Who Were the 5 Biggest Underperformers for RCB in IPL 2024

Once again, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have let an IPL trophy slip through their fingers. Despite displaying promise and a strong will to win, RCB’s 2024 season was characterized by patchy play and some conspicuous underperformances from important players. After winning just one of their opening seven games, RCB produced a stunning comeback, winning six straight to guarantee a postseason berth. But their adventure came to an end when they faced the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the elimination round. This IPL 2024, let’s examine the five players whose bad performances have hurt RCB the most.

Glenn Maxwell

The biggest underperformer for RCB in IPL 2024 was undoubtedly Glenn Maxwell. After a stellar 2023 season where he scored 400 runs, Maxwell’s form took a dramatic nosedive in 2024. He managed to score only 52 runs across nine innings, averaging a mere 5.7.

Maxwell’s inability to contribute significantly with the bat was a huge blow to RCB. His string of poor performances culminated in a first-ball duck in the crucial eliminator match against RR, shattering RCB’s hopes of posting a competitive total. His failure to find form throughout the season led to him being benched for several games, highlighting his drastic decline and its impact on RCB’s overall performance.

Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis

The RCB captain, Faf du Plessis, was one of the most consistent performers in the 2023 season, scoring 730 runs at an impressive average of 56.1. However, the 2024 season saw a significant dip in his form. Despite scoring 438 runs in 15 matches, his average dropped to 29.2, which was below his usual standards.

Du Plessis managed to hit four half-centuries, but his inability to convert starts into big scores and his frequent dismissals in the powerplay (10 times in 15 matches) were major setbacks for RCB.

Mohammed Siraj

Mohammed Siraj, RCB’s leading pacer, had set high expectations after taking 19 wickets in IPL 2023. However, in the first half of the 2024 season, he took only four wickets in six matches and conceded runs heavily, weakening RCB’s attack. This dip in form led to his temporary exclusion. Though he made a comeback later, taking two crucial wickets in the eliminator against RR, his early struggles had already significantly impacted RCB’s tournament chances.

Mayank Dagar

Traded from SunRisers Hyderabad, Mayank Dagar was expected to stabilize RCB’s spin department, especially after Shahbaz Ahmed’s departure. However, in his five matches, Dagar managed only one wicket and conceded runs at an economy rate of 10.1. His inability to take wickets and control runs led RCB to favor Karn Sharma over him, leaving RCB struggling for effective spin options and impacting their middle-overs control in several games

Alzarri Joseph

Bought for INR 11.5 crore with high expectations, West Indian pacer Alzarri Joseph was anticipated to be a game-changer for RCB. However, his stint was disappointing, taking only one wicket and conceding runs at an economy rate of 11.9 in three matches. His inability to perform led to his early exclusion from the playing XI, and he was replaced by Lockie Ferguson, spending most of the season on the bench.

What Are Virat Kohli’s Best IPL Seasons by Strike-Rate?

What Are Virat Kohli’s Best IPL Seasons by Strike-Rate?

What Are Virat Kohli’s Best IPL Seasons by Strike-Rate

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) Virat Kohli had a stellar 2024 IPL season, leading the charts with 741 runs at an average of 61.75 in 15 games. Despite his efforts, RCB fell short in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Kohli, the IPL’s all-time leading run-scorer, became the first to surpass 8000 runs this season. Although his initial strike rate drew criticism, his overall strike rate of 154.69 in 2024 was a significant improvement from his career IPL strike rate of under 132. As fans debate his 2024 strike rate, here’s a closer look at his top five IPL seasons by strike rate.

IPL 2024: SR 154.69

Amidst the debate and criticism about his strike rate, 2024 turned out to be Kohli’s best season in terms of strike rate. He scored 741 runs at an impressive strike rate of 154.69 in 15 games, the second-highest run tally in a single season in his career. Kohli’s performances included five half-centuries and a century, playing a crucial role in RCB’s turnaround in the latter half of the season. After a dismal start with seven losses in eight matches, RCB won their next six games to secure a playoff spot. Despite their spirited comeback, RCB’s journey ended in the Eliminator, marking their 17th season without an IPL title.

IPL 2016: SR 152.03

Virat Kohli’s 2016 IPL season is widely regarded as the best ever by a batter in the tournament’s history. He scored a record-breaking 973 runs at an average of 81.80 and a strike rate of 152.03 across 16 games. Kohli not only amassed an unprecedented volume of runs but did so at a blistering pace, scoring four centuries and eleven 50+ scores. His extraordinary performance helped RCB finish second in the points table with eight wins from 14 games and advance to the final. However, they were defeated by SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the summit clash.

