Cricket Highlights, 01 Sep: Asia Cup 2023 (Match 02) – Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka started the Asia Cup with a win.

Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka (Match 02) – Highlights

Bangladesh lost in their first Asia Cup match at Pallekele on Thursday (31 August) by 5 wickets. Chasing the target of 165 runs given by the Tigers, Sri Lanka reached the port of victory with 11 overs in hand.

With this rate, the struggle to reach the Super Four has become difficult for Bangladesh. Shakib’s team must win their last match against Afghanistan on Sunday (August 31) to reach the main stage. But it is not only about winning, but also depends on the net run rate.

Bangladesh cricket team lost the toss and went down to bat first. Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim’s debut was not pleasant. He was dismissed for no runs against Sri Lanka in their first match in the Asia Cup. Mohammad Naim hit a four in the first over but Tamim departed on the second ball of the next over.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, the most informed batsman on the team, came to play at one down as Tamim got out. Maheesh Theekshana also put him in danger in the over of Tamim getting out. But the review showed that the ball on Shanto’s pad was pitched on the leg side. Shanto then got a life, his catch was dropped by Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka.

Naim’s international debut was impressive, but he failed to live up to expectations against Sri Lanka. When Bangladesh was in danger with one dot after another, Naim departed trying to play a fancy shot. He returned with a catch while playing the shot without understanding the line length of Dhananjaya de Silva‘s ball. The opener scored only 16 runs off 23 balls.

Captain Shakib Al Hasan also returned to the dressing room shortly after his departure. Shakib scored 5 runs off 11 balls. Regular wickets fell at one end, but Shanto was fighting alone at the other end. He made a partnership of 59 runs with Towhid Hridoy for the fourth wicket. He picked up his fifty. Mushfiqur Rahim (13) departed after a quick interval of time when Hridoy returned to the dressing room after scoring 20 runs from 41 balls.

After Mushfiq’s departure, Shanto was moving slowly with Mehidy Hasan Miraz. But Miraz had to return after the team’s 141 runs due to a misunderstanding between the two batters. Shanto was slowly moving towards the century against the procession of falling wickets. There was a chance of getting a century. But this batter had to return with regret.

Shanto returned scoring 89 runs off 122 balls with the help of 7 boundaries. Mahedi Hasan returned to the team after a long time, but he failed to perform. He was got out with an lbw by Dunith Wellalage. Bangladesh’s last 3 wickets fell within 8 balls. As a result, the Tigers were all out with 44 balls left.

Taskin-Shoriful did not allow Sri Lanka to bat freely in pursuit of a small target. After conceding 13 runs in the first two overs, they went on the back foot, but Taskin Ahmed gave hope to the Tiger fans as he sent back Dimuth Karunaratne (1) in the first ball of the third over. Shoriful Islam increased the pressure on the Lankans. He made a fool of Pathum Nissanka who scored 14 runs and sent him to the dressing room.

Shakib’s first over was played very carefully by the Lankan batsmen. The Tiger captain did not give that chance in the second over. He increased the pressure on the Lankans by dismissing the struggling Kusal Mendis (5).

Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka batted very responsibly for the fourth wicket. Their impeccable pair of 78 runs knocked Bangladesh out of the match. When Samarawickrama returned with 54 runs, the Lankans quickly lost another wicket.

But Asalanka did not let the pressure build-up. This batsman took the team to the port of victory by forming a partnership of 40 runs with captain Shanaka. Asalanka scored 62 runs off 92 balls, whereas Shanaka was unbeaten on 14 runs.

Cricket Prediction | South Africa vs Australia | 2nd T20I | September 1, 2023 – Can Australia win the series against South Africa today?

SA vs AUS Match Analysis

South Africa’s top order struggled in the previous match, which was a huge issue for the team. They have a dismal record against Australia in this format and must take advantage of home circumstances to recover. The Australians are fired up and will go for an insurmountable 2-0 lead. The hosts must play with a positive attitude, and it will be intriguing to see if they are up to the task.

South Africa faces a must-win position in the second T20I against Australia. The game will take place at Kingsmead Stadium in Durban.

In the first T20I, Australia defeated South Africa by 111 runs. The hosts were no match for the Australians, who hammered South African bowlers all over the ground. Despite losing wickets at frequent intervals, the Australians continued to go for their shots, resulting in a massive score of 226-6. Captain Mitchell Marsh and Tim David batted well, scoring 92 off 49 balls and 64 off 28 balls, respectively.

South Africa were never in the chase and were dismissed for 115 runs. Reeza Henricks led the way with 56 runs, but none of the other batters could stave off the Aussie attack. Tanvir Sangha claimed four wickets, while Marcus Stoinis claimed three.

SA vs AUS Team Preview & Squads

South Africa

Aiden Markram’s team had a significant challenge in this match. They lost the previous game due to poor bat and ball performance. Their record in T20 cricket hasn’t been terrific in recent years, and Markram would like to see a stronger performance from his men. The Australians will come at them hard, and the South Africans must play their best game to stay in the series.

