5 Indian Stars of 2019 World Cup Who Couldn't Make It This Time

The ICC Cricket World Cup has always been a stage where legends are born and stories are written. The 2019 edition of the tournament was no different, as it witnessed some remarkable performances by Indian cricketers. However, as we gear up for the 2023 World Cup, there are a few notable absentees from the Indian squad who played pivotal roles in the previous edition. Let’s take a closer look at these Indian stars of the 2019 World Cup who won’t be part of the action this time around.

MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni, the iconic former captain of the Indian cricket team, is a name that resonates with cricket enthusiasts worldwide. Known for his astute leadership and calm demeanor, Dhoni guided India to numerous victories in all formats of the game. His last appearance for India was during the 2019 World Cup, where he nearly orchestrated a miraculous victory for his side in the semi-final against New Zealand. His absence leaves a void in the Indian team’s experience and leadership.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar, one of India’s most reputed seam bowlers, played a vital role in the 2019 World Cup, taking 10 wickets in 6 matches. His ability to swing the ball both ways and provide early breakthroughs made him an invaluable asset for the team. Unfortunately, injuries have plagued him recently, forcing him to miss the 2023 World Cup. India will undoubtedly miss his skill and experience in the bowling department.

Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan is known for his splendid performances in ICC tournaments, and his absence in the 2023 World Cup is a significant setback for India. In 2019, he played only a couple of matches, scoring a scintillating century against Australia. However, an unfortunate injury, a broken left thumb after being hit by a Nathan Coulter-Nile delivery, ruled him out for the rest of the tournament. His knack for rising to the occasion will be missed.

Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant burst onto the scene with his electrifying batting and agile wicketkeeping. Often compared to MS Dhoni, Pant redefined the role of a wicketkeeper-batsman. His audacious strokeplay and match-winning capabilities make him a dynamic force in the Indian cricketing landscape. However, he has been sidelined due to a horror car accident, leaving fans eagerly awaiting his return to international cricket.

Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik, a veteran wicket-keeper batter, finds himself on this list. After his 2007 ODI World Cup campaign, he earned another opportunity to represent his country in the 2019 World Cup. While he might not have played a pivotal role in the tournament, his experience and ability to handle pressure situations were valuable.

As India embarks on its journey in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, it’s impossible not to reminisce about the unforgettable moments created by these cricketing giants in the 2019 edition. While they may not be donning the Indian jersey this time, their contributions and legacies will continue to inspire generations of cricketers.

Top 5 Players Who Didn't Make India's ICC World Cup Squad

The anticipation and excitement for the ICC Cricket World Cup are always sky-high in India. The selection of the squad is a topic of intense debate and discussion among cricket enthusiasts across the nation. While the chosen players are celebrated, there are always some notable omissions that leave fans puzzled and disappointed. In this blog post, we’ll delve into the top 5 players who didn’t make India’s ICC World Cup squad and analyze the reasons behind their exclusion.

1. Yuzvendra Chahal

One of the most surprising omissions from the World Cup squad is Yuzvendra Chahal. The leg-spinner has been a crucial part of India’s white-ball setup for years. However, Chahal has been out of action in ODIs since January, which may have contributed to his exclusion. His spin-twin, Kuldeep Yadav, seems to have overtaken him in the pecking order. The last time Chahal played in a World Cup was in the 2019 edition, where he made a significant impact. His absence will undoubtedly be felt by the Indian team in the upcoming tournament.

2. Ravichandran Ashwin

The veteran spin all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin, is another big name missing from the World Cup squad. Ashwin’s last ODI appearance was against South Africa in January 2022. He has represented India in a couple of ODI World Cups in the past (2011 and 2015) and has been a valuable asset with both bat and ball. However, the selectors may have opted for younger options in the spinning department for the upcoming tournament.

3. Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson’s omission from the World Cup squad was somewhat expected, considering the competition for spots. KL Rahul’s return to the squad after his injury and Ishan Kishan’s brilliance with the bat played a significant role in Samson missing out. Samson played his last ODI against the West Indies during India’s tour of the West Indies recently and is now the traveling reserve for the Asia Cup squad, highlighting the stiff competition for wicketkeeper-batsman slots.

4. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan, known for his brilliance in ICC tournaments, is another big name missing from the World Cup squad. Dhawan played crucial roles in India’s campaigns in the 2015 and 2019 ODI World Cups. However, he hasn’t been in the scheme of things for a while, with his last ODI appearance dating back to December 2022. Despite his consistent performances in ICC events, the selectors may have chosen to look at younger talents for this World Cup.

