PAK vs SA Match Analysis

At the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, Pakistan and South Africa will play in match 26 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. It is anticipated that the contest will start around 1:30 PM IST.

Prior to this game, South Africa had defeated Bangladesh, and Pakistan had suffered a defeat to Afghanistan.

The Green Shirts aim to resume their winning ways when they play South Africa. In this match that needs to be won, Captain Babar Azam will be hoping that the team can play at its very best. However, South Africa will be looking to the top players to perform well in this crucial match.

PAK vs SA Team Preview & Squads

Pakistan

After defeating Australia, Afghanistan, and the Netherlands to start the tournament well, Pakistan subsequently lost to Australia, India, and Sri Lanka. Among the three consecutive losses, the third one was arguably the worst. That revealed a squad that, in order to have a chance of making the semifinals, really can’t afford to lose again here.

The batsman Mohammad Rizwan, who is easily the team’s top run scorer in the league with 302 runs at an average of 75.50 and a strike rate of 95.87, including one century and one half-century, is a major asset to Pakistan’s batting unit.

This tournament, fast bowlers Hasan Ali, Haris Rauf, and Shaheen Afridi have split 26 wickets between them. Afridi has 10 wickets in five games, however if you exclude the five wickets he got in the Australians’ defeat, he only has five in four games. Pakistan is still concerned about his form.

South Africa

In this match, Aiden Markram will be hoping the team can maintain its winning streak. South Africa defeated Bangladesh in Mumbai by a score of 149 runs in their previous match. With five games played in the league, South Africa now holds the second spot with eight points after earning convincing victories against Bangladesh and England.

Quinton de Kock, a wicketkeeper-batter from Proteas, is the tournament’s top run scorer overall. In just five innings, he has already amassed 407 runs, including three hundreds. In fact, six of the 19 hundreds scored at this year’s Cricket World Cup have come from South Africa. Heinrich Klaasen, on the other hand, has amassed 288 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 150.78 and an average of 57.60.

Three bowlers for the Proteas have amassed ten wickets apiece in the tournament thus far. Gerald Coetzee, an all-around player, averages more than two wickets per game, and Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen, two quick bowlers, have also been reasonably prolific. It’s still unclear if Lungi Ngidi, who is injured, will start in this game.

Pakistan has played 5 matches so far in the ICC World Cup Tournament. Among those 5 matches, they have won two matches. So we are going to take a closer look at the Pakistani bowlers who have conceded the most runs in the tournament until the 25th match.

Haris Rauf

In a match against Sri Lanka held in Hyderabad on the 10th of October, Hasan Ali, one of Pakistan’s premier fast bowlers, had a rather expensive outing. Despite taking four wickets, he conceded 71 runs in his ten-over spell. Despite this performance, Shaheen’s ability to swing the ball and his consistent pace make him a valuable asset for Pakistan in the long run.

Afghanistan’s Record-Breaking Highest Successful ODI Chase in ICC World Cup 2023

Afghanistan’s Record-Breaking Highest Successful ODI Chase in ICC World Cup 2023

Afghanistan’s Record-Breaking Highest Successful ODI Chase in ICC World Cup 2023

What a spectacular show! Afghanistan did what they are capable of. Hunting down a superpower like Pakistan in the World Cup match is a splendid job by Afghanistan. While chasing the target Afghanistan was in full confidence. That was their highest target chasing record and they did it like they were very much used to it. Thanks to their opening pairs who had pushed through the difficulties and achieved what they deserved.

This exceptional victory not only established Afghanistan as a formidable force in the world of cricket but also showcased their ability to break new ground in the most prestigious ODI tournament. Let’s delve into the key takeaways from this historic clash:

The Afghan team’s pursuit of 283 runs marked the first time Pakistan failed to defend a 275-plus target at the men’s ODI World Cup, despite having successfully defended such targets on 13 previous occasions. The previous highest chase against Pakistan at the World Cup was India’s 274 in 2003. This victory not only shattered Pakistan’s reputation as a formidable defending team but also created a memorable moment in Afghanistan’s cricket history.

This win was extra special for Afghanistan as they defeated Pakistan in an ODI for the first time, ending a seven-match losing streak against their arch-rivals. Furthermore, this victory highlighted Afghanistan’s growing prowess in the ODI format, as they have now triumphed over 13 of the 17 teams they have faced in ODIs. It underlines their rapid progress on the international cricketing stage.

