West Indies vs India (2nd Test)

Storms and rains were predicted in advance, and it happened. Not a single ball was bowled on the final day of the India-West Indies second Test. This rain has been a blessing for the West Indies. Rain saved Kraigg Brathwaite’s team after losing by an innings in the first Test.

Although West Indies performed better than Dominica in this test. India needed 8 wickets and West Indies needed 289 runs to win on the final day of the second Test at Queen’s Park Oval. That is difficult for any team to do on the final day of a Test and even more difficult for an off-form side like the West Indies.

India won the series 1-0 with a win in Dominica Test. This is India’s fifth consecutive Test series win on West Indies soil. However, regret may have remained for India even after winning the series. Because the series is under the World Test Championship, it is natural for them to regret losing points as they had to share them as a result of the draw.

West Indies captain Braithwaite won the toss and decided to bowl first on a dry wicket in Port of Spain. Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal started the second Test as they did in the first Test against the Caribbeans. The two made an impeccable partnership of 139 runs.

Jaiswal was dismissed by Jason Holder at the start of the second session. He scored 57 runs off 74 balls. Rohit was slowly moving towards the century. But he also got out for 80 runs. Shubman Gill again failed to score well coming to bat at number three. He got out for 10 runs after punching Roach’s ball. Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed for 8 runs just before the tea break. As a result, India lost four wickets for just 42 runs.

After that, the responsibility of taking the team’s run forward fell on the shoulders of Virat Kohli. He took time in the beginning. His first run came off the 22nd ball. He was playing the ball without any haste. Ravindra Jadeja accompanied him nicely. Two batters tried to make a big pair. In the third session, the Caribbean bowlers bowled a bit more randomly. Kohli and Jadeja used it playing brilliantly.

As a result, Kohli scored a century to play the 500th international match of his career. That was the 29th century of his Test career. Jadeja returned to the dugout with 61 off 152 balls. On the other hand, Kohli scored 121 runs off 206 balls with the help of 11 boundaries. In the end, visiting India piled up a big score of 438 runs courtesy of Ishan Kishan’s 25 and Ashwin’s 56 runs.

Kemar Roach and Jomel Warrican took the maximum number of 3 wickets each for the hosts West Indies. Besides, Jason Holder picked up 2 wickets and Shannon Gabriel got 1 wicket.

In response, the host West Indies were bowled out for 255 runs. Where pacer Mohammed Siraj played a key role for the visiting team. The Caribbeans could not increase the score due to his fifer. Captain Brathwaite scored 75 runs for the team. Apart from this, Alick Athanaze 37, Tagenarine Chanderpaul 33, and Kirk McKenzie returned with 32 runs.

Apart from Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja and Mukesh Kumar got 2 wickets each for the Indian team and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 1 wicket.

Taking a lead of 183 runs, India declared their second innings scoring 181 runs. The target for victory in front of the Caribbean stood at 365 runs as a result of that. Jaiswal scored 38 runs. Rohit scored 57 runs off 44 balls. Shubman remained unbeaten on 29 runs off 37 balls. Ishan Kishan stood unbeaten with 52 runs off 34 balls.

In the late afternoon of the fourth day, the West Indies lost 2 wickets to bat for the target of 365 runs. Brathwaite was out for 28 and McKenzie was out for zero runs. Chanderpaul was batting with 24 runs and Jermaine Blackwood scored 20 runs. On the fifth day, both teams appeared on the field, but the game could not be started due to rain.

Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj was named player of the match as he snapped 5 wickets for 60 runs in the first innings of the second test. And Ravichandran Ashwin was selected as player of the series scalping 15 wickets in the series.

San Francisco Unicorns vs Texas Super Kings (Match 14) – Highlights

Texas Super Kings have pulled off an incredible 3-wicket victory over San Francisco Unicorns in the 14th match of Major Cricket League (MCL) 2023. As a result of this victory, they’ve confirmed the qualifiers as the third team of the tournament with three wins playing five matches. On the other hand, San Francisco Unicorns are still in contention for the qualifiers after winning two matches.

After winning the toss and batting first, the San Francisco Unicorns collected 171 runs after losing 8 wickets at the end of the scheduled 20 overs. In reply, the Texas Super Kings reached the port of victory with five balls remaining after losing 7 wickets.

However, all-rounder Daniel Sams played a key role in the team’s victory. He first took two wickets with the ball and then with the bat, he played a devastating innings of 42 runs from 18 balls to win the game for Texas Super Kings with three wickets in hand. Thanks to this great performance, he was selected as the player of the match.

