T20 WC 2024: Who Will Be the Big Hitters in Nepal vs South Africa, 31st Match

As the T20 World Cup 2024 heats up, the clash between Nepal and South Africa promises to be an exciting encounter. Both teams boast some impressive talent, particularly in the batting department. In this analysis, we will dive into the key players from each side who are expected to be the big hitters in this crucial 31st match of the tournament.

Rohit Paudel (Nepal)

Rohit Paudel is one of Nepal’s most consistent performers in T20Is. With 50 matches under his belt, he has amassed 1,143 runs at an average of 29.30 and a strike rate of 123.70. Paudel has shown his ability to anchor the innings as well as accelerate when needed, with 95 fours and 34 sixes to his name. His record includes six half-centuries, demonstrating his ability to play significant knocks.

In his last outing, Paudel scored 35 runs off 37 balls, which included 5 fours. Although his strike rate of 94.59 in that match was below his career average, it highlights his role in stabilizing the innings for Nepal. He will need to balance caution with aggression, especially against South Africa’s formidable bowling attack.

Kushal Malla (Nepal)

T20 WC 2024: Who Will Be the Big Hitters in Nepal vs South Africa, 31st Match Kushal Malla

Kushal Malla stands out as a vibrant young talent from Nepal, renowned for his aggressive approach to batting. Across 40 T20Is, Malla has amassed 780 runs with an impressive strike rate of 165.95. His highest score of 137 not out underscores his ability to sway matches in his team’s favor. With 43 fours and 60 sixes, Malla’s knack for hitting boundaries swiftly alters the game’s dynamics.

However, in his last match, Malla could only manage 9 runs off 9 balls, hitting just one four. Despite this, his strike rate of 100.00 indicates his intent to score quickly. Against South Africa, Malla’s aggressive approach will be essential for Nepal, especially if they find themselves needing quick runs.

David Miller (South Africa)

David Miller is a seasoned campaigner for South Africa and a key figure in their T20 setup. His record includes two centuries and seven fifties, indicating his capability to play both the finisher’s role and substantial innings.

In his last match, Miller scored 29 runs off 38 balls, including one four and one six. While his strike rate of 76.31 in that match was uncharacteristically low, Miller’s experience and previous performances suggest he can bounce back strongly.

Tristan Stubbs (South Africa)

In his last match, Stubbs had a disappointing performance, scoring 0 runs off 5 balls. Despite this setback, his potential to contribute significantly to the team’s total remains high. Against Nepal, Stubbs will look to showcase his hitting prowess, particularly in the middle overs where his aggressive style can disrupt the opposition’s plans.

Notts Outlaws vs Durham Cricket Match Analysis

This weekend’s matchup between Durham and Notts Outlaws at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge is exciting because it pits two of the North Group’s worst clubs against one another.

Durham has been able to start the season strong with two significant wins. In contrast to the beginning, the team is now in a respectable position after victories over Leicestershire and Birmingham Bears. Notts Outlaws, meanwhile, are still having difficulty and have set up camp at the base of the North Group. The team cannot afford to lose any more games. To earn their first points of the season, the Notts Outlaws will be hoping to capitalize on their stellar head-to-head record versus Durham, which consists of five straight victories.

Notts Outlaws vs Durham Cricket Team Preview & Squads

Notts Outlaws

The 2024 T20 Vitality Blast’s Notts Outlaws are the only team without a point. The club is in a terrible situation as a result of their five straight losses. Throughout the season, the club has had trouble with its batting order; only two of the five games have resulted in a score of 150 or above.

The lone player for Nottinghamshire to score 100 runs or more this season is Jack Haynes. Luckily for his team, a substantial portion of these runs came from the most recent defeat to Lancashire. In the season’s opening match, he scored 45 against Lancashire and 51 against Northamptonshire. Additionally, the latter resulted in Notts’ best partnership (95) of the season.

In the first order, Notts can make a significant improvement. While Joe Clarke’s season-high duck out occurred during the match against Northamptonshire, he has since experienced back-to-back duck outs.

