Northern Superchargers vs Oval Invincibles (Match 12) – Highlights

In this article, we will discuss the exciting clash between the Northern Superchargers and the Oval Invincibles in the Hundred. With a blistering half-century, Nicholas Pooran gave the Northern Superchargers the momentum they needed to win the event two times in a row. The Kia Oval enjoyed a superb display by the Superchargers and a standout performance from Pooran.. The main points, noteworthy performances, and the effect on the rankings of both teams are highlighted in this article.

With Nicholas Pooran hitting an explosive 65 off 41 balls and Ollie Robinson scoring a rapid 20 off 10 balls, the Superchargers scored 145/5 off their 100 balls while batting first.

In response, the Oval Invincibles struggled to build momentum, finishing at 126/9. The Superchargers’ bowlers, led by Jordan Clark, Dillon Pennington, and Matthew Potts, kept the Invincibles in check, while spinners Mitchell Santner, Adil Rashid, and Matt Short ensured there were no easy runs. Despite a valiant effort from Donovan Ferreira, who scored 49 off 24 balls, the Invincibles fell short, handing the Superchargers a well-deserved victory.

Nicholas Pooran was once again the hero, delivering his second consecutive explosive half-century to lead Andrew Flintoff’s Northern Superchargers to back-to-back victories in the Hundred. Playing before a crowd of 24,160 enthusiastic fans at the Kia Oval, Pooran continued the day’s theme of the Superchargers crashing the party and dominating the boundary, following the women’s team’s equally emphatic win earlier.

These wins shattered the unbeaten streaks of both Oval Invincibles teams, opening up the competition in both the men’s and women’s tournaments. Pooran’s commanding 65 came off just 41 balls, featuring four massive sixes, as he guided his team from a tricky start to post 145 from their 100 balls.

While most struggled to find the boundary, Pooran made it look easy, and Ollie Robinson’s quickfire 20 from 10 balls added crucial late runs to set a competitive total.

The Superchargers’ bowlers kept a tight grip on the Invincibles’ chase, with Jordan Clark, Dillon Pennington, and Matthew Potts delivering economical spells. The fielding unit also excelled, with Adam Hose and Mitchell Santner taking sharp catches in the deep.

Santner, along with spinners Adil Rashid and Matt Short, supported the seamers effectively, stifling the Invincibles’ middle order. This trio of spinners ensured there were no easy runs, leaving the home team with no room to maneuver. Despite the fading hopes of the home team, Donovan Ferreira’s 24-ball 49, featuring five sixes, briefly injected life into the chase. His aggressive and entertaining knock seemed poised to turn the game around until he was dismissed by Potts.

Ferreira’s effort stood out as the only innings of note, as no other player surpassed 20 in a lackluster chase.

Sri Lanka vs India | 2nd ODI | Cricket Prediction | August 04, 2024 – Let’s see who will win the 2nd ODI.

SL vs IND Match Analysis

The ODI series began with an exciting draw at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, thanks to an outstanding all-around performance by the hosts Sri Lanka. Charith Asalanka, leading Sri Lanka in ODI cricket for the first time, produced a thrilling end by dismissing Shivam Dube and No. 11 Arshdeep Singh with consecutive deliveries in a nail-biting finale. The second One-Day International (ODI) of the three-match series, now tied 0-0, will occur on August 4 at 2:30 pm at R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

At one point in the series, Sri Lanka was 101 for 5, batting first. However, all-rounder Dunith Welalage took matters into his own hands and led Sri Lanka to 230 runs after losing eight wickets with a score of 67 runs off 65 balls. In addition to Welalage, Pathum Nissanka, the opener, amassed a creditable fifty-score.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the T20I World Cup winning team, scored a half-century early on after hitting seven fours and three sixes after a brief pause. Then, in an attempt to put India on the defensive, Welalage sent him and Shubhman Gill back to the pavilion. To tie the match in the 48th over, Sri Lankan spinners Wanindu Hasaranga and Asalanka each claimed three wickets.

Both teams tied each other in this back-to-back match. However, it seemed like a win for Sri Lanka. They last triumphed over India in 2021.

SL vs IND Team Preview & Squads

Sri Lanka

With the efforts of their bowling and batting units, Sri Lanka should have a lot of confidence after beating Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh this year. Avishka Fernando and Pathum Nissanka will start the inning. Since the beginning of 2023, Pathum Nissanka has amassed more runs than any other batter in the ODIs. Since then, he has amassed 1704 runs, five centuries, and ten half-centuries. With a strike rate of more than 120, he has amassed the most ODI runs this year with 553. At the top, though, Fernando is having trouble—just 252 runs in 19 innings.

Kusal Mendis is slated to rank third. Since 2023, he has amassed 1257 runs and nine half-centuries. Asalanka, Samarwickrama, and Janith Liyanage will be positioned in the center. With two centuries and twelve half-centuries between them, Samarwickrama and Asalanka had amassed more than a thousand runs since the previous year. The fact that the trio averages less than 15 versus India is the main problem with the middle order.

Wanindu Hasaranga, Akila Dananjaya, and Dunith Welalage will form the bowling unit’s leadership team. With 67 runs at bat and two wickets taken with the ball in the first ODI, Welalage was named player of the match. After five innings, he has taken seven wickets against India. After going without a wicket in the previous three games against India, Hasaranga eventually claimed three wickets, becoming their top wicket-taker since 2023. In the previous 21 games, the leg-spinner has claimed 48 wickets at an economy of 5.19. He is going to be the bowler to be cautious of. Maheesh Theeksana could replace Mohamed Shiraz due to the spin-friendly course.

India

Rohit Sharma, the captain, is still enthused about the T20s. He scored 58 runs in 47 deliveries, slamming the Sri Lankan bowling attack everywhere. Shubhman Gill will be his opening act. With 361 runs in 7 innings, Gill has an average of above 60 against Sri Lanka. The first game saw a sluggish innings from Virat Kohli. However, his relationship with Sri Lanka has a strong past. Kohli has amassed 2618 runs against the home team in 52 innings, including 10 hundreds and 12 half-centuries.

Washington Sunder, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer will be in the middle. Rahul began the previous year with 1091 runs at an average of 64.17. Conversely, Iyer has scored 869 runs at an average of 51.11 across 20 innings in the same time frame. In addition to Sundar, India will also have two other all-rounders. Even though the three have only claimed 13 wickets since 2023, Sundar and Patel pose a threat to Sri Lanka’s batting lineup given the spin-friendly surface.

Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj will spearhead the pace attack. Since 2023, Siraj has taken 45 wickets in 25 innings at an economy of 5.25, making him the second-highest wicket-taker for India. He’s taken 20 wickets against Sri Lanka in the last 7 One-Day Internationals, averaging 9.66. To watch out for will be bowler Kuldeep Yadav. Having taken 50 wickets at an economy of 4.55 during the previous year, he leads India’s bowling statistics.

The team defending the objective has prevailed 88 times in 165 ODIs. However, the last six games have been chased here four times out of six. The side that wins the toss should bowl first since the spin becomes heavier as the innings go on.

It is expected to rain in Colombo for the next three days. It will be a gloomy and humid day. There will be a 26–29°C temperature range.

The pitch at R. Premadasa Stadium is renowned for being bowler-friendly, which can help spinners as the game goes on.
