Gujarat Titans vs Rajasthan Royals (Match 23) – Highlights

On Sunday, Match 23 of the IPL took place at home between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals (April 16). In that match, Gujarat Titans set a decent target when they batted first. But Gujarat Titans’ opponents, Rajasthan Royals, defeated them in the final over of the match. Besides that, Shimron Hetmyer also won the game’s Man of the Match award for his outstanding batting.

In that match, Gujarat Titans, Captain Hardik Pandya’s team lost the toss at home. After winning the toss, Rajasthan Captain Sanju Samson urged them to bat first. Yet none of the batters who entered the batting order saw fifty. However, Gujarat Titans managed a difficult total of 177 runs despite losing 7 wickets. Hence, for the Rajasthan Royals to win, they needed to score 178.

Gujarat’s batting performance was poor after they lost the toss. In the first over, Wriddhiman Saha (4) returned to the changing room first. Yet, practically everyone experienced runs after that. Shubman Gill got 45 runs from 34 balls with the help of four 4s and one six, and Sai Sudarshan scored 20 runs from 19 balls with two fours, With the help of 3 fours and 1 six, Captain Hardik Pandya scored 28 runs from 19 balls and Abhinav Manohar played innings of 27 runs with 3 sixes from 13 balls.

Moreover, David Miller was out in the final over. Yet for 4 runs, he was unable to finish the fifty. With 46 off 30 balls, 3 fours, and 2 sixes, this batsman returned to the dressing room. Rashid and Rahul, on the other hand, each scored one run. In the end, with 5 runs extra of their total, they put up a challenging total.

For Rajasthan Royals, Sandeep Sharma claimed two wickets in four overs for 25 runs. Moreover, Trent Boult, Adam Zampa, and Yuzvendra Chahal each claimed one wicket.

A rather difficult goal of 178 runs. At the start of this target, Rajasthan Royals were in grave trouble. However, the middle order batsmen Shimron Hetmyer of the Caribbean and skipper Sanju Samson’s two brilliant innings enabled Rajasthan Royals to win with 4 balls remaining and a loss of 7 wickets.

The two openers left the game after just 4 runs in the opening. Jos Buttler scored zero runs and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored one run. Sanju Samson and Devdutt Padikkal make an effort to avert this catastrophe. The pair made 43 runs. But Padikkal was out at this point after making 26 runs off 25 balls.

Riyan Parag was likewise stopped after just five runs. Then Samson and Hetmyer knotted the partnership. They made a 59-run partnership. But after making 60 runs off 32 balls with 3 boundaries and 6 sixes, Captain Samson was out.

Then Ashwin got out with 10 runs off 3 balls and Dhruv Jurel scored 18 runs off 10 balls. Shimron Hetmyer reached 56 off 26 balls while he was still unblemished. He made 2 boundaries and 5 sixes. As a consequence, Hetmyer and Trent Boult won the match in 19.2 overs.

For Gujarat, Mohammad Shami took 3 wickets. Rashid Khan claimed two wickets. Noor Ahmed and Hardik Pandya each secured one wicket.

With 8 points from 5 games after this victory, Rajasthan Royals are now alone at the top of the standings. With six points each, Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, and Lucknow Super Giants are in second, third, and fourth place, respectively.

Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders (Match 22) – Highlights

Venkatesh Iyer has broken the century drought for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after 14 years in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has scored his first century in his career. However, the Mumbai Indians (MI) batsmen did not let his innings be memorable.

On Sunday (April 16), chasing the target of 186 runs given by Knight Riders, MI won by 5 wickets with 14 balls in hand.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan and opener Rohit Sharma brought up a great start for MI coming down to chase the target. The two together picked up 65 runs in 4.5 overs. Rohit left the field with 2 fours and 1 six, he scored 20 runs off 13 balls. Kishan picked up his fifty before leaving the field. He played a devastating inning of 58 runs with 5 fours and 5 sixes in 25 balls.

