England vs Australia at a Glance

  • Australia has a 2-0 series lead after winning the first two games, and a win or draw will help them keep the Ashes streak alive.
  • England defeated Australia by one wicket in a thrilling Ashes match in 2019.
  • From 2021, Australia has prevailed in six of the last seven Ashes Test matches.

England vs Australia Team Preview

England

What a series it’s become so far. Australia now leads the match 2-0, but England made an effort to play daring cricket without much regard for the outcome. Although the Bazball has not yet fired, praise should be given for England’s intention to play daring cricket. But at this level, teams must be adaptable enough to embrace many plans, and if one tactic does not work, the teams must move to a different one—exactly what England must do.

The England team for the third Test has been revealed. Rehan Ahmed and Matty Potts have been let go from the team. Ollie Pope’s suspension from the series has also delivered the hosts a blow in terms of injuries. Dan Lawrence might replace Pope for England, or they might consider bringing back Moeen Ali.

Australia

Australia has been outstanding in the Ashes, preventing England from dominating. Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc, a pace three, have restrained the English batsmen. This Australian bowling team will destroy England if they remain inflexible and continue to play only one way.  To defeat this intimidating Australian squad, England must play aggressive cricket while remaining wise and cautious at the same time.

The absence of star spinner Nathan Lyon from the Ashes in 2023 has delivered Australia and other teams a severe injury blow. Australia wants to keep the lineup, with Todd Murphy being Nathan Lyon’s compelled replacement.

The Ashes, 2023 Cricket Prediction | 3rd Test: England vs Australia

The Ashes, 2023 Cricket Prediction | 3rd Test: England vs Australia

After winning the toss, both teams would choose to bat first because the surface will be quite flat. It will be prudent to score many runs because rain is expected over the remaining three days, which will make batting a little more difficult in the second innings.

Cricket will be played in ideal conditions on Days 1 and 2, but Day 3 will be cloudy, and Days 4 and 5 will be wet. This Test match can lose a lot of time due to rain.

These days, England’s surfaces are flat and conducive to batting, which supports Bazball. The teams should see a lifeless wicket once more, but the batsmen may find it difficult during the first session with the new ball.

  • Against Namibia, Riazat Ali Shah will be a potent bowler for Uganda.

Namibia vs Uganda Team Preview

Namibia

The recent performance of Namibia has been uneven. They participated in an unofficial five-match ODI series last month against Karnataka, which Namibia lost 3-2. However, they were able to maintain some pride by defeating Karnataka in their most recent match by a margin of five wickets.

As he leads the team’s push and attempts to motivate his comrades, its captain, Gerhard Erasmus, will be the center of attention.

Uganda

Uganda places a lot of attention on this tour because they want to do well and move up the rankings. They recently defeated Kenya in the Africa Continental Cup final, and this victory has given them more confidence. Uganda prevailed by a narrow margin in a heart-pounding match.

Uganda will be eager to maintain that momentum throughout this series and deliver a powerful message to Namibia. There are no new injuries.

Trott optimistic about Afghanistan’s prospects for more Test match opportunities

Trott optimistic about Afghanistan’s prospects for more Test match opportunities

Trott optimistic about Afghanistan's prospects for more Test match opportunities

Afghanistan’s head coach, Jonathan Trott, emphasized the importance of playing more Test matches to develop their own brand of cricket. Since being awarded Test status in 2018, Afghanistan has played only six Test matches, with their last one being against Zimbabwe in March 2021. Unlike other teams, they are not part of the ICC Test Championship, which guarantees a certain number of Test matches. Looking at their Future Tours Program (FTP), Afghanistan has a limited number of Test matches scheduled until 2025.

According to the Future Tours Program (FTP), Afghanistan’s Test cricket itinerary for 2023 will culminate with a challenging two-match series against Zimbabwe. Looking ahead to 2024 and 2025, Afghanistan has an exciting lineup of Test matches scheduled. In 2024, they are set to engage in captivating one-off Test encounters against Ireland, Sri Lanka, and New Zealand, in addition to engaging in two-match series against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

The year 2025 holds further promise for Afghanistan, featuring a solitary Test match against Ireland and an enthralling two-match series against Zimbabwe. The upcoming years offer ample opportunities for Afghanistan to showcase their skills and further establish themselves in the Test arena.

When asked if Afghanistan could adopt an aggressive style of play similar to England’s Bazball, Trott believed that it would depend on the players and the brand of cricket they naturally develop over time. He stressed the importance of finding the right balance and adjusting the style of play based on the available players. Trott acknowledged that England plays a lot of Tests, while Afghanistan is playing their first Test in 27 months. He expressed the hope that Afghanistan would have more opportunities to play Tests, as it is through experience that teams discover their best way of playing.

Trott also highlighted the ambition to win Test matches and the importance of developing a competitive mindset in red-ball cricket. Despite the absence of their leading spinner Rashid Khan, who was rested due to a back problem, Trott acknowledged the difficulty of replacing such an experienced player but saw the time off as an opportunity for Rashid to recover and prepare for upcoming competitions like the Asia Cup and World Cup.

Looking ahead to the Test series against Bangladesh, Trott anticipated tough competition from the hosts. He expressed confidence in surprising Bangladesh, as Afghanistan did in 2019 when they handed them a 224-run defeat in Chattogram. However, Trott emphasized that past achievements are history, and the outcome of the upcoming Test series will depend on the teams’ performance starting from June 14 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

Trott acknowledged that playing at home gives Bangladesh an advantage, as does their experience of playing more Tests than Afghanistan. Nevertheless, he emphasized that past performance and conditions do not determine future success. Trott stated that the team has prepared well and trained exceptionally, expressing excitement about playing a Test in Bangladesh. As the head coach, he is focused on ensuring that the players are ready for the Test match and ready to give their best performance.