IPL 2010: SR 144.81

Few might recall that one of Kohli’s best strike rates came in 2010, during the early years of the IPL. He scored 307 runs at a strike rate of 144.81 in 16 games, his first season crossing the 300-run threshold. Batting in the middle and lower-middle order, Kohli’s average was 27.90, with one half-century. His role allowed him to play more aggressively, boosting his strike rate. That year, RCB finished fourth in the points table but lost in the semi-finals to Mumbai Indians (MI).

IPL 2019: SR 141.46

Virat Kohli’s 2019 season was unusual. Despite having an underwhelming campaign by his standards—he only managed 464 runs in 14 games—he struck out at an astounding 141.46 percent. Only three times that season did he score more than 50 runs, but he still had a good strike rate. The way RCB performed was similar to their 2024 campaign; they lost their first six games before winning five of their final eight. With 11 points from 14 games, RCB finished at the bottom of the table despite their late rally. Eighth place on the Orange Cap standings went to Kohli.

Cricket Prediction West Indies vs South Africa 3rd T20I May 27– Let’s see whether WI whitewash RSA.

WI vs RSA Match Analysis

In the last T20I, South Africa will play the West Indies. On May 27, at 12:30 AM IST, the game will occur at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

In the series’ first two T20Is, WI has been thorough. They defeated SA by a resounding 28 runs in the opening game, and they followed that up with a 16-run victory in the second. West Indies had scored 175 and 207 runs in the first two innings thanks to the explosive hitting of the team. The spinners have stifled SA for runs with the ball.

The middle order appears out of touch as the players have failed to score in both games, despite SA’s improved performance in the second game where they scored 191 in a chase of 208. The fact that they are playing a second-string squad and the key players are unavailable for the series won’t worry the team, though.

WI vs RSA Team Preview & Squads

West Indies

Brandon King will be pleased with his teammates’ performances. In this series, he heads a diminished team, but the players have performed as anticipated. To increase their confidence ahead of the World Cup, the captain has led from the front and will want to continue doing so in this match.

Having performed admirably in both games, Brandon King will try to light up the scoreboard early in this matchup with Johnson Charles. The squad anticipates that Kyle Mayers, Roston Chase, and Andre Fletcher will forge relationships in the same way that they did in the last game. In the lower middle order, Fabian Allen and Akeal Hosein provide strength to this hitting group.

The bowlers performed admirably in the final overs of the previous game, but Kyle Mayers and Roston Chase need to get early wickets for the side. Gudakesh Motie needs to do well in the middle overs with Obed McCoy and Shamar Joseph since he has caused problems for the South African batsmen in both games. The team’s bowling options are increased by Fabian Allen, Romario Shepherd, and Akeal Hosein.

West Indies Squads

Brandon King (c), Andre Fletcher (wk), Kyle Mayers, Fabian Allen, Gudakesh Motie, Akeal Hosein, Obed McCoy, Roston Chase, Romario Shepherd, Johnson Charles, Shamar Joseph

South Africa

It is his teammates who will let Rassie van der Dussen down. They have bowled badly in both games and after a fantastic start to their run chase, the middle and lower middle order threw away the last game. The team will be under pressure to prevent a series rout, and van der Dussen anticipates a more competitive effort from his group.

We want to build on the outstanding starts that Reeza Hendricks and Quinton de Kock gave us in the previous game. The team’s middle order is their weak point, thus they need to form alliances with Matthew Breetzke, Ryan Rickelton, and Rassie van der Dussen. The club looks to good hitters like Wiaan Mulder, Andile Phehlukwayo, and Bjorn Fortuin for their contributions.

In both games, there have been subpar bowling performances. After doing admirably in the last game, Bjorn Fortuin and his seasoned partner Lungi Ngidi need to get going quickly. To put pressure on the hosts, Nqaba Peter and Anrich Nortje need to bowl better lines in the middle overs. Mulder and Andile Phehlukwayo should not have let up runs like they did in the previous game.

WI vs RSA outfield report

Cricket Prediction | West Indies vs South Africa | 3rd T20I | May 27– Let’s see whether WI whitewash RSA.  Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica

The team that batted first prevailed in both contests. Run chases become more challenging in the second half as the wicket slows down. The team that wins the toss will choose to bat first because we anticipate that this pattern will continue.