Earlier, the bowlers of Texas Super Kings did not make a good start after losing the toss and fielding first. The batters of San Francisco Unicorns scored 52 runs after losing two wickets in 6 overs of power play. Opener Finn Allen scored 4 and Marcus Stoinis returned to the dressing room getting 13 runs.

In the 11th over, another opener Matthew Wade also departed for the team’s 85 runs. He scored 49 runs off 30 balls hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes. After that, Shadab Khan and Corey Anderson tried to take the helm of the team. But these two in-form batsmen failed to score runs in this match. Shadab scored 20 runs from 23 balls and Anderson was out for 14 runs from 15 balls.

Chaitanya Bishnoi and skipper Aaron Finch continued to try to get the team back on track as the San Francisco Unicorns were struggling at the loss of 5 wickets for 116 runs. Due to this, the team collected 55 runs in the last 28 balls. Finch scored 19 off 10 balls and Bishnoi returned to the pavilion with a blistering innings of 35 off 21 balls.

For Los Angeles Knight Riders, Gerald Coetzee took the highest number of 4 wickets with 31 runs in 4 overs. Besides, Daniel Sams and Mitchell Santner took 2 wickets each.

Chasing the challenging target of 172 runs, the batsmen of Texas Super Kings stumbled at the beginning. Captain Faf du Plessis returned to the dugout with zero runs on the 2nd ball of the innings. Then another batsman Cody Chetty (4) departed in the 2nd over. As a result, losing two wickets in the team’s 11 runs, the batters of Texas Super Kings fell into some danger.

From there, wicket-keeper batsmen Devon Conway and Milind Kumar kept trying to bring the team back into the match. Conway bounced back with an efficient innings of 30 off 27 balls, but Milind returned to the pavilion with a half-century to take the team to the brink of victory.

Earlier, the dismissals of David Miller (10) and Santner (7) left the team score at 92/5. At that time, it seemed that the Texas Super Kings would not be able to back in this match. But Sams turned the match when he came to the wicket. In the 6th wicket, Milind and Sams put on an impeccable partnership of 70 runs off 26 balls. Where Milind scored 52 runs in 42 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes.

On the other hand, Sams returned to the pavilion after playing a match-winning innings of 42 runs off 18 balls smashing 2 fours and 4 sixes. Haris Rauf and Shadab Khan took the maximum number of 2 wickets each while Carmi le Roux, Liam Plunkett, and Marcus Stoinis picked up 1 wicket each for the Unicorns.

MI New York vs Seattle Orcas Team Preview

MI New York

Since their past three games, MI New York has produced two significant victories, and they are eager to have the opportunity to defeat the team at the top of the standings to complete the group stage.

After losing to Texas Super Kings in Match 7, MI New York did not include Steven Taylor or Kagiso Rabada in their lineup. Rabada, however, has such a good T20 record across all locations that it would be a major shock if he weren’t re-invited for this match.

Seattle Orcas

The Seattle Orcas’ perfect winning streak was broken in their most recent game. However, they have some good T20 players, so they will be confident in their ability to turn things around in this match.

Prior to their matchup with the Los Angeles Knight Riders on Sunday, Wayne Parnell’s team continued to play with no changes after their victory against the Texas Super Kings. We do not anticipate any changes to their team, despite the fact that they have already lost their perfect record.

The game’s conditions won’t significantly alter from one inning to the next, but we forecast that both captains will prefer to field first.

We anticipate that the circumstances will be favorable for batting because the skies over Morrisville will be clear.

As the game has gone on, this pitch has a tendency to pick up speed, and we anticipate more of the same. A score of around 170 would be considered normal for the first inning.

Sinclair In, Reifer Out for West Indies in Trinidad Test

Sinclair In, Reifer Out for West Indies in Trinidad Test

Sinclair In, Reifer Out for West Indies in Trinidad Test

The West Indies cricket team has made a significant change in their squad for the second Test against India. Kevin Sinclair, the talented offspin-bowling allrounder, has received his first Test call-up, replacing Raymon Reifer, the batting allrounder, in the 13-member squad. This move comes after the West Indies suffered a crushing defeat in the first Test, and they are determined to bounce back in the upcoming match in Trinidad.

