Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (Match 62) – Highlights

Gujarat Titans (GT) has maintained consistency till now in the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The reigning champions are the first team to reach the last four after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 34 runs on Monday (May 15) night. The Sunrisers ended their dream of playoffs with a defeat.

After losing the toss and going in to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Titans collected 188 runs for the loss of 9 wickets, relying on Shubman Gill’s great century. Sunrisers’ innings stopped at 154 runs after losing 9 wickets. 

Young opener Gill is credited for this victory. He had reached the 90 mark twice in his IPL career and was waiting for a century. Finally, his dream came true. Gill’s century against Sunrisers enabled GT to build a fighting capital on the scoreboard.

SRH captain Aiden Markram decided to bowl after winning the toss. In Ahmedabad on this day, there was a fierce battle between the bowlers of the two teams. Sunrisers bowlers seemed to do a fantastic job in the first innings. Gill and Sai Sudharsan’s bats started to reply well in between. In the beginning, GT lost the wicket of Wriddhiman Saha (0).  

However, Gill made an impeccable partnership of 147 runs with Sudharsan for the second wicket. This pair was broken as Sudarshan got out after scoring 47 runs off 36 balls. He hit 6 boundaries as well as 1 six. On the other hand, opener Gill played an innings of 101 runs off 58 balls with 13 fours and 1 six. This is Gill’s first century in IPL. This is the first century by any GT player in IPL.

But in the end, one after another wickets of GT started to go down, but the scoring rate did not increase. As a result, no big score was built on the foundation built by Gill and Sudharsan. Hardik Pandya scored 8, David Miller made 7, Rahul Tewatia got 3, and Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and Mohammed Shami returned to the dressing room with zero runs. In the end, GT collected 188 runs losing 9 wickets.  

Bhuvneshwar Kumar scalped 5 wickets alone with 30 runs in 4 overs for SRH. Marco Jansen, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and T Natarajan took 1 wicket each.

Chasing 189 runs, the Sunrisers were bowled out for just 154 runs by the bowling canon of the Titans’ bowlers. In between, Heinrich Klaasen’s impeccable performance could be seen again. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Heinrich Klaasen’s 68-run partnership played a major role in Sunrisers’ 20-over batting. However, Klaasen’s 64 runs off 44 balls could not save the team.

Apart from this, Anmolpreet Singh scored 5, Abhishek Sharma 5, Markram 10, Rahul Tripathi 1, Sanvir Singh 7, Abdul Samad 4, Jansen 3, and Farooqi only managed to add 1 run. Among them, Mayank Markande was able to score 18 runs off 9 balls.

Out of the first five batsmen, four batters were sent back to the pavilion by pacer Mohammed Shami. Mohit Sharma also snapped up 4 wickets. Yash Dayal took one wicket on the day.

As a result of this victory, Gujarat Titans are at the top of the points table with 18 points from 13 matches. After 12 matches, Sunrisers Hyderabad are in 9th place with 8 points. SRH became the second team after Delhi Capitals (DC) to get eliminated from the tournament. Because even if the remaining two matches are won by them, it is not possible to ensure the playoffs of SRH or DC.