5. Prasidh Krishna

Rounding up this list is Prasidh Krishna, the tall fast bowler who recently made a stellar comeback from injury against the Irish side in T20 cricket. Prasidh was initially named in the team for the Asia Cup but lost his spot to the versatile Shardul Thakur. While his exclusion might be disappointing for fans, it reflects the fierce competition among India’s fast bowlers for a place in the World Cup squad.

The omission of these five talented players from India’s ICC World Cup squad has sparked debates and discussions among fans and experts alike.

India’s Expected Playing XI for Asia Cup Super Four Against Pakistan

India’s Expected Playing XI for Asia Cup Super Four Against Pakistan

India's Expected Playing XI for Asia Cup Super Four Against Pakistan

Cricket fans across the world are eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2023. The first encounter between these arch-rivals was unfortunately washed out due to rain, leaving fans hungry for an exciting contest. As the Men In Blue gear up to face Pakistan once again, let’s analyze India’s expected playing XI and the strategic choices they might make for this crucial match.

One of the biggest dilemmas facing the Indian team management is the inclusion of KL Rahul in the playing XI. Rahul has joined the squad and is known for his explosive batting. However, India also has another in-form wicketkeeping option in Ishan Kishan, who has been delivering impressive performances. This decision presents a tough call for the selectors, as they must choose between Rahul’s experience and Kishan’s recent form.

Shubman Gill is likely to retain his place as the opener. Gill has shown his mettle as a promising young talent and will aim to provide a solid start at the top of the order. Alongside him, the dynamic Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian team, will play a crucial role in setting the tone for the innings. Rohit’s experience and ability to anchor the innings make him a key player for India.

The middle-order batsmen will play a pivotal role in stabilizing the innings and building a competitive total. Virat Kohli, the batting maestro, is expected to lead from the front and provide the team with a steady anchor. Shreyas Iyer, who has been in impressive form, adds depth to the middle order with his aggressive style of play.

As mentioned earlier, KL Rahul’s inclusion as a wicketkeeper-batsman is under consideration. If Rahul gets the nod, he will add experience and depth to the middle order. His ability to adapt to various batting positions is an asset for the team. However, Ishan Kishan, who has showcased his prowess in recent matches, presents a compelling case for inclusion. His explosive batting and wicketkeeping skills make him a strong contender.

Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur are expected to play the roles of all-rounders in the team. Their contributions with both bat and ball provide balance to the side. Kuldeep Yadav, with his spin wizardry, is likely to feature as the primary spinner. The pace attack will be spearheaded by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, both of whom possess the ability to dismantle the opposition’s batting line-up.

The KL Rahul-Ishan Kishan dilemma adds an extra layer of complexity to their selection process. However, with a balanced mix of youth and experience, India’s probable playing XI for the Super Four match against Pakistan looks formidable and capable of delivering a memorable performance.

While the threat of rain still hovers over the match, the excitement and anticipation among fans remain undiminished. Cricket enthusiasts from both nations eagerly await this epic showdown at the R Premadasa stadium, hoping for a thrilling contest between these two cricketing giants.

Trinbago Knight Riders vs Saint Lucia Kings Match Analysis

In the last home match of the Caribbean Premier League 2023, the Trinbago Knight Riders will seek to secure a playoff spot. In the season’s 24th match, the hosts will face the Saint Lucia Kings.

The Knight Riders are confident after defeating the Jamaica Tallawahs in their last encounter. The Kings were defeated by the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in their previous encounter and must now recover.

The Trinbago Knight Riders maintain a good record at this stadium, having only lost three matches there. They have a strong batting lineup and have an advantage against the Saint Lucia Kings. The Kings’ batting collapse in the last match will be exciting to see if they can recover in this encounter.

Trinbago Knight Riders vs Saint Lucia Kings Team Preview & Squads

Trinbago Knight Riders

Kieron Pollard’s team defeated the Jamaica Tallawahs by 7 wickets in their previous encounter. With this victory, the team moved up to first place in the standings. They had previously lost to the Saint Lucia Kings; thus, Pollard would like to see a great performance from his men to win and advance to the next round.

Martin Guptill is in fantastic form and will seek to get things going with Sunil Narine, who has risen up the order. Nicholas Pooran has had a strong campaign and will aim to form partnerships in the middle order with Pollard and Andre Russell. Lorcan Tucker, Akeal Hosein, and Ali Khan round out this powerful lineup.

