Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (Match 54) – Highlights
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) could not win the match despite collecting 199 runs. Royal Challengers’ target was easily chased down by Mumbai Indians (MI) at the batting paradise of Wankhede Stadium. Rohit Sharma’s team reached the port of victory in 16.3 overs after losing only 4 wickets in a devastating batting performance of Sky (Suryakumar Yadav).
In this victory of 6 wickets with 21 balls in hand, Mumbai Indians have jumped from eight to three in the points table. MI’s points are now 12 after playing 11 matches. Royal Challengers Bangalore have 10 points after playing an even number of matches. They are now 7th in the standings.
When Suryakumar Yadav is in form, he is a nightmare to the opposition bowlers. He seemed to be a cause of panic for RCB on Tuesday (May 9). On this day, he brought up an easy win for MI by beating RCB’s bowlers. As a result, Suryakumar was also selected as the player of the match.
As always, opener Ishan Kishan batted explosively at the beginning of Mumbai’s innings. He became the victim of Wanindu Hasaranga scoring 42 runs in 21 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes. Another opener Rohit Sharma got out scoring 7 runs off 8 balls but MI’s asking run rate was within reach due to Ishan’s 200 strike rate innings.
After that Suryakumar and Nehal Wadhera did the rest. As the two added 140 runs off 66 balls, RCB was knocked out of the match. The highest 83 runs of the innings for MI came from the bat of Suryakumar, who came down to play at one-down. Courtesy of 7 fours and 6 sixes, he played this terrible innings of only 35 balls.
Then Suryakumar was sent back to the pavilion by Vijaykumar Vyshak for the team’s 192 runs. On the very next ball, Vijaykumar picked up the wicket of Tim David (0) who just came down to bat. In the end, Cameron Green came and played an innings of 2 runs. However, Nehal played an unbeaten innings of 52 runs off 34 balls and left the field winning the game for his team. He had 4 fours and 3 sixes in his innings.
Wanindu Hasaranga got two wickets for RCB but gave away 52 runs in 4 overs. Vijaykumar Vyshak took 2 wickets with 37 runs in 3 overs.
Earlier, after losing the toss, the batsmen of Royal Challengers also made good runs batting first. But it was not as fast as MI. RCB lost two wickets in the team’s 16 runs. Despite losing the wickets of Virat Kohli (1) and Anuj Rawat (6) in the batting power play, RCB was on the way to a big score courtesy of Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell.
As a result, they scored 56 runs at the end of 6 overs. Du Plessis made 65 runs off 41 balls. There were 5 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. Maxwell’s 68 runs came from 33 balls. His innings with a strike rate of 206 had 8 fours along with 4 sixes. In the end, Dinesh Karthik scored 30 runs from 18 balls and RCB’s score stood at 199 runs for 6 wickets. But even this run was not enough in batting heaven at Wankhede.
For MI, Aussie pacer Jason Behrendorff took the highest number of 3 wickets at the cost of 36 runs. Besides, Cameron Green, Kumar Kartikeya, and Chris Jordan took 1 wicket each.