Reeza Hendricks performed admirably in the previous game, and he will require assistance from Temba Bavuma, who will start the batting for the side. The middle order struggled in the previous match, and they will need partnerships from Rassie van der Dussen, Aiden Markram, and Dewald Brevis. For the side to win here, Tristan Stubbs, Marco Jansen, and Gerald Coetzee must bat well.

The Aussies cleaned up the bowling attack in the previous encounter. To put their opponents under strain, they will need early wickets from Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen. Tarbaiz Shamsi is the side’s primary bowler, and he and Lizaad Williams must bowl excellent spells in the middle overs. The team will also need a strong performance from Coetzee and Williams.

Australia

Mitchell Marsh will be pleased with his team’s performance in the first match. They batted effectively and followed it up with a terrific bowling performance, so it was a textbook performance. With their impressive performance in the previous game, the team has gotten under the skin of the South Africans. Marsh hopes to carry this momentum and win the series in two matches.

Travis Head went quickly in the previous game, and he and Matthew Short will try to get off to a solid start in this one. Marsh batted as captain in the previous encounter and will aim to form partnerships in the middle order with Josh Inglis and Marcus Stoinis. The team features strong finishers and will rely on Tim David, Aaron Hardie, and Sean Abbott.

The bowling attack will be buoyed by their performance in the last match. Spenser Johnson was a bit pricey in the previous game, and he’ll be hoping to do well with Marcus Stoinis with the new ball. Tanveer Sangh and Nathan Ellis bowled effectively, and the team will be looking for more from them. Aaron Hardie and Abbott supplement the team’s bowling options.

Cricket Prediction | South Africa vs Australia | 2nd T20I | September 1, 2023 – Can Australia win the series against South Africa today? Kingsmead-Durban

The captain who wins the toss will bowl. Despite the fact that the Australians won the match by batting first, Durban is a ground where chasing teams have had better success, thus we believe the captain who wins the toss will bowl.

Rain might disrupt the game, since there is a 60% chance of rain in Durban on the day of the play.

Durban’s pitch will be ideal for batting. Australia scored 226 runs in the first T20I. South Africa crumbled under the pressure of a large chase, but there was nothing in the wicket that couldn’t be overcome. Because the pace and bounce are consistent, we anticipate another high-scoring game.

Pakistan vs India Match Analysis

Pakistan started off its quest to the 2023 Asia Cup with a resounding victory over Nepal in Multan. But the talk of the town is about their next game. In the explosive Group A match this Saturday in Pallekele, India and Pakistan will square off once more. The recent 3-0 victory over Afghanistan in their opening Asia Cup match would have given Pakistan a lot of confidence. India, on the other hand, will try to get the competition off to a good start.

Although Pakistan’s victory over Nepal in the tournament’s opening match was fantastic, this will be a very different challenge. To compete, Pakistan will have to perform at their highest level at all times.

In their previous series in this format, India’s squad was not at full strength, but they are playing very close to their first-choice lineup this time around. They will be confident in their chances against a Pakistani team with a lot of talent.

Pakistan vs India Team Preview & Squads

Pakistan

Babar Azam is in excellent shape, which is an understatement. He has always been the most reliable hitter across all formats, and he is off to a great start in the Asia Cup. Babar has participated in 12 ODIs this year, scoring 689 runs at an average of 57.41, with a strike rate of 87.10, two hundred, and six fifty-sevens.

Another player who has the potential to alter the course of the game is the opener, Fakhar Zaman. In addition to having a strong record versus India, Zaman has been playing well.

The danger Iftikhar Ahmed poses lower in the pecking order was demonstrated. Mohammad Rizwan is another option who ought to be able to keep the middle order stable.

The world’s most dangerous fast-bowling assault right now is in Pakistan. Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, and Shaheen Afridi have a history of being deadly on all types of pitches and will be a big threat to India’s batsmen.

Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Imam-ul-Haq, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Naseem Shah, Agha Salman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf

India

India’s batting lineup is powerful as usual. Once again, Virat Kohli will be the major batter they need to watch out for. He has been in great shape this year, scoring 427 runs at an average of 53.37, with 250 totals, in 10 ODIs.

Rohit Sharma is another hitter who has the potential to impact this contest. In 16 ODIs against Pakistan, the Indian captain has an average of 51.42, two hundred, and six fifty-pluses. Despite his recent struggles in ODIs, we anticipate Rohit to contribute well in this crucial match.

Watch out for all-arounder Ravindra Jadeja as well. He can be a key contributor with the bat lower down the order, and his left-arm spin in the middle overs will undoubtedly have an impact.

Kuldeep Yadav can also cause issues for Pakistan’s batting lineup. In 11 ODIs this year, the left-arm wrist spinner has taken 23 wickets for an economy of just 4.87. His bowling should work well on this wicket.

We believe that both captains will decide to field first because the evening of this match will likely provide the best conditions for batting.