Kevin Sinclair: A Rising Star

Kevin Sinclair, a 23-year-old player from Guyana, brings a fresh perspective and immense potential to the West Indies team. With an impressive first-class record, Sinclair has proven his worth as an allrounder. In his 18 games, he has captured 54 wickets at an average of 23.98, boasting a remarkable best bowling figure of 6 for 33. Additionally, Sinclair has showcased his batting prowess, amassing 756 runs at 29.07, including six half-centuries.

Performance Highlights

Sinclair’s recent performances have further solidified his case for a Test call-up. In a thrilling three-match series against Bangladesh A earlier this year, Sinclair emerged as the leading wicket-taker, claiming an impressive tally of 13 wickets at an average of 25.69. His bowling skills were instrumental in West Indies A’s 1-0 victory. Moreover, Sinclair showcased his batting capabilities by contributing 149 runs at an impressive average of 49.66, with a best score of 60.

International Experience

Although relatively new to the international scene, Sinclair has already made his mark in both One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for the West Indies. With 11 ODI wickets and four T20I wickets to his name, Sinclair has demonstrated his ability to excel in different formats of the game. Notably, he recently participated in the ODI World Cup qualifier in Zimbabwe, where he played three matches and claimed two wickets. Despite the team’s unfortunate failure to advance to the main draw, Sinclair’s performance was commendable.

Squad Composition

In addition to Sinclair’s inclusion, the West Indies squad for the second Test remains largely unchanged. The fast-bowling department features the skilled trio of Kemar Roach, Alzarri Joseph, and Shannon Gabriel, along with the versatile Jason Holder. Rahkeem Cornwall, who overcame a chest infection that affected his participation in the first Test, has been retained in the squad, as has left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican.

Revisiting the Batting Order

With Raymon Reifer being replaced in the squad, adjustments will be made to the batting order. Reifer previously batted at No. 3, and his absence opens up opportunities for the other batsmen to move up one place each. It is likely that Kevin Sinclair will slot in below Jason Holder at number seven. However, there is a possibility of a Test debut for Kirk McKenzie, which would further enhance the team’s batting lineup.

The Upcoming Test and Historical Significance

The second Test between West Indies and India, scheduled to take place from July 20 to 24 in Port of Spain, holds special significance. This match will mark the 100th Test encounter between the two teams, harkening back to their first meeting in Delhi in 1948. Both teams will be eager to perform at their best and etch their names in the history books.

England XI Reinforced by the Comeback of a Big Name

England XI Reinforced by the Comeback of a Big Name

England XI Reinforced by the Comeback of a Big Name

In the world of cricket, England’s national team has always been a force to be reckoned with. With a rich history and a legacy of talented players, they have often found themselves in the spotlight. The fourth Test match against Australia at Old Trafford, Manchester is no exception. This time, England has reinforced their XI with the comeback of a big name – veteran cricketer Jimmy Anderson.

Anderson’s Return to the XI

After missing the third Test at Headingley, Jimmy Anderson has been reinstated in the England XI for the crucial fourth Test. Anderson’s performance in the first two Tests raised concerns, as he managed to secure only three wickets. Consequently, he was rested for the third Test at Leeds. However, the management has shown confidence in the 40-year-old fast bowler and decided to include him in the playing XI for the upcoming match.

The Remarkable Record at Old Trafford

One of the factors that played a significant role in Anderson’s selection is his excellent track record at the Old Trafford venue. Over the years, Anderson has showcased his exceptional skills and mastery of the pitch, amassing a remarkable tally of 37 wickets in just 10 Tests at this historic ground. His success here dates back to 2004, and his experience and knowledge of the conditions make him a valuable asset to the England team.

Moeen Ali at No.3

In addition to Anderson’s return, the England XI has confirmed a change in the batting order. Moeen Ali, the talented all-rounder, will now bat at the crucial No.3 position. This decision was made to optimize the team’s batting lineup and provide more flexibility to other players.

Ali’s recent performance at No.3 in the second innings at Leeds saw him score only 5 runs. However, the management believes that by moving him up the order, they can allow Harry Brook to bat at his preferred No.5 slot. Brook has showcased his skills with a crucial innings of 75 runs in the same position during the previous Test. This strategic change aims to maximize the team’s overall batting prowess and provide stability throughout the lineup.

The Series Standings and Importance of the Fourth Test

As the series currently stands, Australia leads 2-1, making the upcoming fourth Test even more critical for England. A victory for England would not only level the series but also provide them with a significant boost of confidence. It is a crucial moment for the team to showcase their determination, skill, and ability to adapt to the challenges posed by the Australian side.