On May 26, there will be cloud cover across Jamaica.

To score runs, batsmen must play carefully because the wicket aids the bowlers. A score above 180 runs on this wicket will satisfy the team that bats first.

Which Players Scored the Most Runs in a Single IPL Season but Didn’t Reach the Final?

Which Players Scored the Most Runs in a Single IPL Season but Didn’t Reach the Final?

Which Players Scored the Most Runs in a Single IPL Season but Didn't Reach the Final

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed numerous remarkable batting performances over the years. Yet, even the most prolific run-scorers have sometimes seen their teams fall short of reaching the coveted final. Let’s delve into five notable instances where players amassed the highest runs in a single season but couldn’t steer their teams to the final.

Virat Kohli (2024): 741 Runs

Virat Kohli, the stalwart of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), experienced another heart-wrenching exit from the IPL in 2024. Despite his stellar performance throughout the season, RCB’s journey ended in the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals. Kohli’s 2024 campaign was nothing short of spectacular, as he accumulated 741 runs in 15 innings, averaging 61.75 with a strike rate of 154.70. His season featured one century and five half-centuries, including a sensational 113* off 72 balls against Rajasthan Royals and a blistering 92 off 47 against Punjab Kings.

Kohli’s remarkable consistency and ability to anchor the innings were pivotal for RCB’s resurgence after a poor start. However, despite his efforts, RCB couldn’t capitalize in the crucial knockout stage, and Kohli’s dream of lifting the IPL trophy remains unfulfilled.

Chris Gayle (2012): 733 Runs

Which Players Scored the Most Runs in a Single IPL Season but Didn't Reach the Final? Chris Gayle (2012): 733 Runs

Chris Gayle’s explosive batting made him one of the most feared players in the IPL. In the 2012 season, Gayle was at his destructive best, scoring 733 runs in 14 innings for RCB at an average of 61.08 and an astonishing strike rate of 160.74. His campaign included one century and seven half-centuries. Notable innings included an unbeaten 128 off 62 balls against Delhi Capitals and a match-winning 87 off 56 against Punjab Kings.

Despite Gayle’s Herculean efforts, RCB finished fifth in the points table and failed to make it to the playoffs. Gayle’s dominant performances entertained fans and struck fear into bowlers, but the team couldn’t translate his individual brilliance into collective success.

Faf du Plessis (2023): 730 Runs

Which Players Scored the Most Runs in a Single IPL Season but Didn't Reach the Final?

Faf du Plessis (2023): 730 Runs

Faf du Plessis showcased exceptional form in the 2023 IPL season for RCB. He amassed 730 runs in 14 innings, averaging 56.15 with a strike rate of 153.68. Although Du Plessis didn’t score a century, he notched up eight half-centuries, with a highest score of 84 against Punjab Kings. His unbeaten 79 off 46 against Lucknow Super Giants highlighted his ability to anchor and accelerate the innings.

Despite Du Plessis’ efforts, RCB finished sixth in the points table, winning seven out of 14 matches. His consistency at the top of the order was commendable, but RCB’s overall team performance fell short, leaving them out of the playoff race.

Chris Gayle (2013): 708 Runs

Which Players Scored the Most Runs in a Single IPL Season but Didn't Reach the Final? Chris Gayle (2013): 708 Runs

Chris Gayle features again on this list for his 2013 season exploits. He scored 708 runs in 17 innings, averaging 59 with a strike rate of 156.29. His 2013 campaign was highlighted by an iconic 175* off 66 balls against Pune Warriors, a record-breaking innings that included 13 fours and 17 sixes. Gayle’s power-hitting was on full display, and he also contributed significant scores like 92 off 58 against Mumbai Indians.

Despite Gayle’s breathtaking performances, RCB finished fifth in the points table and couldn’t advance to the playoffs. Gayle’s season remains one of the most memorable in IPL history, but team success eluded him and RCB.

What Is Yuvraj Singh’s Vision for India’s T20 World Cup Squad?

What Is Yuvraj Singh’s Vision for India’s T20 World Cup Squad?