Olly Stone, who has taken nine wickets this season, is one of the team’s best bowlers. He’s been able to contribute some respectable totals with the bat and has taken wickets in each of the last four games.

Durham Cricket

The Durham team’s matchup with Leicestershire ended in a close loss. The team’s run of winning straight up ends with that. Durham, who have now tied with teams like Derbyshire and Birmingham on points, are unlikely to suffer a blow to their morale. Durham has seen several advantages over the past few weeks. The largest is most likely Ashton Turner’s shape. In the past two innings of the 2024 T20 Vitality Blast, he has managed to score 33 and 49 after getting off to a difficult start.

Graham Clark, who batted 53 not out in the match against Leicestershire, left a lasting impression. This batting order and the 31-year-old will feel a lot more confident after faltering in the first two Vitality Blast games.

When it comes to the ball, Ben Raine has been one of Durham’s greatest assets. The 32-year-old is among the leading wicket-takers in the 2024 season with nine wickets under his belt. Ben Green of Somerset, who has taken 13 wickets thus far, is not far behind him. Raine managed to post excellent 5/21, which was a major contributing role in the victory over the Bears.

Oman vs England (Match 28) – Highlights

In this article, we will discuss England’s decisive victory over Oman, which has revitalized their campaign with a commanding performance. After a period of uncertainty and pressure, England’s bowlers routed Oman for a mere 47 runs in 80 balls at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

Given Scotland’s nearly four-point advantage in net run-rate and the potential complexities in Scotland’s final match against Australia, England knew they had to secure a quick victory. Buttler opted to bowl first because he wanted to know the target they were chasing. As it turned out, the target was not substantial.

During the powerplay, England launched their most effective offensive of the competition, setting an aggressive tone. Oman was reduced to a precarious 25 for 4 thanks to Reece Topley’s inquisitive three-over left-arm seam performance, which also claimed two wickets apiece from Jofra Archer and Mark Wood. Rashid then made it 25 for 5 after striking with his opening ball.

However, he set the tone here with an excellent one-run opening over – his first in a T20 World Cup since 2016. Archer soon followed, taking a wicket with his second legal delivery as Pratik Athavale was caught by Phil Salt at short cover.

Archer added a second wicket when Aqib Ilyas hit a catch to Will Jacks at backward point, who held on despite a juggle. Moeen Ali dropped a catch off Zeeshan Maqsood at slip shortly after, but it didn’t matter as Maqsood lobbed a return catch to Wood, who then bowled Kashyap Prajapati with a fast ball after Prajapati had hit a six over cover.

Rashid exploited Oman’s weaknesses brilliantly, delivering four consecutive overs with a wicket in each and allowing just one boundary. His first wicket was a dramatic legbreak that beat Khalid Kail’s sweep and required two attempts from Buttler to complete the stumping.

Moeen made up for his earlier drop by catching Mehran Khan off Rashid Following that, Wood claimed his 50th T20I wicket when Ayaan Khan was edged by a quick delivery. Rashid bowled Fayyaz Butt with a googly for his third wicket, and he did the same with his penultimate ball to remove Kaleemullah. Oman were left at 47 for 9. Archer then returned to complete the rout by getting Shoaib Khan to mis-hit, with Buttler taking the final catch.

With a commanding performance against an outmatched Oman, England has stormed back into the competition after a period of fear and uncertainty. At the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, they quickly destroyed their opponents, bowling them out for just 47 runs in just 80 balls.

The statistics indicated that England needed to finish the match within 5.2 overs to surpass Scotland’s net run-rate. Phil Salt’s three-ball 12 suggested a much quicker finish might be possible, as he hit Bilal Khan’s first two balls for six. However, Salt was bowled by the third delivery.

The rest of the chase was calm yet decisive. Will Jacks hit a boundary off a no-ball but fell shortly after. Jonny Bairstow began with a boundary on his first ball, while Buttler hammered Bilal with four fours and a six in the second over. Bairstow finished the game swiftly with another boundary.

