MI New York vs San Francisco Unicorns (Match 02) – Highlights

Aaron Finch’s San Francisco Unicorns succeeded in their first match in Major Cricket League (MLC) 2023 yesterday. The San Francisco Unicorns and MI New York flourished on the scoreboard with runs Friday night at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas. Both teams scored 400+ runs. The San Francisco Unicorns won by just 22 runs in such a run-flooding match.

San Francisco Unicorns won the toss and batted first. Losing 5 wickets, they collected a big score of 215 runs. MI New York’s innings came to a standstill after scoring 193 runs for 5 wickets. As a result, Aaron Finch’s team registered their first win of the season by defeating the opponents by 22 runs.

Corey Anderson and Shadab Khan’s excellent batting style led the San Francisco Unicorns to this victory. Anderson played a devastating innings of 91 not out off 52 balls, with 4 fours and 7 sixes. As a result, he was selected as the player of the match. Besides, Shadab played a stormy innings of 61 runs off 30 balls. There were 4 fours and 5 sixes played by the Pakistani all-rounder.

However, the San Francisco Unicorns’ batters did not get off to a good start. They lost three wickets within the team’s 22 runs due to the aggressive bowling of the MI New York bowlers. In the 2nd over of the innings, wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade (5) was lbw-trapped by Proteas pacer Kagiso Rabada.

In the 3rd over, Marcus Stoinis was bowled by Trent Boult and returned to the dressing room coming at one down. In the next over, Rabada hit the camp of San Francisco Unicorns again. That time, his victim was opener Finn Allen (10). However, Captain Finch and Anderson tried to return to the match after this temporary collapse. They managed to collect 44 runs in 6 overs of power play.

But in the 7th over of the innings, when spinner Sarabjit Ladda sent captain Finch back to the pavilion, San Francisco Unicorns went on the backfoot again. Shadab and Anderson took the team in the right direction when the team was struggling to settle into the match, losing the 4th wicket for the team’s 50 runs. These two put on a partnership of 129 runs for the 5th wicket.

Due to their great batting performance, San Francisco Unicorns could finally collect a challenging score of 215 runs. Apart from Anderson, Tajinder Dhillon remained unbeaten playing an innings of 18 runs off 10 balls. Kagiso Rabada and Trent Boult took the maximum number of 2 wickets each for MI New York. Besides, Sarabjit Ladda took 1 wicket.

Mi New York batsmen were under pressure from the beginning due to the controlled bowling of the bowlers of San Francisco Unicorns. As a result, they could not score more than 40 runs after losing 2 wickets in 6 overs of power play. Opener Dewald Brevis scored 32 runs off 25 balls. Where there were equal numbers of 2 fours and sixes. Besides, Nicholas Pooran scored 40 runs off 28 balls (2 fours and 3 sixes).

Skipper Kieron Pollard and Tim David were leading the team to victory after Pooran departed for the team’s 94 runs. Pollard returned to the pavilion scoring 48 off 27 balls, with 2 fours and 4 sixes. However, David’s unbeaten 53 runs (4 fours and 4 sixes) off 28 balls could not bring the team to the brink of victory despite the Aussie playing a whirlwind innings.

In the end, San Francisco Unicorns left the field with a 22-run victory in controlled bowling by the bowlers. Liam Plunkett and Carmi le Roux took 2 wickets each for the team. Besides, Shadab Khan took 1 wicket.

Sri Lanka vs Pakistan at a Glance

  • Babar Azam has been a reliable performer for Pakistan in Test cricket over the previous 12 months.
  • Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, and Prabath Jayasuriya have performed exceptionally well for Sri Lanka in the five-day format during the past 12 months.
  • In a Test series played at home earlier this year, Sri Lanka defeated Ireland 2-0.

Sri Lanka vs Pakistan Team Preview

Sri Lanka

After humiliating Ireland in the previous series, Sri Lanka is back playing Test cricket. Dimuth Karunaratne will serve as the team’s leader, while other members include Pathum Nissanka, Angelo Matthews, Dhananjaya de Silva, Kusal Mendis, and Prabath Jayasuriya. The most recent series between Sri Lanka and Pakistan concluded in a tie.

