Los Angeles Knight Riders registered an impressive two-wicket victory over Seattle Orcas in the 12th match of Major Cricket League (MCL) 2023. They glimpsed their first win in the tournament after losing four matches in a row. On the other hand, Seattle Orcas suffered their first defeat in the tournament after winning three matches in a row.

After losing the toss and getting to bat first, Seattle Orcas collected 170 runs losing 6 wickets after the scheduled 20 overs. In reply, the Los Angeles Knight Riders reached the port of victory with five balls remaining after losing eight wickets.

However, Proteas’ batter Rilee Rossouw played a key role in the team’s victory. They won the game with two wickets in hand thanks to his match-winning innings of 78 not out from 38 balls. He was also selected as the player of the match for this extraordinary innings.

Earlier, after winning the toss, the bowlers of Los Angeles Knight Riders did not get off to a good start. Seattle Orcas’ batters scored 51 runs for the loss of two wickets in 6 overs of the power play. Opener Quinton de Kock scored 10 and Nauman Anwar returned to the dressing room with 32 runs.

In the 9th over, one of their batters, Heinrich Klaasen departed for the team’s 81 runs. He scored 25 runs off 13 balls, with 3 fours and 1 six. After that, the team lost wickets at one end at regular intervals but Shehan Jayasuriya held into the wickets at the other end. At the end of 15 overs, the team’s score stood at 120 runs for 5 wickets.

But for Jayasuriya, they managed to score 50 runs by losing only 1 wicket in the last 5 overs. He finally left the field after playing an unbeaten 60 off 45 balls. There were 7 fours and 1 six in his innings. Imad Wasim scored 19 runs off 15 balls.

Chasing the challenging target of 171 runs, the batsmen of Los Angeles Knight Riders stumbled at the beginning. In the 2nd over of the innings, pacer Cameron Gannon struck twice in the camp of the Los Angeles Knight Riders. He sent wicketkeeper batsmen Jaskaran Malhotra (2) and Gajanand Singh (3) back to the pavilion one by one.

Opener Jason Roy (2) was bowled on the first ball of the 3rd over. As a result, Los Angeles Knight Riders lost three wickets to score just 8 runs. Then Saif Badar (10) got out for the team’s 22 runs and Los Angeles Knight Riders were knocked out of the match.

San Francisco Unicorns vs Texas Super Kings Team Preview

San Francisco Unicorns

Washington Freedom defeated San Francisco Unicorns by 30 runs in their most recent match, although they have already had two great games in this league.

Although the San Francisco Unicorns were defeated in their most recent game on Saturday, it appears that team management understands who their strongest team is and has been very consistent in their selection. We anticipate that the same starting lineup will be used for this match.

Texas Super Kings

In their most recent game, the Texas Super Kings had four of their top six batters record single-figure runs en route to a loss. They do, however, possess a ton of quality, and we anticipate that in this match, they will resume their winning ways.

A few Texas Super Kings players performed poorly in the same match against the Seattle Orcas, resulting in the team’s defeat. However, many of those same players are world-class athletes, so we anticipate seeing many of the same names in this game.

Cricket Highlights, 19 July: England vs Australia (4th Test)

England vs Australia (4th Test)

On July 19, the fourth game of the five-game Ashes series took place between England and Australia. In such a match, rain poured water on England’s dream of victory, just like pouring ashes on rice. Two days of nonstop pouring rain have destroyed England’s hopes of winning the Ashes. As a result, in the rainy Manchester Test, both England and Australia were obliged to accept a lifeless draw. On the other side, Zak Crawley‘s outstanding hitting earned him the distinction of man of the match.

There is therefore no chance that Australia will drop the Ashes series this year. Even if the series ends in a tie, Australia will continue to hold the Ashes title as a defending champion.

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, on the second day of the Manchester Test, England dismissed Australia for 317 in the first innings. In 90.2 overs, they were all dismissed. Despite the innings being established, almost all of the Australian batters failed to increase it. 8 of the 11 were out in double figures.

Only Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne have achieved a half-century among them. Both were eliminated with exactly 51 runs. Additionally, the dressing room was visited by Travis Head (48) and Steven Smith (42) who were approaching the age of fifty. In the end, Mitchell Starc made an undefeated 36.

Chris Woakes, an English bowler, claimed five wickets at a cost of 62 runs. Stuart Broad took two wickets.

Then, in the first innings, England amassed a significant advantage of 275 runs lead. In 107.4 overs of buzzball cricket, the hosts were dismissed for 592 runs at an average of almost five and a half. Jonny Bairstow brought the squad to a strong position, but he still feels regret. For just one run, he was unable to complete the century. Bairstow scored 99 runs off 81 balls with 10 fours and 4 sixes before walking off the field undefeated.

Additionally, Brook got 61 runs off 100 balls while Stokes scored 51 points off 74 balls.

But alas for the starting player Zak Crawley too. He was only 11 runs short of a double century when he was caught. Cameron Green bowled Zak Crawley after he had made 189 from 182 balls. He hit 21 boundaries and 3 sixes. In addition, Moeen Ali scored 54 runs off 82 balls with the help of 7 fours, and Joe Root was dismissed after scoring 84 runs off 95 balls.

