Lucknow Super Giants took on Mumbai Indians at home in Match 63 of the IPL on Tuesday (May 16). Batting first in that match, Lucknow Super Giants set a challenging target in the scheduled 20 overs. But Mumbai Indians couldn’t reach the target as the allotted overs were over. As a result, they had to leave the field with a loss of a few runs. Along with that, Marcus Stoinis took the title of man of the match with great batting.
The Lucknow Super Giants have climbed to third place in the IPL points table after defeating the Mumbai Indians by just 5 runs. In that match, Mumbai managed to score 172 runs at the end of the allotted over despite losing 5 wickets in response to Lucknow’s 177 runs for 3 wickets.
Lucknow has 15 points after 13 games. Second-placed Chennai Super Kings have 15 points. However, Dhoni’s squad is ranked second since they have a higher net run rate. With 14 points, Mumbai is fourth in the standings. Gujarat Titans, led by Hardik Pandya, are in first place with 18 points.
After losing the toss and choosing to bat at home, the Lucknow Super Giants were in grave danger. In front of the bowlers of Mumbai Indians, LSG lost 3 wickets for 35 runs. First off, Deepak Hooda was stopped after making 5 runs off 7 balls. With the help of two sixes, Quinton de Kock scored 16 runs off 15 balls. Then Prerak Mankad hit a golden duck.
Following that, a third-wicket partnership of 82 runs off 59 balls was established by Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis. They didn’t break in this pair. However, after reaching 49 off of 42 balls with one four and one six, captain Krunal Pandya had to retire due to injury.
However, Stoinis’ storm was uncontrollable. This Australian batted ferociously and brought to Lucknow a formidable total of 177 runs. A century may have been achieved with a few more balls. Stoinis played a crushing innings of 89 runs off 47 balls while remaining unbeaten. In the innings, this all-around player hit 4 boundaries and 8 sixes. In addition, Nicholas Puran scored 8 runs off 8 balls without being out.
Jason Behrendorff of Mumbai claimed 2 wickets while scoring 30 runs. Also, Chawla claimed one wicket.
When the squad went down to bat with a target of 178 runs, the two openers helped the team come extremely close to winning. In 9.4 overs, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan combined for a partnership of 90 runs. Rohit was out at this point after making 37 runs off 25 balls. 3 sixes and a boundary were hit by him.
In 39 balls, Ishan Kishan scored 59 runs. He had eight boundaries and one six. Suryakumar Yadav was not good. After making 7 runs off 9 balls, he was out. In 20 balls, Nehal Wadhera scored 16 runs. With 32 runs off 19 balls, Tim David remained unbeaten. With one boundary, he smacked three sixes.
To win, only 11 runs were required. Everyone anticipated that Mumbai will win this match without a doubt. However, Mumbai Indians had no success with the last over. Tim David and Cameron Green, two of Mumbai’s strongest batsmen, were there for the final over.
But everything was overturned by Lucknow bowler Mohsin Khan. In his previous two overs, the medium pacer with the left hand gave up 21 runs. Krunal Pandya, the acting captain, gave him the charge of guarding the final 10 runs.
Then the rest is history. During the final over, Mohsin displayed his charisma. He only allowed 5 runs. The first ball dot, second ball, and third ball gave 1 run each. Dot the fourth ball. He gave 1 run in the fifth and 2 runs in the last. He refused to provide Tim David and Cameron Green a chance to play. In the end, Mohsin Khan’s outstanding bowling performance helped Lucknow Super Giants win by 5 runs.
