got out for just 1 run.

Aiden Markram, another opener, left the game after scoring 18 runs. The battle against the Caribbean bowlers was then initiated by Temba Bavuma on his own. He has Ryan Rickelton (10 runs), Henrich Klaasen (14 runs), and Wiaan Mulder as his partner. Mulder scored 42 runs off 71 balls. Bavuma’s partnership with him totaled 103 runs, which was somewhat more.

After Mulder got out, Temba Bavuma paired with Simon Harmer. Harmer got out for 19 runs after playing 59 balls. On the other hand, Temba Bavuma played the captaincy innings. With that, the Proteas gradually set a huge target in front of the visiting West Indies.

By the conclusion of the third day, Bavuma was unbeaten on 171. By the end of the third day, South Africa’s score, based on his outstanding innings, was 287 for 7. The lead stands at 365 runs.

After coming down to bat on the fourth day, however, Temba Bavuma could not advance very far. Adding only 1 run to the previous 171 runs, he returned with a catch by Kemar Roach off Jason Holder. Even Keshav Maharaj could not go far. After only 10 runs were scored, he was out.

South Africa scored 321 runs on Bavuma’s innings of 172 runs off 280 balls with 20 boundaries. Jason Holder and Kyle Myers took 3 wickets each for West Indies.

Then West Indies faced a target of 391 runs. The Caribbean lost 6 wickets for 34 runs against the Protea bowlers. From there, with Josua de Silva’s 34, Jason Holder’s 19, and Alzarri Joseph’s 18 runs, the tourists crossed the hundred mark. They were all out for just 106 runs in 35.1 overs. Finally, they had to leave the field with a huge loss.

South Africa’s Simon Harmer and Gerald Coetzee took three wickets each.

Cricket Highlights, 11 March: PSL 2023 (Match 28) – Quetta Gladiators vs Multan Sultans

Quetta Gladiators vs Multan Sultans (Match 28) – Highlights

Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans squared off yesterday (March 11) on Saturday in the Pakistan Super League’s 28th game. Usman Khan’s century in a crucial game helped Multan Sultans set a record for runs scored. In response, the Quetta Gladiators, who had just one day earlier broken the record for the run chase, came dangerously close to making history.

In addition, Quetta Gladiators are out of the series after winning just three of the previous ten games, while Multan Sultans are in second place after winning six of the previous ten games. On the other hand, Abbas Afridi’s outstanding bowling earned him the distinction of the man of the match.

This season of the Pakistan Super League has produced an unprecedented number of runs in the cricket world. The runs in the most recent games have exceeded 450. It also set several new records. But this time all those records were surpassed by Multan Sultans. Multan scored 262 runs against Quetta Gladiators at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, which is the record for the highest total in eight PSL seasons.

Prior to this, 244 was the most score in a PSL game. Multan also made that record against Peshawar Zalmi just the day before. With 5 balls remaining, Muhammad Rizwan’s squad exceeded the 243-run score set by Peshawar. The Multan team also smashed their own record this time.

The Quetta Gladiators elected to field first after losing the toss. It only took Usman Khan six overs to refute Muhammad Nawaz’s choice. In the tempest of this disastrous start, Multan scored 100 runs in just 6.3 overs.

Usman played in his debut PSL game in this encounter. He also played flawless innings, scoring 120 runs off of 43 balls. In the innings, this right-handed hitter hit 12 fours and 9 sixes.

Multan has scored 156 runs in 10 overs without losing any wickets. Multan had a chance to beat the most runs ever scored in a T20 match. Yet the team was unable to pull that out. 55 runs off 29 balls were scored by Rizwan. Russouw came back and made 15 off 9 balls. Tim David and Kieron Pollard combined for two 58 runs in the end. Multan’s run then 262 on the scoreboard. When David scored 43 runs off 25 balls, he was unbeaten. Along with that, Pollard scored 23 runs on 14 balls.

In response, Quetta Gladiators nearly won the match by chasing Multan’s massive score. Yet at 253 runs for 8 wickets, they were forced to declare. They had to put an end to their playoff aspirations after losing the game by nine runs.

In reaction, Quetta initially lost the wicket of Jason Roy, but afterward, Martin Guptill and Omair Yusuf worked together to cause a storm. They effectively reacted by scoring 60 runs in just 4.3 overs. Ihsanullah, however, split this duo. Later Mohammad Hafeez joined the dressing room at 68 runs. Following that, Iftekhar Ahmed and Yusuf created a strong partnership to secure the fourth wicket. Quetta had a notion that they could use their bat to chase an impossibly high target and win. But in 14.4 overs, Abbas Afridi put a stop to that fantasy.

Iftekhar was caught out by Afridi after scoring 53 runs off of 31 balls. In the following over, Ihsanullah returned Omair Yusuf. He needed just 36 balls to score a team-best 67 runs.