The bowling attack has performed admirably in recent games. Because the Saint Lucia Kings have a good batting lineup, Jaeal Carmichael and Akeal Hosein will need to make early inroads. Sunil Narine and Waqar Salamkheil will need to deliver in the middle overs. Russell, Pollard, and Ali Khan round up the team’s strong attack.

Saint Lucia Kings

Sikandar Raza’s team was defeated by the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the previous match due to weak batsmanship. The team lost wickets at frequent intervals and finished with a low total on the board. A victory here guarantees them a spot in the playoffs. They crushed the Knight Riders earlier in the season, and Raza wants to do it again.

Johnson Charles and Colin Munro have been impressive up front, and the team will need a solid start in this encounter. The middle order has been inconsistent, and they will require collaboration from Sean Williams, Roston Chase, and Sadrack Descarte. Raza is a strong finisher who must perform well in this match against Roshon Primus.

In the forthcoming match, the bowling attack will be put under strain, and they will require strong spells from Khary Pierre and Roston Chase with the new ball. Alzarri Joseph is this team’s finest bowler and must perform well in the middle overs alongside Sean Williams. They will also anticipate powerful spells from Peter Hatzoglou and Raza.

Cricket Highlights, 10 Sep: Asia Cup 2023 (Match 02) – Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh: Sri Lanka confirmed the Super Four by defeating the Afghans.

Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh (Match 02) – Highlights

Keeping Sri Lanka‘s runs within reach was possible due to the Tigers’ bowlers’ skill. Bangladeshi batsmen needed to bat responsibly and build a partnership to best the match. But despite a good start, the batsmen could not maintain consistency. One-man Towhid Hridoy tried but it didn’t work. Despite coming close, the Tigers could not finish the game bringing the results in their favor. Bangladesh is on the brink of exit from the Asia Cup after losing the game.

Bangladesh lost by 21 runs against Sri Lanka on Saturday (September 9). Bangladesh won the toss and sent Sri Lanka into bat first at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. With the firm batting of Sadeera Samarawickrama and Kusal Mendis, Sri Lanka collected 257 runs losing 9 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

In reply, despite a good start, Bangladesh lost consecutive wickets and collapsed for 236 runs. For the Tigers, Hridoy fought alone against the Lankans on this day. Nasum Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud tried on the last wicket, but it only could reduce the margin of defeat.

Shakib Al Hasan‘s team left the country dreaming of a title before the Asia Cup. But except for one match against Afghanistan, Bangladeshi batsmen have failed in every match. It happened time and again against Sri Lanka too. The Tigers could not handle the Lankan spinners. Six Bangladeshi batsmen returned to the pavilion by giving away their wickets only to Dasun Shanaka and Maheesh Theekshana.

Litton Das, captain Shakib, and veteran Mushfiqur Rahim failed to perform in the crucial match. As a result, the Tigers are on the verge of exit after losing two matches in a row in the Super Four. Except for a miracle happens, the final match against India is now a mere formality.

Not that the Lankans were doing very well when they came out to bat first. Sri Lanka lost the wicket of Dimuth Karunaratne (18) for the team’s 34 runs. Another opener Pathum Nissanka (40) departed after the score reached 108. Kusal also departed with a half-century of 117 runs. He scored 50 runs off 73 balls with 6 fours and 1 six. The Lankans, who were losing wickets at regular intervals, lost the wicket of Charith Asalanka (10) for 144 runs and Dhananjaya de Silva (6) for 164 runs.

But on the other hand, by that time, Samarawickrama had formed a storm with the bat. Captain Shanaka paired with him this time. The duo added 60 runs. Shanaka, who was becoming dangerous, departed with 24 runs off 32 balls. In the end, Sri Lanka scored 257 runs by losing 9 wickets with the bat of Samarawickrama. He scored 93 runs off 72 balls hitting 8 fours and 2 sixes.

In response, Bangladesh openers Mohammad Naim and Mehidy Hasan Miraz got off to a good start. This pair added 55 runs in 11 overs. After that, Miraz, who scored 28 runs from 29 balls, returned with a catch from Shanaka. However, the Tigers lost 3 more wickets when they scored 60 to 83 runs. Naim scored 21 from 46 balls, Shakib scored 3 from 7 balls and Litton got 15 runs from 24 balls.

Hridoy and Mushfiq added 73 runs in the fifth-wicket partnership to bring Bangladesh back into the match. however, Mushfiq (29) put the Tigers in danger by throwing away his wicket with an irresponsible shot. Then Bangladesh’s innings collapsed again. On the one hand, Shamim Hossain (5) returned even though he played with responsibility. Bangladesh was knocked out of the match when Theekshana dismissed Hridoy for the team’s 197 runs. Hridoy played an innings of 82 runs off 97 balls with 7 fours and 1 six.

