Lucknow Super Giants vs Mumbai Indians (Eliminator) – Highlights

The last season ended with disappointment; this season also started with two consecutive defeats. Mumbai Indians (MI), the most successful team in IPL, felt the lack of their best bowler of the team, Jasprit Bumrah. However, Akash Madhwal did not let Rohit Sharma’s team down this time.

This young man played one of the main roles behind the team’s great turnaround at the end of the season. With his brilliant bowling, MI is now just one step away from the finals. Madhwal took 4 wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the previous match. Winning that match, Mumbai Indians made it to the top four.

However, Madhwal showed a bigger surprise yesterday. This right-arm medium pacer picked up 5 wickets conceding just 5 runs in 3.3 overs. This is the best bowling record in the IPL by a bowler who has not played international cricket.

The 29-year-old Madhwal’s record-breaking bowling helped MI to defeat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 81 runs in the eliminator match to go a step ahead in the race for the IPL final. The five-time champions will face defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the second qualifier on Friday.

MI won the toss and went into bat at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, they lost 8 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs and scored a challenging total of 182 runs. In response, the Super Giants batsmen faced the devastating bowling of Madhwal. As a result, LSG got all out after scoring only 101 runs in 16.3 overs.

Chasing the target of 183 runs, Super Giants lost two wickets early and fell under pressure. Captain Krunal Pandya accompanied Marcus Stoinis, but the left-handed batsman could not increase his scoring rate. After scoring 8 runs off 11 balls, he fell victim to Piyush Chawla and returned to the dressing room.

After Krunal’s dismissal, Ayush Badoni (1) and Nicholas Pooran (0) returned to the pavilion with a gap of just five runs. Stoinis was showing some hope to the team that lost 5 wickets for 74 runs. But when he got out after scoring 40 off 27 balls, LSG’s hopes to play in the finals shattered.

Akash Madhwal was adjudged the player of the match for taking 5 wickets. Chris Jordan and Piyush Chawla also took 1 wicket each for MI.

Earlier, the opening pair of MI scored 30 runs. Rohit departed after scoring 11 runs and Ishan Kishan was out for a personal 15 runs. Then Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav started batting stormily. While the team total was 104 runs, Suryakumar was caught by Krishnappa Gowtham near the boundary while trying to hit Naveen-ul-Haq for a six. He scored 33 runs off 20 balls.

Green departed after Suryakumar got out. This all-rounder scored 41 runs off 23 balls. After that, the team was eying Tilak Varma and Tim David, but David was disappointed. He left the field after scoring 13 runs off Yash Thakur’s ball. Tilak scored 26 runs off 22 balls. In the end, MI was able to make 182 thanks to Nehal Wadhera’s 23 runs off 12 balls.

Pacer Naveen-ul-Haq took the highest number of 4 wickets with 38 runs in 4 overs for LSG. Besides, Yash Thakur took 3 wickets and Mohsin Khan took one wicket.

Middlesex vs Surrey CCC Team Preview

Middlesex

Middlesex signed Keshav Maharaj before this season despite their terrible performance in the 2022 Vitality Blast. However, his injury has forced him to withdraw from the competition, which decreases the caliber of the team.

In spite of his success for Mumbai Indians in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), Jason Behrendorff won’t be joining Middlesex for this year’s T20 Blast. Pieter Malan, a South African who has been participating in the County Championship, will bat first in this competition.

Surrey CCC

During the group stage of the competition last year, Surrey CCC had the best record of any team. They will be confident going into this London derby and will aim to perform at a similar level.

After their IPL seasons concluded last week, Jason Roy and Sunil Narine are anticipated to join the team immediately. Sam Curran is unlikely to play, although skipper Chris Jordan is still playing for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. The team’s expected captain for the T20 Blast 2023 is Will Jacks.

In T20 cricket at this location, teams who bat first tend to perform better than those who field first. In this game, we anticipate that both teams will want to bat first.

The match is set to take place in partly cloudy weather, with a temperature drop from 18 to 15 degrees expected. Rain is not anticipated.

The Vitality Blast last year at Lord’s saw first innings scores that were on average 165. Spinners are going to experience some turn from this surface.

Lancashire Lightning vs Leicestershire Foxes at a Glance

  • By a margin of four wickets, Lancashire defeated Derbyshire in their inaugural game.
  • Leicestershire missed out on the playoffs last year, while Lancashire finished as runners-up.
  • While Lancashire has only ever won the T20 blast once (2015), Leicestershire has won it three times (in 2004, 2006, and 2011).

Lancashire Lightning vs Leicestershire Foxes Team Preview

Lancashire Lightning

Lancashire, who advanced all the way to the championship game in 2022, started this season well with a victory over Derbyshire Falcons at the weekend. We do not anticipate any changes to the team for this game, despite the fact that some of their major players have now completed their IPL seasons.

Lancashire’s top batsman in their victory over Derbyshire Falcons was Luke Wells. In his 35 balls 66, the opener scored nine fours and three sixes. Daryl Mitchell and Colin de Grandhomme, both from New Zealand, both played attacking innings and will be fascinating to see at the crease once more in this game.

Leicestershire Foxes

With so much great potential on display, Leicestershire will go to the storied Old Trafford stadium with the expectation of beating the hosts. The Foxes, who placed sixth in the 2022 competition, one point behind fourth, are playing in their first game of the 2023 Vitality Blast.

The most productive batsman for Leicestershire last year was the skipper Colin Ackermann, but he only scored three half-centuries, and the team will need more runs overall this year if they are to finish in the top four. But we anticipate that the Foxes will have a difficult time fending off this Lancashire assault.

Vitality Blast 2023 Cricket Prediction | North Group: Lancashire Lightning vs Leicestershire Foxes Emirates Old Trafford

With batters today confident in their ability to chase down any target thanks to their attacking mentality, chasing is the greatest option in T20 matches. If either skipper wins the toss, they will both choose to bowl first.

Throughout the game, we anticipate a bright, sunny, and humid atmosphere without any delays.

This Vitality T20 Blast match will take place in Manchester at Old Trafford. At this location, we typically witness a rapid and hard pitch with a par score of 170 or above.