Mohammad Nawaz and Umar Akmal were also dreaming. But Nawaz, who contributed 16 runs to the team’s 208 runs, was brought back by Abbas. He sent Umaid Asif back in the very next ball, increasing the chance of a hat trick.

With four sixes that day, Umar Akmal was still giving Quetta cause for optimism. But in the subsequent over, Abbas Afridi sent Akmal back. He also completed a hat trick. Akmal scored 28 runs off 10 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes.

Qais Ahmed and Naveen Ul Haque then made an attempt. Yet all it did was close the deficit. In the end, Quetta ran out of runs after 20 overs, scoring 253. In 7 balls, both scored 17 runs.

Abbas grabbed 5 wickets and gave 47 runs in 4 overs. Ihsanullah claimed two wickets. Anwar Ali secured the final wicket.

  • Lahore Qalanders have a total of 14 points after 9 games, with 9 victories and 2 losses.
  • With 4 points after 9 games, Karachi Kings have been eliminated from the competition.
  • In their first meeting this season, Karachi Kings defeated Lahore Qalanders by 67 runs.

Lahore Qalandars Team Preview & Playing Squads

In the campaign, Lahore Qalandars have only lost two games, and we anticipate that they will be far superior against Karachi Kings in this last group stage match.

Lahore Qalandars appears to be a group that wants to play in every match, unlike some teams who want to rest players prior to their final group stage games when qualifying for the playoffs is already certain. Before this game, we do not anticipate any team adjustments.

Karachi Kings Team Preview & Playing Squads

The Karachi Kings have had a forgettable season because they have frequently been outperformed. They have players who are good enough to go higher up the table, but they will have trouble facing a confident Qalandars team.

After losing to Islamabad United, the Karachi Kings made various adjustments to their lineup and batting order before losing to Quetta Gladiators in their most recent encounter. As Matthew Wade was promoted to open, Sharjeel Khan was dropped from the team.

On this wicket, chasing is the ideal course of action because no score can be considered safe and because bowlers would struggle to bowl with the dew in the second innings.

We anticipate humid conditions with weather delays during the game.

Both teams scored many runs on the belter track in Lahore. In this game, we anticipate more run fright, which will make it difficult for the bowlers to restrain the batsmen.

Islamabad United vs Peshawar Zalmi at a glance

  • Islamabad United was humiliated by Lahore Qalandars in their previous game.
  • Peshawar Zalmi had previously lost to Multan Sultans.
  • Peshawar’s Babar Azam, Saim Ayyub, and Tom Kohler-Cadmore all put up strong performances in a losing cause.

Islamabad United Team Preview & Playing Squads

Islamabad United was soundly defeated by Lahore Qalandars on Thursday, but they had previously played outstanding cricket. They will believe they have enough talent to defeat Peshawar Zalmi.

Although Azham Khan was injured during Islamabad United’s loss to Lahore Qalandars, the keeper-batter is anticipated to return and bat as well as maintain wicket in this match. Players will want to use this match to get back on track.

Peshawar Zalmi Team Preview & Playing Squads

Peshawar Zalmi has a lot of potential, yet they are getting crushed after hitting scores of 240+. They must perform to their best if they are to win and advance to the playoffs.

Usman Qadir was the sole alteration for Peshawar Zalmi, with Aamer Jamal dropping out after the eight-wicket defeat against Quetta Gladiators. They did not become a horrible team overnight, and we anticipate seeing a pretty similar starting lineup for this encounter.

Peshawar Zalmi lost despite registering big scores in their previous two encounters. We anticipate that both sides will want to field first in this match.

This game will be played in the afternoon, when the temperature will be 29 degrees, making it substantially warmer than the evening games.

Notwithstanding the fact that Islamabad United was bowled out for 107 runs in 15.1 overs on Thursday, this is a good batting pitch. In this match, we anticipate a par score of around 190.

  • In a T20I series against a full-member nation, Bangladesh last defeated New Zealand in 2021.

Bangladesh Team Preview & Playing Squads

Bangladesh is typically a powerful team when playing at home, and they won the first IT20 match despite appearing to be in trouble. They will be confident that they can defeat England once more in this match.

On Friday, Towhid Hridoy made his international debut, and with 24 runs off 17 balls while batting at number four, he showed he belonged at this level. While Bangladesh attempts to win the series, we anticipate that he will continue to play in the same lineup.

England will continue to be perplexed as to how they managed to score only 156-6 after being 135-2 with more than four overs left on Thursday. Yet they have always rebounded well from setbacks, and we anticipate that they will do so in this game.

The two players from England’s 13-man roster who were not included in the starting lineup on Thursday were Reece Topley and Rehan Ahmed, and we anticipate Topley to be added for this match. It would not be surprising to see Chris Jordan drop because of how pricey he was with the ball.

Due to the fact that no score is now considered safe in T20Is and the difficulty of bowling with dew in the second innings, chasing is currently the best option.