Jos Hazlewood, an Australian pacer, claimed five wickets. Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green, the other two pacers, each claimed two wickets.

The match still had two days to go. Australia scored 113 runs in the second innings on the third day despite losing 4 wickets in the interim. To surpass the 275 runs that England has given them as a lead, they still had 162 more to go. Then, the fifth day of the Manchester Test was exhilarating thanks to the fourth day’s rain and Marnus Labuschagne’s century.

In their second innings, the Australians had 214 runs for 5 wickets by the close of the fourth day. The squad of Pat Cummins still needs 61 runs to avoid losing by innings. However, given the fourth day’s rain, if something similar occurs on the last day, England’s triumph may elude them.

Alas, that is precisely what took place. The fifth day included no game. They were unable to enter the field because of the rain. They sat around aimlessly in the dressing room on the fifth day. As a result, England’s victory ended in a tie.

Women's ODI Rankings Crown New No.1 Batter and All-Rounder

In the ever-evolving landscape of women’s cricket, the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s Player Rankings for ODIs and T20Is witness significant changes in the latest update. This week’s rankings have brought forth a new leader in the batting department, as well as a dominant all-rounder reclaiming her position at the top.

Beth Mooney: Australia’s Resilient Batter

Beth Mooney, the talented batter from Australia, has once again ascended to the pinnacle of the MRF Tyres ICC Women’s ODI Batters Rankings. After a brief interlude, Mooney’s exceptional performances in the first two ODIs against England played a pivotal role in her reclaiming the coveted top spot.

During Australia’s victorious Ashes campaign, Mooney showcased her immense skill and determination. She notched up a remarkable unbeaten score of 81* in the first ODI and followed it up with a composed 33 in the second match of the series. These stellar contributions not only solidified Australia’s triumph but also propelled Mooney back to the summit of the rankings.

Nat Sciver-Brunt: England’s Rising Star

England’s Nat Sciver-Brunt emerged as a formidable force, nearly snatching victory from Australia’s grasp in the second ODI with a breathtaking knock of 111* off just 99 deliveries. Despite falling short in securing a win for her team, Sciver-Brunt’s exceptional performance catapulted her to the No.2 spot in the rankings, accompanied by a career-best rating of 763.

It is worth noting that Sciver-Brunt’s impact extends beyond her batting prowess. Her contributions with the ball have been invaluable, particularly in England’s victory during the first ODI in Bristol, where she claimed two wickets. These exceptional all-round abilities have propelled her to the summit of the all-rounders’ rankings in ODIs, attaining a career-best rating of 402.

Heather Knight: England’s Finisher Extraordinaire

Another prominent player in England’s lineup, Heather Knight, showcased her mettle as a finisher during the first ODI against Australia. Batting alongside the lower order, Knight skillfully guided her team to victory with an unbeaten 75. Her crucial innings has earned her a well-deserved four-place surge in the batters’ rankings, where she now shares the No.14 spot with New Zealand’s Sophie Devine.

Ash Gardner: Australia’s Dynamic All-Rounder

The indomitable Ash Gardner, honored as the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for June 2023, continued her stellar performances in both batting and bowling. Gardner’s consistent contributions with the bat and ball have elevated her to new heights in the rankings. With a combined tally of 54 runs and three wickets in each of the first two ODIs against England, Gardner now occupies the No.8 position among bowlers, amassing a career-best rating of 631. Furthermore, her all-round excellence has propelled her to the No.5 spot in the all-rounders’ rankings, boasting a formidable rating of 330.

Bangladesh’s Rising Stars

In the wake of Bangladesh’s momentous victory over India in the first ODI, several Bangladeshi players have seen a surge in their rankings. Nigar Sultana, the captain of the team, has ascended four spots to secure the No.31 position in the ODI batters’ rankings. Her commendable performance, including a crucial top-score of 39, played a vital role in Bangladesh’s triumph.

In conclusion, the latest MRF Tyres ICC Women’s Player Rankings for ODIs and T20Is have witnessed remarkable shifts and exceptional performances by players from various nations. Beth Mooney’s resurgence to the top of the batting rankings, Nat Sciver-Brunt’s rise as an all-rounder, and the outstanding contributions from players like Heather Knight, Ash Gardnera have added an enthralling dimension to women’s cricket.

Afghanistan Coach and Player Face Consequences for Code of Conduct Breach

Afghanistan Coach and Player Face Consequences for Code of Conduct Breach

Afghanistan Coach and Player Face Consequences for Code of Conduct Breach

Afghanistan’s head coach, Jonathan Trott, and player, Azmatullah Omarzai, recently encountered consequences due to their actions during the second T20I match against Bangladesh. These specific incidents violated the Code of Conduct regulations, resulting in financial penalties and demerit points for both Trott and Omarzai. Such occurrences emphasize the significance of discipline and upholding the integrity of the game.

