Gujarat is the IPL’s reigning champion. By playing for the first time, they won the championship in the previous season. This time, the team led by Hardik Pandya was making progress in that direction. At the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss in the qualifier game. Then Chennai Super Kings were invited to bat. In that match, despite the storm of two openers in the batting order, Chennai was unable to pose any significant challenges to Gujarat.
Chennai amassed 172 runs for the cost of 7 wickets by relying on the bats of Devon Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad. This means, to advance to the final, Gujarat needed to score 173 runs.
After stepping down to bat Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway, two openers scored a total of 87 runs between them. With 40 runs off 34 balls and four fours, Conway was out. In 44 balls, Ruturaj scored 60 runs. He also made seven fours and one six. With the aid of two fours, Ravindra Jadeja got 22 runs off just 16 balls. Ambati Rayudu and Ajinkya Rahane each scored 17 runs. In addition, Dhoni and Shivam Dubey were both out for just one run. After playing 4 balls, Moeen Ali was still unbeaten and sitting at 9 runs. In the end, they set a target of 173 runs with 5 runs extra.
For Gujarat, Mohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami each claimed two wickets. Additionally, Nalkande, Rashid Khan, and Noor Ahmed each claimed one wicket.
Gujarat Titans dominated the group stage, winning every game they played to get to the playoffs. Many people believed that Hardik Pandya’s side was unbeatable. But in the opening round of qualifying, Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings defeated that dangerous team. They suffered a 15-run defeat to Chennai Super Kings.
In response, the Chennai bowlers controlled the Gujarat Titans, who were eventually all out for 157 runs. Gujarat was defeated as a result, and it had no farewell. In the second qualifier, they will compete against the winner of the match between Mumbai and Lucknow.
Gujarat got off to a good start by going into bat with a target of 173 runs to win. Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha combined for 22 runs in 3 overs. Then, Wriddhiman was out after 12 runs off 11 balls. Shubman Gill hit four fours and one six to score 42 runs off 38 balls.
However, Gujarat’s top tier and middle order failed completely without Shubman. In seven balls, Hardik Pandya scored eight runs. Dasun Shanaka of Sri Lanka was eliminated after 17 runs off 16 balls. For four runs, David Miller was out. The 14 runs were scored by Vijay Shankar. Rahul Tewatia left the game after just scoring three runs.
Rashid Khan, an Afghan, made one final attempt to mount a field defense. His 30-ball total, however, merely helped to close the margin. He also hit three boundaries and two sixes. Noor Ahmad, another Afghan, was undefeated after seven runs. Mohammad Shami got out on the very last ball for 5 runs.
For Chennai, Deepak Chahar, Maheesh Thiksana, Ravindra Jadeja, and Matheesha Pathirana each took two wickets. One wicket was taken by Tushar Deshpande.
