MI New York vs Texas Super Kings (Challenger) – Highlights

Today, MI New York secured a big six-wicket victory against Texas Super Kings in the Major Cricket League (MLC) 2023 Challenger match with 6 balls in hand. Along with that, they’ve confirmed their spot in the final as the second team of the tournament. Tomorrow (July 30th) MI New York and Seattle Archers will take each other in the final match of the tournament.

MI New York captain Nicholas Pooran decided to field first winning the Toss. Coming down to bat, Texas Super Kings ended up scoring 158 runs in the allotted 20 overs due to the excellent bowling of the MI New York bowlers. In reply, MI New York reached the port of victory with the loss of 4 wickets and 1 over in hand.

Kiwi pacer Trent Boult played a big role in this victory for the team. The batsmen of Texas Super Kings could not accelerate the run rate due to his impeccable spell. Boult took the maximum number of 4 wickets with 24 runs in 4 overs. Due to this, he was also selected as the player of the match.

Team captain and opener Faf du Plessis did not get off to a good start as they came down to bat first. Like the last match, he failed with the bat in this match as well. The Proteas batsman scored just 6 runs off 9 balls and returned to the dressing room in the 3rd over of the innings after falling victim to Boult. On the fourth ball of that over, Boult also took the wicket of new batsman Mitchell Santner (6).

After that, when Cody Chetty (14) departed for the team’s 34 runs, Texas Super Kings fell into some danger. At the end of 6 overs of the power play, their score stood at 40 runs for 3 wickets. From there, openers Devon Conway and Milind Kumar tried to get the team back on track. For the 4th wicket, these two put on a partnership of 77 runs off 60 balls.

With the help of this pair, the team did not lose wickets but could not increase the rate of runs due to the controlled bowling of the bowlers. But Texas Super Kings were slammed out of the match after losing two consecutive wickets in the 16th and 17th overs of the innings (within 6 balls). First, Milind departed after scoring 37 runs off 34 balls with 3 fours and 1 six. In the next over, Conway scored 38 off 35 balls and fell victim to Boult. His innings also were decorated with 3 fours and 1 six.

After their departure, none of the team’s batsmen could make double-digit scores except for David Miller. Miller scored 17 runs off 10 balls with the help of two sixes. Apart from Boult, Tim David got 2 wickets and Rashid Khan and Eshan Adil picked up 1 wicket each for MI New York.

MI New York’s batsmen got off to a good start chasing the challenging target of 159 runs. They picked up 45 runs after losing 2 wickets in 6 overs of power play. Where opener Shayan Jahangir alone played a stormy innings of 36 runs off 18 balls smashing 5 fours and 2 sixes. Skipper Pooran could not do much good. He returned to the dugout scoring 23 runs off 20 balls.

Dewald Brevis widely famed as “Baby AB” and all-rounder Tim David continued to lead the team to victory on the 4th wicket. MI New York came very close to victory with their 29-ball 50-run partnership. David scored 33 runs off 20 balls with 4 sixes. However, Brevis left the field after taking the team home.

Brevis played an unbeaten innings of 41 runs off 33 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes. And at the end, he was accompanied by David Wiese. He remained unbeaten with 19 runs off 11 balls. Calvin Savage, Rusty Theron, Daniel Sams, and Mohammad Mohsin took 1 wicket each for the Texas Super Kings.

West Indies vs India Team Preview

West Indies

Prior to the first ODI, West Indies was a significant underdog, and their batting was terrible. They did, though, demonstrate tenacity with the ball, and if they want to compete in this game, they will need plenty more of that.

Only Brandon King, Alick Athanaze, and Shai Hope received any credit with the bat in the first match of the series, and we expect the West Indies team management to stick with the same group of players for this encounter.

India

India took control of the first ODI early on and never let West Indies get back into the game. India would want to play this match with greater ruthlessness because there were some batting failures.

Although India was consistently on top in the opening ODI of the series, there were several aspects that did not go as planned, and skipper Rohit Sharma will be seeking more improvement. Mohammed Siraj left the squad ahead of the game on Thursday to rest a minor ailment.

Major League Cricket and Its Trailblazing Journey

Major League Cricket and Its Trailblazing Journey

Major League Cricket and Its Trailblazing Journey

In recent years, cricket has seen remarkable growth worldwide, captivating audiences with its thrilling contests and engaging gameplay. One of the most ambitious attempts to establish professional cricket in the United States is set to begin with the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC). Backed by four franchises from the prestigious Indian Premier League (IPL), including the highly successful Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, MLC enters the American market with financial muscle, unparalleled expertise, and the blessings of USA Cricket and the International Cricket Council (ICC). Today, we delve into the journey of Major League Cricket, the players, the prospects, and the potential impact on cricket in the USA.

The Beginning of a Cricket Revolution

Cricket has a rich history in the United States, dating back to the first-ever international game played between the USA and Canada in New York in 1844. Despite its presence at a recreational level, cricket faced challenges in gaining widespread popularity due to the nation’s deep-rooted love for baseball. However, MLC aims to change the game by introducing the shortest and most explosive format of cricket, Twenty20, which has already proven to be a hit with fans worldwide.

The Backing of Cricket Powerhouses

MLC’s alliance with IPL franchises has been a game-changer, ensuring strong financial support and access to world-class cricketing knowledge. With the likes of England’s Jason Roy, Australia’s Aaron Finch, South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada, and West Indies’ Sunil Narine among the foreign players drafted by the six teams, MLC boasts an impressive roster capable of captivating audiences with their extraordinary skills and talent.

A Purpose-Built Venue for the Opener

The inaugural match of MLC will be played at the Grand Prairie Stadium in North Texas, a former baseball park transformed into a state-of-the-art cricket-specific venue. This landmark event will witness the clash between the Texas Super Kings and the Los Angeles Knight Riders. It symbolizes the dawn of a new era for cricket in the USA and showcases the commitment of MLC to revolutionize the sport in the country.

The Path to Long-Term Sustainability

MLC’s commitment goes beyond establishing a professional league. They have taken a significant step by creating Minor League Cricket, a competition featuring 26 teams, initiated in 2021, with a core focus on developing local players. MLC’s objective is to cultivate a strong talent pool for the USA national team, ensuring their long-term success and competitiveness on the global stage. This emphasis on nurturing homegrown talent will play a pivotal role in securing the future of cricket in the country.

A Vision for Growth and Acceptance

While MLC anticipates significant support from fans with cricket-loving backgrounds, the league also seeks to win over the broader American public. The objective is to make cricket a household name, igniting enthusiasm and curiosity among a diverse audience. Tournament director Justin Geale expresses confidence in the league’s potential to capture hearts and minds, saying, “The goal is to grow the game of cricket and expose the sport in the USA.”

One of the factors that could work in MLC’s favor is the preference for Twenty20 cricket in the American sports landscape. T20 matches offer an action-packed spectacle, with intense rivalries, strategic gameplay, and power-packed performances. These attributes align well with the American sporting psyche, where athleticism and entertainment converge. As cricket becomes more entertaining, it is likely to resonate with American audiences, drawing in new fans and expanding the sport’s footprint in the country.