They then needed only 19 balls to chase down the total, significantly boosting their net run-rate. Adil Rashid led an exceptional four-pronged bowling attack with figures of 4 for 11, before Jos Buttler sealed the victory with a rapid 24 not out from eight deliveries.

Papua New Guinea vs. Afghanistan (Match 29) – Highlights

In this article, we will delve into the thrilling encounter between Afghanistan and Papua New Guinea (PNG) at Tarouba, which determined Afghanistan’s progression to the Super Eight stage of the men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Afghanistan’s commanding seven-wicket victory over PNG, orchestrated by a formidable bowling performance and a composed run chase, secured their spot in the next round.

Afghanistan secured their spot in the Super Eight stage of the men’s T20 World Cup 2024 with a convincing seven-wicket victory over Papua New Guinea (PNG) at Tarouba. The win was facilitated by a devastating new-ball display from fast bowlers Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq, who collectively dismantled PNG’s top order, claiming five wickets within the powerplay. Additionally, PNG’s woes were compounded by four run-outs, contributing to their dismissal for a modest 95 runs.

Papua New Guinea (PNG) began their innings against Afghanistan with hopes of setting a competitive total. However, their top-order batsmen struggled right from the start. Tony Ura, their opener, managed only 11 runs off 18 balls before being dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq.

Assad Vala, Lega Siaka, and Sese Bau swiftly followed suit, all departing without making significant contributions to the scoreboard. By the conclusion of the powerplay, PNG was in a precarious position at 30 for 5.

As the innings progressed, PNG’s middle-order pairing of Chad Soper and Kiplin Doriga attempted to stabilize the innings, adding 16 runs cautiously over 24 balls. However, their partnership was short-lived as a lapse in communication led to Soper being run out in the tenth over. Doriga, resilient in his approach, utilized sweep shots effectively against Afghanistan’s spinners Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad.

In the middle overs, Kiplin Doriga put up some resistance and scored a vital 27 runs off of 32 deliveries. His 13-run combination with Alei Nao helped PNG’s innings to momentarily stabilize. But throughout, PNG was under pressure from Afghanistan’s bowling assault, which was led by three-wicket man Fazalhaq Farooqi and backed by Naveen-ul-Haq and Noor Ahmad.

Despite Neo’s late efforts to score off the seamers, PNG struggled to accelerate their innings. Doriga’s dismissal to Noor Ahmad marked the beginning of the end for PNG, as they lost their last three wickets for just seven runs. The Papua New Guinea team struggled to build partnerships or accelerate the scoring rate, eventually being bowled out for 95 runs in 19.5 overs.

Chasing a target of 96 runs, Afghanistan started cautiously but lost Ibrahim Zadran early in the innings. Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the other opener Ibrahim Zadran, showed intent with a quick 11 runs off 7 balls before falling victim to Alei Nao. However, Gulbadin Naib steadied the ship with a composed innings, anchoring the chase brilliantly.

Naib’s unbeaten 49 off 36 deliveries included 4 boundaries and 2 sixes, showcasing his ability to rotate strike and find gaps in the field. Despite losing a couple of wickets in the middle overs, Afghanistan maintained control over the chase. With the help of Mohammad Nabi’s 16 runs without a loss and Azmatullah Omarzai’s 13 runs, Afghanistan easily reached the mark in 15.1 overs.

Afghanistan’s victory was a testament to their disciplined bowling and solid batting performance under pressure. Fazalhaq Farooqi’s early breakthroughs and economical bowling set the tone for Afghanistan’s dominance. They managed to capitalize on Papua New Guinea’s batting struggles and secured a convincing 7-wicket win with 29 balls to spare.

Afghanistan comfortably chased down the target with 29 balls to spare, with Gulbadin Naib anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 49. The result was particularly significant as it marked the first time since 2014 that New Zealand failed to progress beyond the group stage in a men’s World Cup, be it ODI or T20 format.
