Seattle Orcas cruised to their third consecutive win in their third match of the tournament courtesy of Wayne Parnell’s brilliant bowling performance. He was selected as the player of the match as he snapped the highest number of 5 wickets conceding only 20 runs in 4 overs.
Chasing an easy target of 128 runs set by the Texas Super Kings today at Church Street Park in Morrisville, Seattle Orcas reached the port of victory with the loss of just 2 wickets and 24 balls in hand.
With that, they secured their third consecutive victory and climbed to the top of the points table. On the other hand, with two wins and two losses in 4 matches, the Texas Super Kings are now in the 2nd position in the points table.
Chasing the target of 128 runs, Seattle Orcas’ two openers Quinton de Kock and Nauman Anwar gave the team a great start. These two put up a partnership of 67 runs in 10.4 overs. While de Kock batted devastatingly, Nauman accompanied him patiently from the other side of the wicket.
Nauman scored 19 runs off 32 balls with just 1 four. On the other hand, de Kock played an extraordinary innings of 53 runs from 36 balls hitting an equal number of 3 fours and sixes. After their departure, the Seattle Orcas did not lose any wickets. Heinrich Klaasen and Dasun Shanaka made a 40-run partnership for the 3rd wicket.
It was this duo that finally brought the team to the brink of victory. Klaasen left the field after playing an unbeaten stormy innings of 42 runs off 21 balls. Where there were 4 fours and 3 sixes. On the other hand, Shanaka remained unbeaten with 10 runs off 7 balls. Mitchell Santner and Mohammad Mohsin got 1 wicket each for the Texas Super Kings.
Earlier, losing the toss and batting first, the Texas Super Kings batsmen were under pressure from the start. Opener Devon Conway returned to the dressing room scoring a golden duck on the first ball of the innings. Shortly after him, captain Faf du Plessis (13 runs from 10 balls) returned to the pavilion after falling victim to Andrew Tye in the 5th over of the innings.
After that, there was Parnell’s firestorm bowling throughout the innings, which did not give the opponent a chance to come back into the match. Cody Chetty was Parnell’s first victim in the 6th over. He scored 22 runs off 18 balls. Then in the 8th over, Parnell hit the camp of Texas Super Kings twice.
In-form batsman David Miller (8) became his 2nd victim on the first ball of that over and took the wicket of Milind Kumar (1) on the 4th ball. Texas Super Kings lost 6 wickets to score 48 runs at the end of 9 overs due to Parnell’s great spell.
However, all-rounders Dwayne Bravo and Daniel Sams continued to try to collect a fighting capital for the team. Sams got departed off Tye after scoring 26 runs off 19 balls. But in the end, the Texas Super Kings were able to score 127 runs due to Bravo’s innings of 39 runs off 39 balls.
Apart from Parnell’s 5 wickets, Andrew Tye picked up 2 wickets and Imad Wasim and Cameron Gannon took 1 wicket each for the winning side.