Dimuth Karunaratne, the team’s most reliable batsman, will be crucial to Sri Lanka’s batting. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis both showed respectable play in the ODI World Cup qualifiers. Runs in the last games benefit at the beginning of a new series, despite the format being different.

Pakistan

Pakistan will be desperate for a victory after a 3-0 home loss to England and a 2-0 tie with New Zealand. The Babar Azam-led team will be aiming for good results now that Shaheen Afridi is healthy and back.

Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan will aim for a strong start to the series as they have been Pakistan’s most reliable batsmen across all formats. 79 runs were also scored by Babar in the exhibition game. The team’s other important batter will be Imam ul Haq.

Both teams will be eager to select their side at the toss, bowl first, and take advantage of Galle’s pitch conditions. At Galle, the first-inning average is almost 366 runs.

Given that thundery thunderstorms are expected over the course of the match’s five days, the weather for the first test is far from ideal.

On Days 3, 4, and 5, the Galle wicket often favors spinners, whereas Days 1 and 2 are fine for batting. On this surface, winning the toss and scoring many runs is the way to go.

Bangladesh vs Afghanistan (1st T20I)

Bangladesh won a T20I match against Afghanistan 16 months ago. Yesterday, the Tigers defeated Rashid Khan’s team in Sylhet after a long time. Towhid Hridoy and Shamim Hossain contributed the most to this great win. Towhid’s brilliant batting and Shamim’s strike rotation led the hosts to secure a breathtaking 2-wicket victory in a tight match.

On Friday (July 14) at the Sylhet International Stadium, Afghan medium pacer Karim Janat became the cause of fear for the Bangladesh team by picking up a hat-trick in the last over. Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taskin Ahmed, and Nasum Ahmed got out one by one. In the end, the Tigers needed 2 runs from 2 balls. Just then, Shoriful Islam confirmed the team’s victory by scoring 4 runs.

When Bangladesh first lost the top-order batsmen and was under pressure, Towhid and Shamim put up resistance together. At one point they became aggressive. In the end, Towhid remained unbeaten with 47 runs from 32 balls. Shamim Hossain scored 33 runs off 25 balls.

Bangladesh lost Rony Talukdar’s wicket scoring just 5 runs in the run chase. Rony was bowled by Fazalhaq Farooqi, scoring 4 runs off 5 balls. After the fall of one wicket, Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto tried to resist together. After the duo added 25 runs to the scoreboard, Shanto (14) was bowled by Mujeeb Ur Rahman.

After losing two wickets, Bangladesh was hoping to get victorious with Litton’s bat. He has been the best batsman for the Tigers for the last few years despite being out of form in recent times. But even today his bat did not respond well. He became Azmatullah’s victim by scoring only 18 runs off 19 balls. After a while, rain interrupted the match. As a result, the game stopped.

After the rain, Shakib started attacking the Afghan bowlers. But he could not last long into the crease. He returned with a catch near the boundary off Fareed Ahmad. The Bangladeshi all-rounder scored 19 runs off 17 balls with the help of 3 fours.

Then two young cricketers, Towhid and Shamim took charge. They were crossing boundaries whenever they got a chance between singles and doubles. Rashid Khan broke their great pair. At that point, Shamim scored 33 runs and left the field after being caught by Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

But in the end, Towhid left the field after the team reached the port of victory. He was also adjudged Player of the Match. And with this victory, the host Bangladesh advances 1-0 in the two-match series.

Karim Janat took the maximum number of 3 wickets for Afghanistan. Besides, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Rashid Khan, Fareed Ahmad, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Azmatullah Omarzai took 1 wicket each.

Earlier, Afghanistan collected a challenging score of 154 runs after losing 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Mohammad Nabi scored the highest 54 runs for the team. The second-highest score of 33 runs came from the bat of Azmatullah. Najibullah Zadran scored 23 runs and Rahmanullah scored 16 runs.

Shakib Al Hasan grabbed the highest number of 2 wickets for Bangladesh. Nasum Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mehidy Hasan got one wicket each for the winning side.