The inclusion of Jimmy Anderson and the strategic batting order adjustment with Moeen Ali at No.3 are bold moves by the England management. They are determined to turn the tide in their favor and level the series against Australia. The Old Trafford venue, with its historical significance and Anderson’s exceptional record, sets the stage for a thrilling encounter between these two cricketing powerhouses.

In an incredible display of skill and determination, Sciver-Brunt combined to propel England to an imposing total of 285 runs. Sciver’s magnificent knock of 129, supported by Brunt’s valuable contribution, set the stage for a thrilling encounter.

Australia’s Uphill Battle

Chasing England’s challenging total, Australia faced a daunting task, requiring their second-highest run chase in the One Day International (ODI) format. Despite the rain interruptions and a revised target of 269 runs in 44 overs, Australia struggled to find their footing against England’s relentless bowling attack. Apart from Ellyse Perry’s resilient half-century and Ashleigh Gardner’s explosive cameo, Australia’s batting lineup faltered against England’s formidable challenge.

Sciver-Brunt’s Commanding Innings

Nat Sciver’s masterful innings was a testament to her exceptional skill and unwavering determination. She meticulously built her innings, neutralizing the threat of the Australian spinners and capitalizing on loose deliveries. Sciver’s elegant cover-drive brought up England’s 50, and she continued to dominate the Australian bowling attack. Her partnership with Heather Knight provided stability to the innings, with both players taking calculated risks and dispatching the ball to the boundaries.

Sciver-Brunt’s Heroic Century

Wyatt’s blistering knock of 43 off just 25 deliveries injected momentum into England’s innings, leaving the Australians gasping for respite. Their electrifying partnership bolstered England’s total and propelled them to a commanding position.

Australia’s Daunting Chase

Facing a challenging target, Australia required a strong start to mount a successful chase. However, Lauren Bell’s incisive bowling rattled Australia’s top order, dismissing key batsmen early on. Australia’s hopes were further dented as Kate Cross scalped vital wickets, leaving the visitors reeling at 120/5. Despite Ashleigh Gardner’s valiant effort, their batting lineup faltered in the face of England’s disciplined bowling and faltered well short of the target.

England’s Triumph and Ashes Redemption

England’s remarkable victory in the rain-affected game not only secured the series but also redeemed themselves in the Ashes contest. After a challenging start to the series, England displayed immense character and determination to bounce back and level the Ashes scoreline at 8-8. The resounding win over Australia highlighted England’s resurgence and their ability to perform under pressure.

Moeen Ali’s Mission to Conclude Test Career with Ashes Victory

Moeen Ali’s Mission to Conclude Test Career with Ashes Victory

Moeen Ali's Mission to Conclude Test Career with Ashes Victory

In the world of cricket, few players possess the skill, versatility, and determination that Moeen Ali brings to the table. Having recently celebrated his second IPL title with the Chennai Super Kings, Moeen’s focus has now shifted to the prestigious Ashes series, where he aims to make a significant impact as England’s lead spinner and No. 3 batter. This all-round role is a rarity in modern Ashes cricket, reminiscent of legendary players like ‘Young Jack’ Hearne, Frank Woolley, and Wilfred Rhodes.

An Unexpected Twist

Moeen Ali had initially set his sights on a much-needed break between the T20 Blast and the Hundred, looking forward to some well-deserved rest and relaxation. However, fate had different plans in mind for him. Unexpected circumstances arose, including Jack Leach’s back injury and Ollie Pope’s shoulder concern, which catapulted Moeen back into the spotlight. Contemplating the situation, he expressed, “Sometimes, things occur for a purpose. This opportunity is one I simply cannot pass up. I firmly believe in the power of fate and destiny.”

The Unfinished Farewell

Two years ago, Moeen Ali was on the verge of making his final Test appearance at Emirates Old Trafford. However, due to India’s abrupt withdrawal from the match moments before the first ball, his anticipated farewell never came to fruition. Fast forward to the present, and Moeen finds himself standing at The Oval, ready to bid adieu to Test cricket. With an Ashes victory within reach, he harbors the heartfelt desire to end his remarkable career on a triumphant note. Moeen Ali eloquently expresses his aspirations, stating, “Securing an Ashes victory and bringing my Test cricket journey to a remarkable conclusion would truly be an incredible feat.”