The defeat to Afghanistan marked Pakistan’s third consecutive loss in the World Cup, following defeats to India and Australia in their previous matches. This is only the second time in ODI World Cup history that Pakistan has suffered a hat-trick of losses, with the first instance occurring in 1999 against Bangladesh, South Africa, and India. It was a tough phase for Pakistan, which highlighted the fierce competition in the tournament.

Afghanistan’s successful chase was anchored by a brilliant partnership between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, resulting in a century stand. This partnership was their fourth in 2023, making them the pair with the joint-most century stands in men’s ODIs that year, alongside Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill. It’s a testament to Afghanistan’s burgeoning talent and their ability to compete at the highest level.

The match witnessed a groundbreaking moment as Afghanistan’s top three batters scored 50 or more runs during the run chase. This marked the first instance of the top three batters achieving this feat in a men’s ODI World Cup run chase. It’s a clear indication of Afghanistan’s batting prowess and their ability to handle pressure on the grandest stage.

In another remarkable statistic, Afghanistan’s top three batters have achieved 50-plus scores in the same ODI on two occasions, with the previous instance occurring against Sri Lanka in last year’s Pallekele ODI. This match also saw Afghanistan’s first-ever fifty-plus stands for the first three wickets in an ODI, reinforcing their growth as a cricketing nation.

Australia vs Netherlands (Match 24) – Highlights

Australia has created a new history in the World Cup by defeating the Netherlands by a colossal margin of 309 runs. The previous record was also held by the Aussies. They set the record earlier by defeating Afghanistan by 275 runs in the ICC Men’s World Cup 2015.

In Delhi on Wednesday (October 25) to chase the 400 runs given by Australia, the innings of the Netherlands ended after scoring only 90 runs in 21 overs. Spinner Adam Zampa grabbed 4 wickets alone on the way to wrap up the Dutch before collecting hundreds of runs. Mitchell Marsh took 2 wickets. Besides, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and captain Pat Cummins picked up 1 wicket each.

Facing the Aussie bowlers in the run chase, no Dutch batsman could stay at the crease except captain Scott Edwards. Edwards came down to the crease for the fifth wicket to take the helm of the team under pressure after losing the opening 4 batters for 53 runs. He held one end of the crease, but the other end collapsed like a house of cards.

In the end, Zampa tied the innings of the Dutch to 90 runs by picking up 4 wickets alone with a gap of 4 runs. Opener Vikramjit Singh scored the highest 25 runs for the team. Edwards was unbeaten on 12 off 22 balls.

Earlier, after winning the toss and batting first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, Australia collected 399 runs losing 8 wickets after the 50 overs that was set by David Warner and Glenn Maxwell’s century. The centurion of the previous match, Mitchell Marsh, was the victim of Logan van Beek and returned to the dressing room as soon as 28 runs were added to the team’s account at the beginning. He could score only 9 runs off 15 balls.

However, Steven Smith and Warner dominated on the second wicket. 132 runs came from their partnership. With 9 fours and 1 six, Smith returned to the dressing room after scoring 71 runs off 68 balls. After that, Warner made another partnership of 84 runs with Marnus Labuschagne. He also returned scoring 62 runs off 47 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes, but Warner kept one side of the crease safe.

After scoring his second in the current World Cup and 22nd career century, Warner left the field with 267 runs for the team. This opener scored 104 runs off 93 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes. After that, Maxwell made new history in the World Cup by coming down to the crease, he made the fastest century in World Cup history on the day. He scored a 40-ball century by going after the Dutch bowlers hard. Earlier in the current World Cup, Aiden Markram’s 49-ball century against Sri Lanka was the fastest hundred in the World Cup.

In the end, Australia collected 131 runs in the last 10 overs based on Maxwell’s outstanding innings. He scored 106 off 44 balls smashing 9 fours and 8 sixes. Maxwell was also adjudged Player of the Match for his devastating innings. Pacer Logan van Beek took the maximum number of 4 wickets at the cost of 74 runs for the Dutch. Apart from this, Bas de Leede took 2 wickets and Aryan Dutt took 1 wicket.

As a result of this victory, Australia is in the 4th position in the standings. Along with that, they advanced one step towards the semi-final. On the other hand, the Netherlands are now at the bottom of the points table after being defeated.
