Both the teams in today’s match started their campaign with defeats. But these two teams saw the opposite side of the coin when they played their second match. Both teams performed well despite losing the first match. But in this match, Los Angeles Knight Riders faced a big loss due to unprecedented batting failure against MI New York.

Chasing the target of 155 runs given by MI New York on Monday (May 17), Los Angeles Knight Riders were bowled out for 50 runs in just 13.5 overs. They’ve suffered their 2nd consecutive defeat by a huge margin of 105 runs. The Los Angeles Knight Riders are currently at the bottom of the standings. On the other hand, with this great win, MI New York has moved up to 2nd place in the points table.

Through this match, Los Angeles Knight Riders set the record for the lowest total in a Major League Cricket (MLC) tournament. On the other hand, MI New York has become the first team to win by more than 100 runs margin in MLC.

Earlier, MI New York was not comfortable after winning the toss and batting first. They lost three wickets, scoring 43 runs in 6 overs of power play. Then Nicholas Pooran went down to bat and tried to take control of the team. But he failed to increase the run rate. As a result, at the end of 9 overs, the team’s score stood at 59 runs for 4 wickets.

Captain Pollard also could not stay on the wicket for long. After scoring only 5 runs off 9 balls, he was bowled by Adam Zampa and returned to the dugout. After his departure, Tim David guided the team in the right direction. On the one hand, Pooran played firmly on the wicket, but on the other hand, David became devastated with the bat.

Pooran returned to the pavilion scoring 38 off 37 balls, with 1 four and 2 sixes. At one end, wickets were falling at regular intervals, but at the other end, David was playing aggressively. In the end, he left the field with an unbeaten 48 off 21 balls. He had an equal number of 4 fours and sixes in this stormy innings. Trent Boult remained unbeaten with 7 runs off 4 balls.

Adam Zampa, Ali Khan, and Corne Dry took the maximum number of 2 wickets each for Los Angeles Knight Riders. Besides, Lockie Ferguson took 1 wicket.

On the 3rd ball of the innings, Martin Guptill returned to the dressing room for a zero run. Then pacer Kagiso Rabada struck twice in the 3rd over. He sent Rilee Rossouw (2) off the second ball of the over and Nitish Kumar (0) off the fifth ball.

At the end of 3 overs, the team lost 3 wickets and their score stood at 2 runs. The Los Angeles Knight Riders could not handle this initial collapse. As a result, they lost quick wickets while trying to speed up the run rate again and again. As a result, they could not return to the fight of the match. No other batsman could touch double-digit scores for the team except Unmukt Chand. He was dismissed for 26 runs off 26 balls, with 2 fours and 1 six.

Shoriful Islam’s Stunning Display Drives Bangladesh to Victory

Shoriful Islam’s Stunning Display Drives Bangladesh to Victory

Shoriful Islam's Stunning Display Drives Bangladesh to Victory

Bangladesh witnessed an extraordinary performance by Shoriful Islam in the third ODI against Afghanistan, leading them to a resounding seven-wicket win. The match held in Chattogram showcased Shoriful’s remarkable talent as he achieved career-best figures of 4 for 21. This outstanding bowling effort not only secured a consolation victory for Bangladesh but also established Shoriful as a force to be reckoned with in international cricket.

Bangladesh’s Bowling Resurgence

After a disappointing performance in the previous game, where Bangladesh conceded a hefty total of 331 runs, the bowling unit displayed remarkable resilience and determination. Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam provided excellent support to Shoriful, each contributing two crucial wickets. However, it was Shakib Al Hasan’s outstanding bowling display that proved to be a game-changer. His impeccable spell of 1 for 13 from ten overs significantly restricted Afghanistan to a mere total of 126 runs, their lowest against Bangladesh.

Shakib Al Hasan’s Economy Masterclass

Shakib Al Hasan’s economy rate of 1.3 runs per over showcased his exceptional control and accuracy. It was a masterclass in disciplined bowling, wherein he consistently stifled the opposition batsmen. This outstanding performance marked the third instance in Bangladesh’s ODI history where they restricted their opponents to 13 runs or fewer. Remarkably, Shakib Al Hasan played a pivotal role in all three occasions, highlighting his immense value to the team.

Afghanistan’s Struggles against Accurate Bowling

Azmatullah Omarzai’s maiden ODI fifty was the only highlight for Afghanistan in an otherwise lackluster batting display. His knock of 56 off 71 balls demonstrated his resilience and determination. However, the rest of the Afghan batting lineup failed to match his tenacity and succumbed to Bangladesh’s accurate bowling.