Pakistan’s Bold Move Stirs Up ICC World Cup 2023

Pakistan’s Bold Move Stirs Up ICC World Cup 2023

Pakistan's Bold Move Stirs Up ICC World Cup 2023

The 2023 ICC World Cup is quickly approaching, and the issue of hosting rights has once again taken center stage. Pakistan, in response to India’s refusal to travel to their country for the 2023 Asia Cup, is planning a bold move to request that their World Cup matches be played at a neutral venue. This decision has reignited the long-standing debate over hosting rights and added a new layer of complexity to the tournament.

Historical Rivalry and Diplomatic Tensions

The tension between India and Pakistan in the realm of cricket has a rich history dating back several decades. These two nations share a deep-seated rivalry that goes beyond the boundaries of the sporting arena. Political and historical complexities have often spilled over into cricket, particularly during high-stakes matches between the arch-rivals. The intensity of this rivalry has resulted in disruptions and relocations of matches in the past due to security concerns and diplomatic tensions.

Pakistan’s Concerns for Player Safety

Pakistan has been hesitant to travel to India for cricket assignments since the 2016 T20 World Cup. Even during that tournament, the India-Pakistan match had to be relocated from Dharamshala to Kolkata at the last minute. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has consistently cited security reasons as their primary concern, pointing to past incidents and the prevailing political atmosphere between the two nations. This apprehension has led Pakistan to seek alternate arrangements for their World Cup matches.

The Request for Neutral Venues

The PCB Chairman, Zaka Ashraf, is scheduled to make a formal request during an upcoming ICC meeting in Durban. The request is for Pakistan’s World Cup matches, which are currently scheduled to be played in Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad, to be held at a neutral venue. This demand stems from the desire to ensure the safety and security of the Pakistani players, given the strained relationship between the two countries.

Challenges for the International Cricket Council (ICC)

Pakistan’s request for neutral venues presents a significant challenge for the International Cricket Council and the respective cricket boards involved. Finding suitable neutral venues at short notice that can accommodate World Cup matches may prove to be a logistical nightmare. The ICC and the cricket boards will need to carefully evaluate potential locations that can provide adequate security and infrastructure to host these high-profile matches.

Impact on Host Country and Stakeholders

Hosting matches at neutral venues has the potential to affect the revenue generated by the host country, as well as broadcasters, sponsors, and other stakeholders. The World Cup is not only a highly esteemed tournament but also a significant source of income for all parties involved. Moving matches to neutral venues can disrupt established revenue streams, leading to financial consequences that must be taken into careful consideration prior to making any decisions. It is crucial to thoroughly assess the impact this may have on the various entities involved before moving forward.

In conclusion, Pakistan’s bold move to request neutral venues for their World Cup matches has stirred up the cricketing world. The historical rivalry and diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan have added a layer of complexity to this issue. While player safety is paramount, the decision must also consider the financial implications and the spirit of the game. The ICC and the cricket boards involved face a challenging task in finding a resolution that satisfies all parties.

Is David Warner’s Place Secure for the Old Trafford Test

Is David Warner’s Place Secure for the Old Trafford Test

Is David Warner's Place Secure for the Old Trafford Test

In the world of cricket, every decision counts, and with the Old Trafford Test on the horizon, the Australian team is facing a selection dilemma. The return of Mitchell Marsh has impressed everyone, raising questions about David Warner’s position in the team. Here is a comprehensive analysis of the situation, highlighting the factors that might influence Warner’s place in the upcoming Test.

The Impact of Mitchell Marsh’s Comeback

Mitchell Marsh’s remarkable century on the opening day of his first Test in four years has undeniably made him a strong candidate for the team. His impressive performance has created a selection squeeze, leaving the team management with a difficult decision to make. While Cameron Green’s fitness for the fourth Test looks promising after a minor hamstring strain, the question remains whether he will be brought back immediately or if another player will have to make way.

The Spotlight on David Warner

David Warner’s recent twin failures at Headingley, where he fell to Stuart Broad’s delivery on both occasions, have brought the spotlight back onto him. This marks the 17th time Warner has been dismissed by Broad, raising concerns about his current form. However, it is important to acknowledge Warner’s contributions earlier in the series, particularly his crucial 66 runs on the challenging opening day at Lord’s. Despite being dropped in the slips at 20, Warner has shown his potential to perform when the conditions are tough. It is worth noting that his overall Test average since 2021 stands at 28.17, including a memorable double century against South Africa at the SCG.