A Sacrifice for the Team

Moeen’s promotion to the No. 3 batting position at Headingley exemplifies his selflessness and commitment to the team’s success. Recognizing that Harry Brook was more comfortable at No. 5 and believing that Jonny Bairstow could make a greater impact shifting down the order, Moeen approached Brendon McCullum with his idea. His rationale was clear: by facing the first 10 overs and weathering the challenges posed by the new ball, he would set a solid foundation for the rest of the team.

Though Moeen’s individual contribution at Headingley amounted to only 5 runs off 15 balls before losing his wicket to Mitchell Starc, his promotion proved to be a qualified success. It allowed Brook to enter the field in the 20th over, rather than the 10th, and Brook’s subsequent 75-run innings played a pivotal role in England’s thrilling three-wicket victory. Moeen humbly acknowledged the situation, stating, “I know you want your best players up the order, but with Popey out of the side, it’s obviously short-term.”

Moeen Ali’s unexpected return to Test cricket and his promotion to the crucial No. 3 batting position in the Ashes series have added a fascinating twist to the narrative. His versatile skills as both a spinner and a batter, combined with his unwavering commitment to the team’s success, make him an invaluable asset for England. As Moeen embarks on his mission to conclude his Test career with an Ashes victory, cricket enthusiasts around the world eagerly await his performances and the impact he will undoubtedly have on the game.

LAKR’s Downfall Deepens with Third Consecutive Defeat

LAKR’s Downfall Deepens with Third Consecutive Defeat

LAKR's Downfall Deepens with Third Consecutive Defeat

The recent clash between the San Francisco Unicorns and the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) has once again highlighted the struggles of the Knight Riders in the ongoing MLC 2023 campaign. With their third consecutive defeat, the Knight Riders find themselves in a precarious position, desperately seeking a turnaround in fortunes. In this article, we will delve into the details of this match and analyze the factors that have contributed to LAKR’s downfall.

Unicorns’ Dominance with the Bat

The San Francisco Unicorns, after winning the toss, elected to bat first at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Their decision proved to be fruitful as they capitalized on the favorable conditions during the PowerPlay. Matthew Wade set the tone for the Unicorns’ innings with a blistering knock of 78 runs off just 41 balls. Wade’s aggressive approach was complemented by Marcus Stonis, who smashed 37 runs off 18 deliveries, and Corey Anderson, who contributed 39 runs off 20 balls.

The Unicorns displayed their batting prowess, amassing a formidable total of 212 runs, marking their second 200-plus score in the MLC 2023 season. The Knight Riders’ bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with legspinner Shadab Khan emerging as the pick of the bowlers, frustrating the LAKR batsmen with his parsimonious spell.

Knight Riders’ Challenging Chase

Chasing a target of 213, the Knight Riders got off to a promising start in the powerplay, thanks to an explosive innings by Jason Roy. Roy’s aggressive strokeplay injected momentum into the LAKR’s chase, smashing four sixes and an equal number of fours in his brief stay at the crease. However, once Roy departed after a valuable contribution, the Knight Riders’ chase faltered during the middle overs.

The Unicorns’ bowlers tightened their grip on the match, led by Corey Anderson and Shadab Khan. Anderson, the former New Zealand international, showcased his power-hitting abilities by launching a flurry of boundaries, including three sixes off Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. Russell, unfortunately, had to leave the field due to a suspected injury, hampering the Knight Riders’ bowling attack.

Despite a valiant effort by Nitish Kumar, who struck three consecutive fours off Anderson, LAKR struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Shadab Khan’s disciplined bowling, conceding only 15 runs in his final three overs, further dampened the Knight Riders’ hopes. Rilee Rossouw and Jaskaran Malhotra, known for their big-hitting capabilities, fell victim to Shadab’s spin wizardry, further denting LAKR’s chances.

The Improbable Task and Defeat

As the match reached its climax, the Knight Riders found themselves in a daunting position, needing an improbable 37 runs off the final over. While Andre Russell provided a glimmer of hope with two consecutive sixes off Marcus Stonis, it was too little, too late for the Knight Riders. Ultimately, LAKR fell well short of the target, succumbing to their third successive defeat in the MLC 2023 campaign.

The Unicorns’ victory showcased their dominance in both batting and bowling departments. Their batsmen unleashed a relentless assault on the LAKR bowlers, setting an imposing target. The bowlers, led by Shadab Khan, stifled the Knight Riders’ chase, leaving them in disarray.