The rot for Afghanistan began early in the innings when Ibrahim Zadran fell victim to a well-directed delivery from Shoriful Islam, edging it to the wicketkeeper. Rahmat Shah, who scored a century in the previous game, also fell prey to a similar delivery, offering an edge that was caught. His dismissal led to a disappointing duck, summing up his struggles throughout the series.

Taskin Ahmed Strikes at Crucial Moments

Taskin Ahmed showcased his prowess by dismissing the dangerous Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who had scored an impressive 145 in the second ODI. Gurbaz’s attempted aggressive shot resulted in a top-edge, skillfully caught by Mushfiqur Rahim with a fine leaping effort. Additionally, Taskin’s dismissal of Mohammad Nabi, trapping him lbw in the ninth over, played a pivotal role in crippling Afghanistan’s batting order. This marked only the third time in Bangladesh’s history that they had taken the first four wickets with 15 or fewer runs on the board.

Shoriful Islam’s Four-Wicket Haul

Shoriful Islam’s exceptional performance reached its pinnacle when he claimed his fourth wicket, dismissing debutant Abdul Rahman. Rahman mistimed his shot, resulting in a catch by Taijul Islam at fine leg. Notably, all three instances of Shoriful’s four-wicket hauls have occurred in the month of July, with his first against Zimbabwe in 2021, followed by West Indies in 2022, and now against Afghanistan in 2023. Such consistency highlights his ability to excel in high-pressure situations.

England's Manchester Test Squad Revealed

The England cricket team has recently announced their squad for the highly anticipated fourth Ashes Test against Australia, set to take place in Manchester. This critical match comes after England’s hard-fought victory in Leeds, where they managed to bounce back after being 2-0 down in the series. With the hopes of saving the series, the English team is all set to face their arch-rivals at Old Trafford starting from 19th July.

The Wicketkeeper Conundrum: Bairstow vs. Foakes

One of the most talked-about topics leading up to the selection was the wicket-keeper position. Despite calls for Ben Foakes to take over from Jonny Bairstow, the selectors have decided to retain Bairstow as the sole wicketkeeper in the squad. Bairstow did encounter a few lapses behind the stumps in the previous Tests, which sparked the debate. However, the team management has shown faith in Bairstow’s abilities and believes in his potential to contribute significantly to the team’s success.

Anderson’s Inclusion: The Veteran Pacer’s Role

James Anderson, England’s veteran pacer, was left out of the XI for the Headingley Test. However, his experience and skill have earned him a place in the squad for the upcoming match. The question remains whether England will opt to play Anderson in Manchester. His ability to swing the ball and trouble even the most accomplished batsmen makes him an invaluable asset. The decision to include Anderson in the playing XI will depend on various factors, including the pitch conditions and the team’s overall strategy.

Backup Batter: Dan Lawrence Steps In

England suffered a blow with Ollie Pope’s injury, leading to his absence from the squad. In light of this setback, the selectors have included Dan Lawrence as the only backup batter in the lineup. Although Lawrence hasn’t played a Test match since his appearance against the West Indies in March last year, his impressive domestic performances and talent make him a strong contender for a spot in the playing XI. The England team management will evaluate his form and readiness before making the final decision.

The Spin Factor: Moeen Ali’s Dominance

Moeen Ali, the lone spinner in the squad, is almost certain to secure a place in the playing XI. Ali’s prowess with both bat and ball makes him an invaluable asset to the team. His ability to spin the ball and deliver crucial breakthroughs has proven pivotal in previous matches. Moreover, Ali’s contributions with the bat add depth to the batting order, making him an all-round threat to the opposition.

The Pace Attack: A Battle for Spots

England boasts a formidable pace attack, with several talented bowlers competing for a place in the playing XI. Ollie Robinson, Mark Wood, Stuart Broad, and Chris Woakes are all part of the squad and will be vying for a spot in the team. However, they face fierce competition from the experienced James Anderson and the promising Josh Tongue. The selectors will have to carefully assess the pitch conditions and the opposition’s strengths to determine the best combination for the match.

Tahuhu and Bates Lead New Zealand to T20I Series Victory

Tahuhu and Bates Lead New Zealand to T20I Series Victory

New Zealand’s outstanding performance led by Lea Tahuhu’s exceptional four-wicket haul and Suzie Bates’ steady half-century resulted in an emphatic eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the second match of the T20I series held in Colombo on Monday. This victory not only sealed the series for New Zealand but also marked a remarkable comeback after a disappointing 2-1 loss in the ODI series. The exceptional display of skill and determination by the New Zealand team showcased their prowess in the shortest format of the game.