Evaluating the Options

Captain Pat Cummins, while not a selector, emphasized the team’s intention to explore all available options during the break before the Old Trafford Test. With Cameron Green’s expected return and Josh Hazlewood’s availability, Australia will have a full roster to consider. The team management will carefully assess the pitch conditions and engage in discussions to determine the best possible XI for the crucial Test match.

Pat Cummins’ Remarkable Fitness

Pat Cummins’ outstanding fitness has been an asset for the Australian team throughout the tour. His aim to play all six Tests on the tour remains on track, having been the only Australian fast bowler to feature in all four matches thus far. England, on the other hand, has faced uncertainties with Stuart Broad and Ollie Robinson, with the latter suffering from back spasms after the Headingley Test.

In conclusion, the Australian team faces an intriguing selection dilemma for the Old Trafford Test, with David Warner’s place coming under scrutiny. Mitchell Marsh’s impressive comeback and exceptional performance have made him a strong contender for inclusion. However, Warner’s contributions earlier in the series and his overall Test average since 2021 cannot be ignored. The team management, along with the return of Cameron Green and Josh Hazlewood, will evaluate the options diligently to form the best XI. The decision they make will significantly impact the team’s performance in their pursuit to retain the Ashes.

Nigar Sultana Expresses Disappointment in Experienced Players’ Missed Opportunities

Nigar Sultana Expresses Disappointment in Experienced Players’ Missed Opportunities

Nigar Sultana Expresses Disappointment in Experienced Players' Missed Opportunities

In the recent three-match T20I series opener between Bangladesh and India, the Bangladesh cricket team faced a disappointing defeat. The captain, Nigar Sultana, expressed her disappointment in the experienced players’ missed opportunities, emphasizing the team’s inability to capitalize on their promising starts. This article delves into the key factors that led to Bangladesh’s defeat and the areas where improvement is needed.

The Crucial Start and Missed Opportunities

Bangladesh started the match on a positive note, with their openers Shamima Sultana and Shathi Rani making valuable contributions of 17 and 22 runs, respectively. However, their inability to convert these starts into significant innings proved costly for the team. Even Sobhana Mostary, batting at one-down, showed promise with her knock of 23 runs but failed to carry on and build a substantial partnership.

In contrast, Indian batter Harmanpreet Kaur exhibited remarkable resilience and skill, scoring an unbeaten half-century to guide her team to victory. The stark difference between her performance and that of the Bangladesh top-order players highlighted the missed opportunities and lack of consistency among the home team’s batsmen.

Nigar Sultana’s Reflections on the Match

Following the defeat, Nigar Sultana shared her thoughts on the team’s performance. She acknowledged the players’ skill and potential, considering their experience representing the national team. However, she stressed the need for individual players to overcome their current bad patch and display a greater determination to carry their innings forward.

The Bangladesh captain also expressed her disappointment in the lack of intent displayed by some players. Playing for the national team requires experience and a high level of performance, and Sultana expected better from the more seasoned members of the side. She highlighted the negative impact of pressure on players, particularly when facing consecutive dot balls, and stressed the need to overcome these challenges with composure.

Identifying Areas for Improvement

According to Nigar Sultana, one of the key reasons behind Bangladesh’s inability to score big against India was her own runout. As the captain, she shoulders the responsibility of building and finishing the innings, and her dismissal had a significant impact on the team’s final score.

Sultana also identified the middle overs as a period where Bangladesh struggled, playing an excessive number of dot balls. The slow and low nature of the pitch, coupled with India’s proficient bowling attack, posed additional challenges for the batting side. Despite these factors, Sultana believed that Bangladesh fell short by 20 to 25 runs, emphasizing the need to convert dot balls into singles and rotate the strike effectively.

India’s Perspective and the Way Forward

Following their victory, Indian cricketer Deepti Sharma reflected on the match. She acknowledged the difficulties posed by the slow and low pitch but credited India’s experienced bowlers for their outstanding performance. Sharma highlighted the importance of executing plans in the middle overs and commended the team’s ability to adapt to the situation.

In conclusion, Bangladesh’s defeat in the T20I series opener against India was primarily attributed to the top-order’s inability to convert starts into big scores.