The first innings of the game are expected to be interrupted by thunderstorms, followed by calmer conditions throughout the evening in Pallekele.

Earlier in the week, the surface offered turn for the spinners and good carry for the pacers. Around 300 will be considered par.

England vs New Zealand Match Analysis

As anticipated, England thrashed New Zealand in the first Twenty20 International at Chester-le-Street to take a 1-0 series lead. The defending world champions showed off their power and didn’t let the guests get close. If the Kiwis are to defeat this formidable English team, they will have their work cut out for them and will require a solid batting lineup.

On Friday night at Old Trafford, the second of four T20I matches pits England and New Zealand against one another.

In the first game of the series, England took control after the fourth over of the first innings. The group is confident, and they anticipate winning again on Friday night.

Only Glenn Phillips, one of New Zealand’s many talented players, contributed enough with the bat on Wednesday. In this game, we anticipate a much better overall performance from the team.

England vs New Zealand Team Preview & Squads

England

Because of England’s strong batting lineup, no target will be too big for them. They have the top four players in cricket right now Jonny Bairstow, Will Jacks, Dawid Malan, and Harry Brook, who collectively may be the best in the world. They have amazing batting depth thanks to Liam Livingstone, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, and Sam Curran who come after them.

Our batter to watch out for in this match is Skipper Buttler, one of the most dangerous T20 batters in the world. In his last 10 games, he has scored 336 runs at an average of 42 and a strike rate of 143.

The world champions also have a variety of bowling alternatives. Of course, their major weapon is Sam Curran, who has taken 14 wickets in the last 10 games with an economy rate of 6.69. In the previous game, Brydon Carse and Luke Wood both showed promise with the new ball; it will be intriguing to see if they can repeat that performance.

New Zealand

Even with this subpar performance, the Kiwis shouldn’t be too concerned. They still have a strong batting lineup, and as soon as they figure out these conditions, they should be able to perform much better.

Tim Seifert should be on the lookout. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been on a tear lately and finished first in runs scored in the most recent Lanka Premier League.

The go-to fast bowlers for New Zealand are Tim Southee and Lockie Ferguson. In the previous game, both players each took one wicket, but we expect them to perform better in this one.

Ireland's Historic Upset of England at World Cup 2011

In the annals of cricket history, few events have resonated as powerfully as Ireland’s remarkable upset of England in the 2011 World Cup. This iconic match, held in Bangalore, witnessed a spectacular turnaround that left cricket enthusiasts in awe. The remarkable narrative of this encounter echoes far beyond the boundaries of the cricket field, embedding itself in the hearts of fans worldwide.

On that fateful day, the cricketing world bore witness to an extraordinary feat by Kevin O’Brien, the Irish cricketer who etched his name in the record books. In the face of a daunting target set by England at 327-8, O’Brien emerged as the unexpected hero for Ireland. His blistering innings, characterized by fearless strokeplay and impeccable timing, culminated in a jaw-dropping century achieved in just 50 balls.

O’Brien’s innings was nothing short of a masterclass in aggressive batting. With a stunning display of power and finesse, he dispatched the ball to all corners of the ground, amassing six sixes and an impressive tally of 13 fours. This remarkable innings not only propelled Ireland towards an unlikely victory but also solidified O’Brien’s status as a cricketing legend.

Ireland‘s triumph over England was not solely a result of O’Brien’s heroics; it was also a testament to the unwavering spirit and resilience of the entire team. The journey to victory was paved with challenges, as Ireland found themselves struggling at 111 for five wickets, seemingly far from the ambitious target set by England. However, it was precisely during these testing moments that the true character of the Irish team shone through.

Alex Cusack, in partnership with O’Brien, played a pivotal role in steering Ireland towards victory. Their formidable partnership of 162 runs in just 17 overs showcased not only their batting prowess but also their determination to overcome adversity. The duo’s synergy and synchronized assault on the English bowling attack highlighted the potency of teamwork in cricket.

While Ireland’s triumph was undoubtedly earned through skill and determination, it was also aided by a series of missed opportunities on England’s part. England’s fielding performance left much to be desired, as they dropped crucial catches, including those of O’Brien and Cusack. These lapses in concentration and execution ultimately contributed to the shifting momentum of the match.

Furthermore, the inability of the England attack to contain O’Brien’s onslaught exposed the vulnerabilities in their bowling strategy. Even the seasoned Graeme Swann, who managed to secure three wickets for 47 runs, found himself unable to stem the tide of O’Brien’s assault. This inability to contain the Irish batsmen further accentuated the brilliance of O’Brien’s innings.

Ireland’s victory over England in the 2011 World Cup holds historical significance for multiple reasons. Not only did it showcase the potential for upsets in cricket, but it also demonstrated the sport’s ability to transcend geographical boundaries and challenge established norms. The match symbolized the democratization of cricket, underscoring that determination and skill can overcome even the most formidable opponents.
