ENG vs SL Match Analysis

The World Cup is a nightmare for England. They suffered a defeat to New Zealand to start the competition. When they quickly followed up their loss to Bangladesh with a victory, it appeared as though they had regained their groove. In their subsequent two games, though, Afghanistan and South Africa both outperformed the reigning champs. In their final match against the Netherlands, Sri Lanka recorded their first victory in the competition.

However, their match against England will take place in Bengaluru, a city known for its excellent batting conditions, so both teams’ bowlers will have to exert much more effort to maintain an advantage.

Even if England wins every game left, they will only have 12 points overall, which may not be quite enough to go to the semi-finals. Even if they defeat Sri Lanka, they face great competition in the tournament’s remaining rounds, therefore they are now on a very difficult route.

With numerous ups and downs, Sri Lanka has had quite the trip thus far. They allowed 400+ runs in the opening high-scoring game, but they were able to turn things around with the ball in the following games.

ENG vs SL Team Preview & Squads

England

The opening pair of Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan, followed by the seasoned Joe Root at number three, will be key. At the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, which has smaller boundaries and a batting-friendly surface, these three must lay the groundwork for a big score. Harry Brook and Ben Stokes, who struggled to get going in the previous match, will be anxious to attack the Sri Lankan bowlers and have a significant effect in the middle order. Sam Curran and Chris Woakes struggled badly against Afghanistan and were swiftly replaced in the following game. To give the lineup more depth, at least one of these two should return to the lineup.

Another problem with bowling has been the lack of a dependable wicket-taker who could consistently produce victories. The important bowlers to keep an eye out for are Adil Rashid, Reece Topley, and Mark Wood.

England Squads

Jos Buttler (c) (wk), Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Harry Brook, Mark Wood, Dawid Malan, Gus Atkinson.

Sri Lanka

When Sri Lanka batted first, Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samawickrama each hit 100 runs to help the team reach 344 runs. However, Sri Lanka was defeated by 6 wickets in the game. The left-arm fast-medium bowler Dilshan Madhushanka has undoubtedly been the bowler of choice. Even though he has only played in 10 ODIs, his recent performances have been accurate.

In the previous game, Kasun Rajitha was used by Sri Lanka. Despite having Dhananjay de Silva in the lineup, Maheesha Theekshana will be Sri Lanka’s primary spin bowler because of his success.

Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera will be motivated to make a strong impression in this field. With Kusal Mendis at number three, the top order has ample firepower. If Sri Lanka loses an early wicket, Mendis will need to form a partnership. While players like Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka may bat at positions 4 and 5, the job of the number 3 hitter is crucial in ODI cricket.

ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Match Prediction 2023 | Match 25 | England vs Sri Lanka – This match would be tough competition for Sri Lanka. | Oct, 26 MChinnaswamy Stadium Bengaluru

In 20 of the 39 ODI games played here, the team that bowls first has prevailed. It is a high-scoring field where the pursuing team has historically held an advantage. Both clubs have some talented batsmen, but their bowling is in terrible shape. It would be logical to bowl first rather than attempt to protect a score.

High temperature in Bengaluru would be 31 degrees Celsius with mainly sunny weather. In the most recent ODI played at this location, Australia scored 367 runs on the surface, making it a batting haven. Given the reduced dimensions of the ground, spinners can also get some assistance off the surface but will have no room for error.

ICC ODI World Cup Points Table: Tracking Team Rankings after Afghanistan Upset in 22nd Match   ODI World Cup Points Table

India is setting the stage on fire, having played 5 matches, and winning all of them. With a perfect record of 5 wins and 0 losses, they sit comfortably at the top of the points table with 10 points. Their net run rate (NRR) is an impressive 1.353, showcasing their dominance in the competition.

South Africa is another team making a strong statement with 4 wins out of 5 matches. They have suffered just one loss, which places them at second in the rankings with 8 points. Their NRR of 2.370 indicates their well-rounded performance.

New Zealand is also standing tall with 4 wins and 1 loss, mirroring South Africa’s record. They share the same points total of 8 but have a slightly lower NRR of 1.481. The Kiwis are proving to be a formidable force in the tournament.