The Rain-Interrupted Match and Trott’s Expression of Displeasure

During the second T20I held in Sylhet, Afghanistan was batting first when rain interrupted the game. The lengthy rain break caused a delay, leading to a reduction in the match’s duration to 17 overs. It was during this break that Jonathan Trott displayed his displeasure, expressing his frustration to the umpire during an inspection, upon being informed about a further delay in resuming the match.

Omarzai’s Code of Conduct Breach and Its Consequences

Azmatullah Omarzai, a promising Afghan cricketer, faced disciplinary action after violating Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This particular article focuses on regulating the use of language, actions, or gestures that could demean or provoke an aggressive response from a batsman upon their dismissal in an international match. Omarzai’s breach of conduct unfolded during the 15th over of the chase when he delivered a close send-off to Bangladesh’s batsman, Towhid Hridoy, subsequent to dismissing him.

Penalties Imposed and Acceptance by Trott and Omarzai

As a result of their Code of Conduct breaches, both Jonathan Trott and Azmatullah Omarzai were fined 15 percent of their match fees. Additionally, they each received one demerit point, constituting their first offense within a 24-month period. It is worth noting that both Trott and Omarzai acknowledged the penalties issued by Match Referee Neeyamur Rashid and accepted them without the need for a formal hearing.

Bangladesh’s Victory and Redemption in the T20I Leg of the Tour

Despite the disciplinary incidents involving Afghanistan’s coach and player, Bangladesh managed to emerge victorious in the match. Chasing a target of 117, the Tigers secured a comfortable win with six wickets and five balls to spare. This triumph allowed the Bangladeshi team to put aside the disappointment of losing the ODI series 2-1, as they swept the T20I leg of the tour with a convincing 2-0 victory.

Importance of Adhering to the Code of Conduct in International Cricket

The recent incidents involving Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott and player Azmatullah Omarzai serve as a reminder of the importance of adhering to the Code of Conduct in international cricket. Disciplinary breaches can lead to financial penalties, demerit points, and potential harm to the team’s reputation. It is crucial for all players and staff to maintain professionalism, sportsmanship, and respect for the game, their opponents, and the officials.

The incidents involving Jonathan Trott and Azmatullah Omarzai highlight the need for continuous education and reinforcement of the Code of Conduct among players and team officials. Cricket boards and associations play a vital role in organizing workshops, seminars, and training programs that emphasize the values and expectations outlined in the Code of Conduct.

Let us delve into the thrilling details of this historic victory.

A Record-Breaking Season

Somerset embarked on an extraordinary journey in the T20 Blast Championship, amassing an impressive record of 14 victories out of 16 matches leading up to the final clash against Essex. The team’s remarkable consistency throughout the season set the stage for an enthralling showdown at Edgbaston. However, with the weight of seven previous failures in T20 finals looming over them, Somerset faced the daunting task of overcoming their past setbacks and emerging victorious.

A Scintillating Battle

The atmosphere was electric as Somerset won the toss and chose to bat first, replicating their approach from the semifinals. Sean Dickson played a pivotal role in steadying the ship, crafting a well-earned half-century amidst the mounting pressure. Somerset’s batting lineup fought tooth and nail, scrapping their way to a respectable total of 145 runs from their allotted 20 overs. The Essex bowlers, however, were not to be taken lightly and posed a formidable challenge.

Matt Henry’s Heroics

As the Essex innings began, Somerset’s hopes rested on their bowlers to defend the target and clinch the championship. Matt Henry rose to the occasion, delivering a spellbinding performance that dismantled the Essex batting order. With remarkable figures of 3 for 18, Henry tore through the opposition’s top order, instilling a sense of dominance in the Somerset camp. He returned later in the innings to extinguish Daniel Sams’ valiant attempts to single-handedly secure victory for Essex, courtesy of an acrobatic one-handed catch by Tom Kohler-Cadmore. Henry’s heroics not only secured vital wickets but also ensured that Somerset equaled the record for the lowest score successfully defended in a T20 Blast final, adding to the magnitude of their achievement.

A Masterstroke by Dickson

Sean Dickson’s contribution throughout the tournament was nothing short of exceptional. Displaying a blend of composure and aggression, he consistently delivered vital performances when the team needed them the most. Dickson’s knock of 30 off 22 balls against Surrey and his composed innings in the final were instrumental in Somerset’s success. He meticulously constructed his innings, initially rotating the strike before finding the boundaries when the opportunity arose. His ability to read the game and adapt to the situation played a crucial role in Somerset’s victory.

A Hard-Fought Conclusion

As the Somerset innings drew to a close, the pressure mounted, and wickets tumbled. Despite Dickson’s valiant efforts, the team’s total reached a modest 145 runs. However, with runs on the board, Somerset’s fearsome bowling attack was more than ready to take on the challenge. Ish Sodhi, with figures of 3 for 22, played a pivotal role in dismantling the Essex batting lineup alongside the ever-reliable Matt Henry. The final wicket fell with 29 runs still required, and Somerset emerged triumphant, their dream of lifting the T20 Blast Championship finally realized.
