All about the Asia Cup 2023

Asian nations compete in the Asia Cup, also known as the ACC Men’s Asia Cup or the ACC Cup, which is a men’s international cricket competition in the Twenty20 International (20 overs) format or the One Day International (50 overs). When the Asian Cricket Council was established in 1983 as a way to encourage goodwill among Asian nations, it was established at the same time. Originally, it was scheduled for the event every two years. The Asia Cup is the only regional cricket continental championship, and the winning team is crowned Asia’s champion. Every couple of years, the One-Day International (ODI) and T20I formats are switched.

The offices of the council were situated in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, where the first Asia Cup was held in 1984 (up till 1995). India stayed out of the competition in 1986 due to extremely tense cricketing relations with Sri Lanka. Due to tense political ties with India, Pakistan boycotted the 1990–1991 tournament, and the 1993 tournament was called off for the same reason. Beginning in 2009, the ACC announced that the event would be held every two years. The ICC has recognized all of the Asia Cup matches as official ODIs.

Asia Cup Format Development

Following the Asian Cricket Council‘s downsizing in 2015, the ICC declared that, starting in 2016, Asia Cup matches would alternate between One Day International and Twenty20 International formats in accordance with the style of upcoming international competitions. Because of this, the 2016 event was the first to be contested in the T20I format and served as a warm-up for the 2016 ICC World Twenty20.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors started the competition slowly, but they have regained their rhythm in recent matches and won Match 15 by 98 runs.

Trinbago Knight Riders

The team is counting on Mark Deyal and Martin Guptill to get off to a strong start given their recent runs. The middle order poses a challenge for the squad, hence partnerships involving Nicholas Pooran, Lorcan Tucker, and Pollard are preferred. This batting lineup gains firepower from Andre Russell, Kadeem Alleyne, and Sunil Narine, making it powerful down the order.

The team has a potent bowling assault, and they anticipate great performances from Akeal Hosein and Andre Russell with the new ball. Along with Ali Khan, Sunil Narine has been in fantastic form and will try to pose a challenge to the batsmen in the middle overs. Deyal, Pollard, and Waqar Salamkheil give this bowling assault more alternatives.

England vs New Zealand Match Analysis

This Wednesday at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, the final Twenty20 International between England and New Zealand will be played. England is currently leading the series 2-1. With a stunning performance on Sunday at Edgbaston, when they posted 202-5 and won by 74 runs, New Zealand kept the series alive. The start time of this day-night game is 8:00 local time.

After playing quite well in the first two games, England’s performance in Birmingham on Sunday was unrecognizable. With bat and ball in this game, they must return to their prior high standards.

At Edgbaston, New Zealand delivered by far their strongest performance in the series so far. The team should feel very confident going into this game.

England vs New Zealand Team Preview & Squads

England

However, the home team won’t be overly alarmed by that performance and will simply chalk it up to a bad day at work. After all, this is currently among the best T20 cricket batting teams.

Of course, their primary batter to watch out for this time is Jos Buttler. He has now scored 371 runs at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 152 in his previous 10 games.  The player of the season for England is Harry Brook, who has scored 149 runs in his previous seven games at an average of over 30 and a strike rate of 146.

Jonny Bairstow had struggled in this series twice, but once he found his groove, he went on to score an incredible unbeaten 86. In this series, he has served as the team’s opener, and we are counting on him to perform well in the last T20I.

In terms of bowling, England can find encouragement in the strong performance of its up-and-coming new ball bowlers, Gus Atkinson and Luke Wood. Although they are both inexperienced and young, they have bowled with a lot of emotion.

New Zealand

Devon Conway or Tim Seifert will be looked to by New Zealand to rise to the occasion and leave a lasting impression. Although both have been out of runs in this series, they have recently been crucial to the team’s batting unit.

Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner, a spin duo, recorded superb combined statistics of 4 for 53 from seven overs, in sharp contrast to Adil Rashid and Liam Livingstone‘s ineffective 1 for 98 from eight overs.

With each game, Kyle Jamieson is getting better looking. The tall, fast bowler, who had figures of 3-23 from 4 overs, is gradually finding his rhythm again after a protracted injury layoff. Tim Southee, the captain, also took the initiative by capturing two wickets for 30 runs in 3.3 overs.

With Matt Henry bowling efficiently, Jamieson returning to form, and the spinners among the wickets, this Kiwi bowling attack suddenly appears to be much better.

We anticipate that both captains would choose to field first if they win the toss before this T20I because the circumstances are expected to become increasingly humid as the game goes on.

On Tuesday, Nottingham will see a warm evening with little cloud cover. Throughout this T20I, the temperature will be in the low 20s.

In recent years, Trent Bridge has hosted some of the highest scores in both domestic and international white ball cricket. But so far this year, the wicket has been a little bit more bowler-friendly.

India vs Nepal (Match 5) – Highlights

In the 5th match of the Asia Cup, India and Nepal faced each other at Pallekele on Monday, September 4. In that match, the goal that Nepal set was 231 runs. However, the contest was cut short owing to the weather. Following a lengthy break in play, India was given a target of 145 runs to be scored in 23 overs.

