Colombo Strikers vs Galle Titans (Match 20) – Highlights

The Galle Titans secured their place in the qualifier round of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023 by defeating Colombo Strikers by a massive margin of 8 wickets on Tuesday (August 15). Shakib Al Hasan and Lasith Croospulle helped the team to reach the desired target of 75 runs in just 8.3 overs. On the other hand, Chamika Karunaratne’s Colombo Strikers were knocked out of the tournament with a bad loss.

Shakib remained unbeaten with 17 runs off 15 balls with the help of 2 boundaries. Croospulle played brilliant unbeaten innings of 42 off 25 balls, he scored 4 fours and 3 sixes. The unbeaten pair of these two slashed 46 runs. Earlier, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who came down in the opening, got out after playing an innings of 6 runs from 7 balls.

Litton Das, who played in the LPL for the first time, could not do well after coming to the crease. He was caught at deep cover while scoring 1 run off 4 balls. Iftikhar Ahmed and Jeffrey Vandersay took 1 wicket each for Colombo Strikers. Shoriful Islam, who got a chance in the XI of Colombo Strikers for the first time in the whole season, bowled 1 over and conceded 7 runs but remained wicketless.

Earlier, after losing the toss and batting first, Colombo Strikers could not put up any fight with the bat against the fierce bowling of Tabriz Shamsi, Shakib Al Hasan, and Seekkuge Prasanna. They were bowled out for just 74 runs playing 15.4 overs.

From the beginning of the day, the bowlers of Galle Titans pressed Colombo Strikers. Lahiru Kumara hit a double blow first. Colombo Strikers’ two openers Pathum Nissanka (2) and Babar Azam (6) returned to the dugout, misreading his pace and swing. Then Shamsi came as a trump card and Shakib joined him in the bowling attack. At one end, the Proteas leg spinner continued to crush the Colombo Strikers’ batters with spin and googly.

Despite not getting a wicket at the other end, Shakib slowed down the pace of runs with controlled bowling. Shamsi took the wickets of Lahiru Udara, Nipun Dhananjaya, Nuwanidu Fernando, and Mohammad Nawaz one by one. Udara scored 14 from 16 balls, Nipun made 13 from 9 balls, Nuwanidu got 14 from 11 balls and Nawaz managed to collect just 11 from 15 balls.

Then Prasanna joined the wicket festival. Karunaratne, Shoriful, and Vandersay were cornered by the swing of the Lankan leg-spinner. In the end, Shakib ended the innings of the Colombo Strikers by taking the wicket of Iftikhar Ahmed.

Tabraiz Shamsi scalped the highest number of 4 wickets at the cost of 20 runs for Galle Titans. He was also selected as the player of the match. Besides, Seekkuge Prasanna picked up three wickets conceding just 14 runs. On the other hand, Shakib was quite frugal in bowling. This Tiger all-rounder picked up 1 wicket at the cost of 8 runs at an economy rate of just 2.18 in 3.4 overs.

Galle Titans will face Dambulla Aura in the first match of the day tomorrow in Qualifier 1. On the other hand, B-Love Kandy will take on the defending champions Jaffna Kings in the 2nd match of the day’s eliminator.

Because it will be difficult to score runs on this wicket, we anticipate the team winning the toss will decide without hesitation to bowl first.

On August 17, there would be cloud cover over St. Lucia, which would be helpful for the fast bowlers.

Because of the flat wicket at this location, batsmen can easily score on the front foot. Large scores have been recorded here, thus the team batting first would need to get 170 runs to feel secure.

Unveiling Beaumont's Brilliance: The Century That Catapulted Her to The Hundred Women's Top Spot

In the thrilling world of cricket, where legends are made and records are broken, one name has recently shone brighter than the rest – Tammy Beaumont. The Welsh Fire’s right-handed batter has not only claimed the top spot in the run-scorers’ list after the 20th match but has also etched her name in the annals of history with a stunning display of skill and determination. This article delves deep into the spectacular journey of Tammy Beaumont, analyzing her remarkable achievements, her incredible stats, and the indomitable spirit that has propelled her to the forefront of The Hundred Women‘s competition.

Tammy Beaumont’s Triumph: A Glimpse into the Numbers

Tammy Beaumont’s batting prowess has been nothing short of extraordinary in the current season. The numbers speak for themselves – 213 runs amassed over 5 innings, at an impressive average of 42.60. The pinnacle of her performance was the awe-inspiring knock of 118 runs off 61 balls, a score that not only showcased her sheer talent but also steered her team, the Welsh Fire, to a record-breaking total of 181 for 3 in the women’s competition. This feat surpassed the previous record set by Will Jacks’ 108 for the Oval Invincibles last summer, marking a watershed moment in women’s cricket.

A Century Amidst The Hundred: Breaking Barriers

Tammy Beaumont‘s exceptional century marked a historic achievement in The Hundred, making her the first woman to achieve this milestone in the tournament’s history. In a realm dominated by male counterparts, this achievement stands as a testament to her skill, dedication, and unwavering determination. The rarity of centuries in The Hundred, with only two others achieved across both men’s and women’s categories, underlines the magnitude of her accomplishment. Beaumont’s century propelled the Welsh Fire to a towering score, outshining the Southern Brave’s previous record of 166 runs, and solidifying her position as a cricketing marvel.

Unraveling Beaumont’s Batting Masterclass

Beaumont’s exquisite innings was a display of batting brilliance that left spectators in awe. Her ability to maneuver the ball across the field through well-timed sweeps, precision cuts, and powerful straight drives showcased her versatility and command over a wide range of shots. The momentum of her innings was briefly halted when she was dropped at deep square leg by Jo Gardner, a missed opportunity that would have otherwise curtailed her scintillating performance. Additionally, her partnership with Dunkley, who survived a potential run-out chance, added further dimensions to her innings, displaying her adaptability under pressure.

The Aggressive Approach: A Strike Rate to Admire

One of the defining aspects of Tammy Beaumont’s innings was her aggressive approach, evident in her remarkable strike rate of 166.40. Beaumont’s ability to score runs at a brisk pace, coupled with her expert shot selection, created a formidable combination that left the opposition grappling for answers. The benchmark of her aggressive strategy was her fifty, achieved in just 25 balls with a well-executed sweep shot off Kirstie Gordon. This remarkable feat further solidified her status as a powerhouse in the realm of women’s cricket.

A Season for the Ages: From Ashes to Glory

Tammy Beaumont’s journey to becoming the leading run-scorer in The Hundred is emblematic of a remarkable season that has seen her achieve unprecedented heights. Notably, Beaumont carved her name in the cricketing history books by becoming the first English woman to hit a Test double century during an Ashes series. This landmark accomplishment showcased her adaptability across formats and solidified her reputation as a true stalwart of the sport.
