When asked which team can make the impossible possible in the batting market, the name of West Indies will undoubtedly come on the list of priorities. Brandon King and Rovman Powell showed his proof once again with the bat. They won the match by 10 runs with great batting and brought the team a collection of 176 runs. West Indies took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series against England.
Two openers Brandon King and Kyle Meyers got off to a good start after losing the toss to bat in the second match of the series in St. George on Thursday. Mayers scored 17 runs off 16 balls to return home with a team’s total of 43 runs. After that, the West Indies lost three more wickets (Nicolas Pooran 5, Shai Hope 1, and Shimron Hetmyer 2 runs) to get 11 more runs.
After losing four quick wickets, King put on a 49-ball 80-run partnership with Rovman Powell, who dropped to number 6. Powell returned with a 28-ball fifty (3 fours and 5 sixes). Then King made another pair of 42 runs with Andre Russell. Russell returned with 14 runs off 10 balls, but King left the field unbeaten. Caribbean opener King played a great innings of 82 runs off 52 balls. This right-handed batsman completed the innings with 8 fours and 5 sixes. In the end, West Indies scored 176 runs for 7 wickets.
In response, England stumbled at the start of batting. The visitors lost the first wicket for 9 runs. All-rounder Sam Curran played the highest innings of 50 runs from 32 balls for the team. This is the first half-century of his T20 career. Besides, opener Phil Salt scored 25 runs off 23 balls. Will Jacks scored 24 from 21 balls, Liam Livingstone scored 17 from 9 balls, Moeen Ali scored 22 from 13 balls and Rihan Ahmed scored 10 runs from 3 balls. In the end, England stopped at 166 runs after going down to bat with a target of 177 runs. Finally, West Indies won by 10 runs.
Alzarri Joseph took the maximum 3 wickets (at the cost of 39 runs) for West Indies. Adil Rashid and Tymal Mills took two wickets each for England.
Earlier in the first T20 at Bridgetown, West Indies won by 4 wickets thanks to Andre Russell’s all-round performance. As a result, the Caribbean took a 2-0 lead in the series.