Nepal sets sights on away triumph in Zimbabwe

Nepal’s cricket team is gearing up for an important journey as they travel to Zimbabwe with the ultimate goal of qualifying for the Cricket World Cup. After a challenging period during the CWC League 2, where they struggled to find their form and establish a consistent lineup, Nepal’s fortunes changed with the appointment of Monty Desai as head coach in February.

With a third of their League 2 campaign remaining, Nepal needed to secure at least 10 wins from their final 12 matches to secure a top-three spot and guarantee a place in the upcoming Qualifier. Against all odds, and with the support of an enthusiastic Kathmandu crowd, they managed to win 11 of their last 12 matches, including a thrilling victory against UAE decided by the DLS method on the final day of the competition.

This turnaround proved to be a significant moment for Nepal. By pushing Namibia down to fourth place and sending them to the Qualifier Play-off, Nepal ensured their own qualification. Unfortunately for Namibia, they were unable to secure a spot in Zimbabwe, with USA and UAE emerging as the successful teams. While the outcome for Nepal in the same situation remains uncertain, young wicket-keeper batter Aasif Sheikh believes that their recent success bodes well for the future.

Sheikh expressed his disbelief at qualifying for the tournament and acknowledged that winning 11 out of 12 matches was unexpected. He credited the team’s collective effort and emphasized their excitement for the upcoming qualifiers. Reflecting on their performance in the close matches during the League 2, Sheikh mentioned that those experiences would boost their confidence going forward.

The support Nepal received from their millions of fans played a crucial role in their successful campaign. Although they faced challenges during a recent preparation tour in South Africa, Sheikh remains confident that their style of cricket can thrive even in foreign conditions. While they will miss the local crowd’s support, he is confident that the Nepali people will be cheering for them from home, no matter where they play.

As Nepal looks ahead to the qualifiers, Aasif Sheikh holds firm in his belief that playing quality cricket will be the key to their success. He recognizes that each match presents a new opportunity, and if the team can deliver their best performance on the day, they have a strong chance of securing victory. Sheikh emphasizes the importance of maintaining self-belief and confidence in their abilities as they step onto the field. With a determined mindset and a collective goal to make their country proud, Nepal’s cricket team is eager to showcase their skills and leave a lasting impression in the upcoming qualifiers.

Nepal’s journey to qualify for the Cricket World Cup has been a rollercoaster ride, marked by challenges, determination, and unwavering support from their fans. With their recent success, they have demonstrated their potential and set their sights on achieving even greater heights. As they embark on this crucial stage of their cricketing journey in Zimbabwe, Nepal’s players are ready to give their all and play their best cricket to secure their place in the World Cup. The cricketing world awaits their performance with anticipation, as they aim to make history for their nation.

Scotland aims to extend giant-killing form to cricket World Cup Qualifier

Scotland’s cricket team is gearing up for a crucial period as they aim to secure a breakthrough victory in the upcoming Cricket World Cup. With strong recent form and an improving record in global tournaments, Scotland has proven that they are a force to be reckoned with. While they have caused upsets against more fancied opponents in recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cups, their ultimate goal of winning an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup still eludes them.

Although Scotland has their sights set on a potential breakthrough victory in India later this year, they must first navigate through the Qualifier in Zimbabwe. This presents an opportunity for them to test their giant-killing mettle against formidable teams like Sri Lanka. George Munsey, a key player for Scotland, embraces the underdog role and recognizes that their opponents will not underestimate them. Having experienced victories against stronger teams on the world stage, Munsey believes that they have earned the respect of their rivals.

The World Cup itself is a prestigious tournament with only ten teams competing, making every match highly competitive. Scotland takes pride in fighting against the best of the best, and this mindset fuels their determination. Their pre-camp in South Africa provided a valuable opportunity for the players to bond and reflect on the significance of the upcoming Qualifier. With a competitive group comprising Sri Lanka, Ireland, Oman, and the United Arab Emirates, Scotland acknowledges that there are no easy games. However, they have confidence in their squad’s abilities and are eager to tackle the challenges ahead.

As the warm-up fixtures approach, Scotland understands the importance of fine-tuning their performance. Since the last League 2 ODI in February, the team has not formally played together. However, their spot in the Qualifier was secured well in advance, allowing them to focus on preparations. Munsey’s previous performances demonstrate his ability to thrive under pressure, including an unbeaten 66 against the West Indies in the T20 World Cup 2022. He concluded the League 2 campaign in remarkable form, scoring a solid 60 against Nepal in the last ODI and smashing an impressive 103* from just 61 balls against Namibia, placing him among the top run-scorers in the competition.

Reflecting on his century, Munsey considers it a special memory, acknowledging the hard work and dedication that goes into representing his country. The feeling of accomplishment and the support of the crowd are moments he cherishes. Munsey aims to replicate that success in the Qualifier and play a significant role in Scotland’s campaign.

Finishing at the top of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 standings with 24 wins from 36 games, Scotland has set themselves up for a shot at securing a spot in the main event through the Qualifier. Their impressive performance throughout the league phase has given them the confidence and momentum needed for the upcoming challenge.

As Scotland prepares for the Cricket World Cup Qualifier, they are aware of the significance of each match. They have the talent, determination, and belief to compete against stronger opponents and make their mark on the global stage. With their recent successes and a desire to achieve a breakthrough victory, Scotland’s cricket team is ready to embrace the challenges that lie ahead. The upcoming Qualifier provides a platform for them to showcase their skills, and the entire nation will be eagerly supporting their campaign.