Australia has played 4 matches, securing 2 wins and 2 losses. They currently have 4 points and a NRR of -0.193. Australia’s performance has been somewhat inconsistent, and they will need to step up their game to secure a semi-final spot.

Pakistan, like Australia, has 4 points from 5 matches with 2 wins and 3 losses. Their NRR of -0.400 places them in a similar position. Pakistan has shown moments of brilliance but needs to find more consistency to move up the ladder.

Afghanistan was the talk of the town after their stunning upset victory against India. However, with 2 wins and 3 losses, they find themselves with 4 points and a NRR of -0.969. Afghanistan’s triumph over India proves that they are a team to watch out for.

The Netherlands is at 2 points, having secured 1 win and 3 losses in 4 matches. Their NRR stands at -0.790, and they will aim to bounce back in the upcoming matches to improve their standing.

Cricket Highlights, 24 Oct: ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 (23rd Match) – South Africa vs Bangladesh – Despite Riyad's century, Bangladesh suffered a major loss.

South Africa vs Bangladesh (23rd Match) – Highlights

Before reaching the 60-run mark, Bangladesh lost 5 wickets while chasing a target, like a mountain. Only Mahmudullah Riyad was able to rescue the team from that. By preserving one end, he amassed a fantastic century. However, Bangladesh had already veered off the winning route by that point. Despite Mahmudullah’s valiant efforts, Shakib Al Hasan’s side fell short by a wide margin to South Africa.

At the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24, South Africa defeated Bangladesh by 149 runs. The Tigers stopped at 233 runs while attempting to reach the South African-set mark of 383 runs.

The game did not, however, go very far. Bangladesh may have quickly gone all out. Riyad, however, managed to maintain one edge and spare Bangladesh the humiliating defeat. He hit 11 fours and 4 sixes in his 111 runs from 111 balls. This right-handed batsman contributed nearly half of Bangladesh’s total runs.

In the first six overs of pursuing the challenging total, Bangladesh scored 30 runs without losing a wicket. However, the Tigers lost their bearings after that. The seventh over, bowled by Marco Jansen, saw Bangladesh lose two wickets in a row. In the following over, Lizaad Williams returned Shakib Al Hasan to the dressing room.

In the twelfth over, Gerald Coetzee returned Mushfiqur Rahim after they lost three wickets in the powerplay. Liton Das was left through lbw by Kagiso Rabada in the 15th over at the team’s 58 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz returned after getting caught off Keshav Maharaj’s ball.

Together with Nasum Ahmed, Riyad scored 41 runs for the seventh wicket. Hasan Mahmud assisted Riyad after Nasum’s return, scoring 19 runs off of 19 balls. However, Riyad and Mustafizur Rahman created the most significant pairing. The majority of the 68 runs the two scored together came from Riyad’s bat. Bangladesh was out after Riyad returned with a century, and they were done in one over.

After losing the toss, Shariful Islam bowled Riza Hendricks in the sixth over. After Hendricks was out, Mehidy Miraz trapped Rassie van der Dussen in lbw in the next over. Playing Miraz’s off-spin delivery to fine leg, the right-handed batsman was out by LBW.

Despite losing two quick wickets, South Africa quickly returned to the match with the pair of Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram. After losing 2 wickets for 36 runs, Aiden Markram and de Kock made a partnership of 131 runs. Shakib brought back Markram who scored 60 runs by making a catch at long off.

By fracturing the couple, Bangladesh was put in greater danger. Klaasen batted like a whirlwind with the at five. Following the century, De Kock also accelerated the run rate. They played 87 balls in total, scoring 132 runs in a devastating partnership. De Kock hit 15 fours and 7 sixes in his 174-run innings off 140 balls. After playing a phenomenal innings of 90 runs off 49 balls with 8 sixes and 2 fours, Klaasen was dismissed.

De Kock eventually increased his run total to 174, opening the door for a double century. Klassen had a chance to go for a century as well. However, Hasan Mahmud returned them both. However, by that point, the African team had amassed a mountain of runs. South Africa’s innings ultimately came to a conclusion at 382 runs, with a cameo of Miller’s 34 runs from 15 balls.