What Is Yuvraj Singh’s Vision for India’s T20 World Cup Squad

As the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 ambassador, Yuvraj Singh has a vested interest in seeing India reclaim the glory they last tasted in 2007. His vision for India’s squad is rooted in a blend of experience, potential, and strategic combinations, reflecting his deep understanding of the game and its evolving demands. With the World Cup set to commence on June 1st in the West Indies and USA, Yuvraj’s insights provide a compelling blueprint for what he believes is India’s best XI.

The Top Order

Yuvraj’s selection for the top order underscores his preference for stability intertwined with explosive potential. He advocates for the established duo of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal to open the innings. Rohit’s vast experience and calm demeanor, combined with Jaiswal’s youthful exuberance and aggressive stroke play, create a dynamic opening pair that can adapt to various match situations.

At number three, Virat Kohli is an undisputed choice for Yuvraj. Kohli’s consistency and ability to anchor the innings while accelerating when needed make him indispensable. Following Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav slots in at number four. Known for his 360-degree shot-making ability, Yadav provides the middle order with the firepower to dismantle any bowling attack.

Left-Right Combinations

A significant aspect of Yuvraj’s vision is the emphasis on left-right batting combinations, which he believes can unsettle bowlers and disrupt their rhythm. This strategy leads him to prefer Rishabh Pant over Sanju Samson for the wicketkeeper’s role. Despite Samson’s impressive form and captaincy prowess in the IPL, Yuvraj leans towards Pant, citing his potential to be a match-winner and his left-handedness as crucial factors.

Pant’s journey back from a severe car accident to regain form and fitness is a testament to his resilience. His aggressive batting style and ability to play impactful innings in high-pressure situations align perfectly with Yuvraj’s philosophy of having players who can change the course of the game.

All-Rounder

The inclusion of Hardik Pandya, despite his recent struggles with the bat, is another critical element of Yuvraj’s squad. Pandya’s role as an all-rounder is vital, not just for his explosive batting but also for his ability to contribute to the ball. Yuvraj acknowledges Pandya’s subpar IPL form but emphasizes the importance of his experience and past performances for India.

Yuvraj’s faith in Pandya stems from his potential to deliver under pressure, highlighting that selectors considered more than just IPL form when choosing the squad. Pandya’s fitness and bowling capabilities will be pivotal, and Yuvraj is optimistic that he will rise to the occasion in the World Cup.

Bowling

Yuvraj’s vision for the bowling attack combines experience with tactical variety. He is particularly pleased with the inclusion of Yuzvendra Chahal, who returns to the T20I squad after a hiatus. Chahal’s ability to exploit slower wickets in the latter stages of the tournament adds a critical dimension to India’s spin attack.

The pace department, according to Yuvraj, looks robust with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh. Bumrah’s expertise in handling pressure situations, Siraj’s aggressive fast bowling, and Arshdeep’s left-arm seam provide a well-rounded and formidable bowling unit capable of adapting to different conditions.

Cricket Highlights, 24 May IPL 2024 (Qualifier 2) – Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals

Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Rajasthan Royals (Qualifier 2) – Highlights

Rajasthan Royals might not have imagined that two infamous bowlers would knock them out of the match. Sanju Samson’s team has been hit by the whirlwind of Shahbaz Ahmed on one side and Abhishek Sharma on the other. As a result, Sunrisers Hyderabad confirmed the final winning by 36 runs.

Chasing 176 runs in the second qualifier of IPL on Friday (May 24), Rajasthan stopped at 139 runs after losing 7 wickets at the end of the scheduled 20 overs. Dhruv Jurel was unbeaten on 56 runs in a single match for RR. Hyderabad’s two trump cards Shahbaz took 3 wickets and Abhishek 2 wickets.

The target was 176 runs at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. While pitch spin helps, such a target has not been challenging in the current IPL. Maybe if they used regular bowlers, Hyderabad would not have been able to stop Rajasthan. Captain Pat Cummins therefore took a different plan. Batting first, his team’s batsmen were hit by the slower pace of Sandeep Sharma and Abesh Khan. Using that intelligence, Cummins used two spinners, Shahbaz and Abhishek. Shahbaz had not bowled 4 overs in any match before in the whole tournament. Took 2 wickets in all. On the other hand, Abhishek bowled 1 over in only two matches. But yesterday both of them have played.