MI’s run machine Tilak Varma scored 30 runs off 25 balls before being bowled by Suyash Sharma for the team’s 147 runs. After passing a run drought, Suryakumar Yadav shined with the bat yesterday. He got out with 43 runs off 25 balls to take the team to the port of victory. His innings were decorated with 4 fours and 3 sixes. In the end, Tim David left the field after confirming the team’s victory with unbeaten innings of 23 runs from 13 balls.

Suyash Sharma picked up 2 wickets at the cost of 27 runs for the Knight Riders. Besides, Shardul Thakur, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Lockie Ferguson took 1 wicket each.

After losing the toss and being propelled to bat first, the Knight Riders got a challenging score of 185 runs in the scheduled 20 overs courtesy of Venkatesh’s century. KKR captain Nitish Rana said after seeing the wicket at the Wankhede Stadium that they intended to set a target of 180 runs at least in front of MI.

Keeping the needs of the captain in mind, Venkatesh started aggressively with the bat from the beginning. But the rest of the team’s batters could not be his worthy partner. Two openers N Jagadeesan (0) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (8) failed but Venkatesh maintained the quality of the top order that day. He also handled the failure of Nitish Rana (5) and Shardul Thakur (13) in the middle order by maintaining solitary dominance on the crease.

Venkatesh scored a century taking the team’s total to 151 runs in 16.4 overs of the innings. This is Venkatesh’s first century in his three-year IPL career. His previous highest innings were 83, against Gujarat Titans in the current season. Meanwhile, a Knight Riders batsman saw a personal century almost 14 years after Brendon McCullum.

However, Venkatesh did not get a chance to surpass McCullum’s innings of 158 that were played against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008. Iyer was dismissed for 104 runs in 17.2 overs. His innings were decorated with 9 sixes and 6 fours. In the end, Knight Riders collected a fighting score of 185 runs based on Rinku Singh’s 18 runs from 18 balls and Andre Russell’s 21 runs from 11 balls.

Arjun Tendulkar, son of Sachin Tendulkar, and Duan Jansen, twin brother of South African pacer Marco Jansen, made their IPL debuts for MI on this day. Arjun, however, bowled just 2 overs and remained wicketless with 17 runs. Duan Jansen got 1 wicket conceding 53 runs in 4 overs.

Besides, Hrithik Shokeen took the maximum number of 2 wickets at the cost of 34 runs for MI. Moreover, Cameron Green, Piyush Chawla and Riley Meredith took one wicket each.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders are in the 5th position in the points table with 4 points in 5 matches despite being defeated by MI. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians have moved up to eighth place after winning this match, they have 4 points in 4 matches.

Pakistan vs New Zealand at a Glance

  • In the second T20I, which was played in Lahore, Pakistan defeated New Zealand with ease.
  • In the second T20I encounter of the series, Pakistan had outstanding performances from Babar Azam and bowler Haris Rauf.
  • In a futile effort, Matt Henry and Mark Chapman gave outstanding performances for the BlackCaps.

Pakistan vs New Zealand Team Preview

Pakistan

In the second T20 match, Pakistan’s star openers destroyed New Zealand’s whole bowling lineup to avenge themselves. As Babar Azam led from the front and produced a century off just 58 balls to enable the home team to a score of 190+ on a track that favored the fast bowlers, with Rizwan contributing a half-century.

Despite the fact that Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman both failed to score in the last game, Pakistan is extremely unlikely to make any changes to their starting Eleven in order to win the series. This implies that Ihsanullah, Mohammad Haris, and Naseem Shah might also be added to the bench once more.

New Zealand

Despite Mark Chapman striking a brilliant half-century, New Zealand lost the second T20I by 38 runs. None of their other bowlers, with the exception of Rachin Ravindra, were able to keep their economy under 7 runs per over. The economy rate of four of their bowlers was nine runs or more.

The Kiwis undoubtedly have their best XI on the field given the few choices they have on the bench. Dane Cleaver might take over for Will Young if he fails to perform, though. Also, Blair Ticker might get a chance instead of Benjamin Lister.