The Caribbean Premier League 2023 points chart is starting to take shape. The Barbados Royals will play the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 23rd game while dealing with the table topper.

Barbados Royals have exhibited constant inconsistency thus far in the competition. Now they are only two points behind the top team in the standings.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors have been invincible in the 2023 CPL, and they will have a strong sense of self-belief going into this match.

Barbados Royals vs Guyana Amazon Warriors Team Preview & Squads

Barbados Royals

The last two games have seen runs scored by Rahkeem Cornwall and Kyle Mayers, who will want to get the game off to an exciting start. Powell, Alick Athanaze, and Laurie Evans will be needed for runs because the middle order possesses the necessary punch. This batting order is strengthened by the addition of Jason Holder, Nyeem Young, and Roelof van der Merwe.

In order to put the Warriors in trouble, Kyle Mayers and Jason Holder must bowl tight spells with the new ball and take wickets after leaking runs in the previous game. Only Qais Ahmed has been a reliable bowler for the squad, therefore he needs to perform well with Obed McCoy and Cornwall in the middle overs. Nayeem Young gives this assault some diversity.

Saim Ayub, who performed well in the previous game, will try to get off to a strong start in this one alongside Chandrapaul Hemraj. In the middle order, Shai Hope and Azam Khan are in good shape and will try to forge alliances with Shimron Hetmyer. The team is counting on the hard-hitting Dwaine Pretorius, Romario Shepherd, and Keemo Paul to put on a strong performance in this match.

They bowled well in the previous game, but Dwaine Pretorius and Romario Shepherd will be expected to produce better stints with the new ball. Gudakesh Motie and Imran Tahir, who will play a significant role in this match, have worried the hitters with their variety. In their supporting roles, Keemo Paul and Odean Smith are expected to put on a strong performance for the side.

England vs New Zealand Match Analysis

On Sunday in Southampton, England and New Zealand play the second of their four-match ODI series. The first game of the series was played on Friday in Cardiff. With 26 balls remaining, New Zealand won the ODI by 8 wickets thanks to a stellar batting performance. At 11:00 local time, The Rose Bowl will host the second ODI.

The current World Cup champions, England, will be anxious to get back on track before the 2023 World Cup, which begins next month. They have already dropped their past two ODIs.

The last three games of this tour have been victories for New Zealand. They are a very good team because they have hitters who can play aggressively without losing their wickets.

England vs New Zealand Team Preview & Squads

England

Jos Buttler will want to tread a delicate line between giving young players vital experience and still winning this series. With Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy out due to minor ailments, Sam Curran, Moeen Ali, and Mark Wood were all given the day off on Friday.

Jos Buttler, the captain, scored five fours and two sixes on Friday against Cardiff, and he will benefit from Southampton’s slightly faster wicket for this match.

Liam Livingstone, a batting all-rounder for Lancashire, substantially helped England in the first game of the series. At the end of the innings, he scored 52 runs on 40 balls, and he will be more confident going into the match.

The seasoned spinner Adil Rashid couldn’t bowl again until late in Cardiff because he had to leave the field for a few overs. When he can bowl his leg spin, England is a much superior team.

Jos Buttler (c) (wk), Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Gus Atkinson, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, Jonny Bairstow, Adil Rashid

New Zealand

We anticipate that Trent Boult and Mitchell Santner, who were both left out of the team for Friday’s ODI, will be reinserted for this match. With the goal of winning their fourth straight game on the tour, the group is feeling confident.

Although his T20I series was poor, Devon Conway, a steady left-hander, was at his best when he scored another international century in the last game.

On Friday in England, batting all-arounder Daryl Mitchell played one of the best ODI innings in recent memory. After his seven sixes on Friday, England’s bowlers will be alarmed to see him at the crease once more.

The T20I captain Tim Southee is a constant threat at any point in an inning. Under overcast conditions in Southampton, he ought to get in some swing.

Cricket Prediction | ENG vs NZ | 2nd ODI | Sep 10, 2023 – Can England bring back the parity in the second ODI? The Rose Bowl

We forecast that both captains will decide to field first if their team wins the toss ahead of this match because the team batting second has won the last three ODIs in Southampton.

On the south coast, cloudy conditions are anticipated during this encounter. This competition will be held in heavy humidity throughout.

In the most recent ODI played here, there were two scores above 328. In this game on Sunday, we anticipate again another excellent batting surface.