However, Cummins took the first wicket by sending back opener Tom Kohler-Cudmore (10). But then Shahbaz and Abhishek took 5 consecutive wickets. The pair bowled from the eighth to the 17th consecutive over and brought the match under their control. However, Aiden Markram bowled an over. But he was not successful. Yashasvi Jaiswal (42), Samson (10), Rian Parag (6), Ravichandran Ashwin (0) and Shimran Hetmyer (4) returned to court off Shahbaz-Abhishek. Rajasthan lost the second wicket for 65 runs and lost 6 wickets for 92 runs and got out of the match.

Dhruv Jurel held the crease like gum. However, he couldn’t bring out the match alone. He remained unbeaten in the end by scoring 56 runs off 35 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Shahbaz spent 23 runs for 3 wickets and Abhishek took 2 wickets for 24 runs.

Before batting first, Hyderabad collected 175 runs after losing 9 wickets at the end of the scheduled 20 overs. Heinrich Klaasen scored the maximum 50 runs off 34 balls. Rahul Tripathi scored 37 runs off 15 balls. In the end, Shahbaz Ahmed scored 18 runs from 18 balls. Then the collection was somehow crossed 170 by Hyderabad.

Avesh took 3 wickets for Rajasthan at the cost of 27 runs. Despite taking 3 wickets, Boult was quite scratchy. He gave 45 runs by bowling 4 overs. Sandeep took 2 wickets at the cost of 25 runs.

Rajasthan advanced to the second qualifier after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the eliminator. However, Hyderabad did not allow them to reach the final. Earlier, Orange Army lost their first chance to reach the final after losing against Kolkata Knight Riders in the first qualifier. On May 26, the curtain will come down on the Hyderabad-Kolkata title fight.

IPL Cricket Match Prediction 2024 Final Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad – Let’s see who will win the title May 26

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Match Analysis

Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad will square off in the Indian Premier League 2024 championship game on Sunday at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, Chennai. These teams faced off in the Qualifier 1 last Tuesday, which KKR won handily. They also placed first and second in the group stage. Continue reading for a preview of this game. 19:30 local time is when the final starts.

Since the tournament’s 42nd match, KKR has not dropped a game, and team confidence is quite strong. Despite Phil Salt’s return to the UK interrupting their first partnership, they have a strong successor and will be confident in their prospects of winning this final.

After suffering a crushing defeat in the first qualifier on Tuesday, Sunrisers Hyderabad rallied to get to the final on Friday in Chepauk with a superb effort. They will be extremely difficult to defeat on Sunday because of their reckless style of cricket play.

Kolkata Knight Riders vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Team Preview & Squads

Kolkata Knight Riders

Even though the KKR team is injury-free, there may be some changes made before this final because the conditions in Chepauk are different from those in Ahmedabad during Qualifier 1. Spinners will probably be discussed about both the impact role and the XI.

The all-around player Sunil Narine appears to be a strong contender for Player of the Tournament. In the championship game, he would play unconventional shots but try to attack right away. This season, Shreyas Iyer, the captain, has had an easier time leading some of these guys. He played an outstanding innings in Qualifier 1 to win with 58 not out from 24 balls.

The seasoned left-arm fast Mitchell Starc, who claimed the wickets of Travis Head, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Shahbaz Ahmed on Tuesday, is in excellent form going into the championship match. In Qualifier 1, spinner Varun Chakravarty took two more wickets to his season total. He will be relishing the opportunity to bowl alongside the same guys in this encounter.

Sunrisers Hyderabad

Before or after their Qualifier 2 on Friday, Sunrisers Hyderabad had no concerns about injuries, and we anticipate that the same players will be employed throughout the game as they did against the Rajasthan Royals. The fact that Pat Cummins’ team is playing here in Chepauk on Friday might be advantageous as well.

Heinrich Klaasen, Sunrisers may have easily failed to record a sufficient target if it weren’t for the South African’s runs on Friday. In this IPL, he is averaging 42.09. In the Qualifier 2, Abhishek Sharma, an all-round player, was out after just one over, but not before scoring twelve runs! As demonstrated on Friday when he took 2/24, he will also pose a threat with the ball.

The left-arm fast-medium bowler T Natarajan is a very skilled and astute campaigner. He gave up just 13 runs in his three overs against the Rajasthan Royals and possesses a great variety of slower balls. The game-winning left-arm spin of Shahbaz Ahmed, the impact player, may win the match once more in the finale. He helped with both bat and ball in the victory over Rajasthan.

There are reports that the two teams will play a red soil wicket in the championship match, but the surface for the second qualifier on Friday had an irregular speed.