Bates and Bezuidenhout: A Promising Opening Stand

The foundation of New Zealand’s successful run chase was laid by the opening pair of Suzie Bates and Bernadine Bezuidenhout. The duo exhibited excellent coordination and displayed solid stroke play, contributing a vital 48 runs for the first wicket. While Bezuidenhout provided stability, Bates demonstrated her attacking prowess in the subsequent partnership with Amelia Kerr, amassing an impressive 59-run alliance for the second wicket. Bates, a seasoned campaigner, showcased her versatility by effectively using her feet against the spinners and employing innovative strokes such as the scoop and paddle.

Tahuhu’s Dominance and Sri Lanka’s Early Setback

The New Zealand victory owed much to the exceptional performance of Lea Tahuhu, who wreaked havoc in Sri Lanka’s batting lineup. In her opening over, Tahuhu struck twice, first dismissing Vishmi Gunaratne with a well-executed delivery that resulted in the batswoman chopping the ball onto her stumps. She then trapped Kavisha Dilhari leg-before-wicket with a brilliant inswinger, leaving Sri Lanka reeling early on. Tahuhu’s early strikes sent shockwaves through the Sri Lankan camp, creating significant pressure on the home team.

The Partnership that Revived Sri Lanka

Despite the early setbacks, Sri Lanka found hope in a crucial fourth-wicket partnership between Harshitha Samarawickrama and Hasini Perera. Samarawickrama displayed her class right from the beginning, showcasing an exquisite cover drive off her very first ball. Perera, on the other hand, anchored the innings by top-scoring with 33 runs. Their 57-run partnership provided Sri Lanka with a glimmer of hope, aiming to set a competitive target for New Zealand. However, the fall of both batswomen in quick succession dealt a severe blow to Sri Lanka’s aspirations of building momentum.

New Zealand’s Clinical Finish

Following the dismissals of Samarawickrama and Perera, New Zealand tightened their grip on the game. The experienced duo of Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine showed great composure and skill as they steered their team towards the target without any further hiccups. Kerr, displaying her maturity beyond her years, combined her natural stroke play with calculated shot selection to guide New Zealand to a comprehensive victory.

Sri Lanka’s Struggle to Defend a Modest Total

Sri Lanka’s batting lineup faced an uphill battle after being restricted to a modest total of 118. The early run-out of captain Chamari Athapaththu further compounded their woes. The team’s struggles were evident as they failed to establish substantial partnerships throughout the innings. Anushka Sanjeewani and Nilakshi de Silva tried to inject momentum into the Sri Lankan innings, scoring quick runs off a Leigh Kasperek over. However, their efforts fell short as the total proved insufficient against New Zealand’s dominant batting display.

Texas Super Kings vs MI New York Team Preview

Texas Super Kings

Texas Super Kings trounced Los Angeles Knight Riders by 69 runs in the tournament’s opening game, giving them the best possible start to their season. In spite of a late blitz by Dwayne Bravo (76* off 39 balls), they fell by 6 runs in their following encounter against the Washington Freedom.

The Super Kings have a consistent lineup and are adequately stocked. They have two reliable and effective openers who can play the extended innings in Faf du Plessis and Devon Conway. While Mitchell Santner and Dwayne Bravo are capable finishers, David Miller offers consistency in the middle of the order.

MI New York

After losing their opening game in a high-scoring contest, MI New York made their Major League Cricket debut by crushing Los Angeles Knight Riders by 105 runs. When MI batted first on a two-paced surface, they put up a score of 155-8 before bowling out the Knight Riders for just 50.

MI’s top order has so far fallen short, and their middle and lower orders have saved them. They have suffered from the failures of opener Dewald Brevis, but this slow pitch could not make things any easier for the young batter anytime soon.

Major League Cricket 2023 Cricket Prediction | Match 7: Texas Super Kings vs MI New York  Grand-Prairie-Stadium

Grand Prairie Stadium has shown to be a favorable pitch for batting first. The side batting first has prevailed in five of the six games that have been played here. The team that wins the coin toss almost always chooses to bat first.

The game will take place in hot, dry weather in Dallas.

As the competition has gone on, Grand Prairie Stadium’s pitch has started to feel a little two-paced. It was a batting beauty at first, but as it has gotten slower, it is getting more difficult to bat on. Bowlers who are proficient with slower balls and cutters will particularly appreciate playing on this surface.