India was in no way in danger from Nepal’s bowling attack. India advanced to the Asia Cup Super-Four after defeating Nepal by 10 wickets while it was raining. With this victory, Rohit Sharma’s side earned three points to place second in Group A. Pakistan is ahead in the run rate even if the points are tied. With that Rohit Sharma won the Man of the Match title by batting brilliantly.

In that match, Nepal built enough capital to fight against a strong team like India. They were all out for 230 runs after playing 48.2 overs. That means India had to make 231 to ensure the Super Four.

In Pallekele, Nepal started well after losing the toss. With Kushal Bhurtel’s astounding batting, Nepal got off to a great start. The opening pair made 65 runs before they reached the 10-over mark. Kushal Bhurtel scored 38 from 25 balls with three fours and two sixes thanks to a wicketkeeper’s catch off Shardul Thakur.

Then came the breeze of Ravindra Jadeja. Bhim Sharkil (7), Kushal Malla (2), and skipper Rohit Paudel (5) all made their way back to the locker room one at a time.

But Opener Asif Sheikh had the upper hand. After 50 runs, Mohammad Siraj made his way to the dressing room. Asif came back with 58 runs off 97 balls and 8 boundaries in the 30th over. In his subsequent over, Siraj picked up another set batter, Gulshan Jha. He made 23 runs off 35 balls.

For the seventh wicket, Sompal Kami and Dipendra Singh put together a partnership of 50 runs. By trapping Dipendra with an LBW for 29 runs off 25 balls with 3 fours, Hardik Pandya ended the partnership. In the meantime, it rained three times.

Sompal Kami finally took the group to a fighting capital. The right-handed batter, who was Shami’s victim, scored 48 runs in 56 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes. Then in 48.2 overs, Nepal was all out for 230 runs.

For India, Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja each claimed three wickets. Besides, Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya, and Shardul Thakur each took 1 wicket.

In order to win the game, the two Indian openers had to score 145 runs according to the DLS system. Shubman Gill finished undefeated on 67 runs off 62 balls with 8 boundaries and 1 six while Rohit Sharma scored 74 off 59 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes. He was also undefeated. In 20.1 overs, India reached 147 without losing a wicket. against Sunday, September 10, India will take against Pakistan in their subsequent game.

World Cup Cricket 2023 India Team

The cricketing world is buzzing with anticipation as the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup approaches. Fans and experts alike have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of India’s squad for this prestigious tournament. However, a last-minute twist in the tale has caused a slight delay in revealing the chosen 15-member squad. The reason? KL Rahul’s fitness clearance. In this blog post, we delve into the details surrounding this development and analyze the possible implications for India’s campaign.

KL Rahul, the talented batsman-wicketkeeper, has been a crucial asset for India in recent years. His batting prowess combined with his agility behind the stumps makes him a valuable addition to the team. However, concerns over his fitness had cast a shadow of doubt over his participation in the World Cup. Nevertheless, reports from the National Cricket Academy (NCA) coaches and team management suggest that Rahul’s fitness is on the right track after intensive training sessions and match simulations.

Rahul’s probable inclusion in the squad has raised questions about the team’s batting order. It is expected that he will reclaim his number 5 spot, a position he has excelled in previously. This could mean that Ishan Kishan might be retained as the second wicketkeeper-batsman, leaving Sanju Samson out of the World Cup squad. The decision to omit Samson might be a tough one, but it highlights the fierce competition for spots in the Indian lineup.

The process of selecting India’s World Cup squad was not without its drama. According to reports, the BCCI’s senior national selection committee finalized the squad late on a Saturday. Chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, flew to Sri Lanka to consult with Indian captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid. This meeting occurred after the India-Pakistan match was washed out, adding a sense of urgency to the decision-making process.

Apart from the Samson omission, there were a few more surprises in the squad selection. Tilak Varman and Prasidh Krishna, who are part of India’s Asia Cup squad, did not make the cut for the ODI World Cup squad. Krishna, in particular, recently returned to the Indian squad after recovering from a lengthy injury layoff. This decision underlines the selectors’ emphasis on form and fitness as they aim to assemble the strongest possible squad for the World Cup.

As the dust settles on the squad selection process, here’s a glance at India’s provisional squad for the World Cup 2023:

Rohit Sharma (Captain)

Hardik Pandya (Vice-Captain)

Shubman Gill

Virat Kohli

Shreyas Iyer

KL Rahul

Ravindra Jadeja

Shardul Thakur

Jasprit Bumrah

Mohammed Siraj

Kuldeep Yadav

Mohammed Shami

Axar Patel

Ishan Kishan

Suryakumar Yadav

This squad boasts a formidable combination of experience and youth, with proven match-winners and exciting talents. Rohit Sharma’s leadership, alongside the guidance of coach Rahul Dravid, will play a pivotal role in India’s World Cup campaign.

while the delay in squad announcement and the exclusion of players like Sanju Samson may have generated some debate and discussion, it’s a testament to the depth of talent in Indian cricket. With KL Rahul’s anticipated return to fitness and the blend of skill in the squad, the Indian team aims to lift the coveted World Cup trophy in 2023.
