On September 24, in Tarouba, the 26th game of the 2024 Caribbean Premier League took place. The St Lucia Kings easily defeated the Trinbago Knight Riders, winning by an inning. Johnson Charles, who was voted Player of the Match, scored an incredible 89 from 40 balls to help the Kings achieve a mammoth total of 218/6. In reply, the Knight Riders failed to muster much of an offensive and were dismissed for 138 in 17.5 overs, well short of the 219-run mark. With a significant victory, the Kings’ impressive performance enhanced their standing in the competition.

Batting first, the St Lucia Kings put up an imposing total of 218/6 in their 20 overs, led by a brilliant display of power-hitting from Johnson Charles and Faf du Plessis. Charles played an explosive knock, smashing 89 off just 40 balls, including seven boundaries and eight towering sixes at an extraordinary strike rate of 222.50. Faf du Plessis, the captain, provided a steady foundation with 59 off 43 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 137.20. Tim Seifert contributed a quickfire 30 from 17 deliveries, maintaining the momentum. David Wiese (6 off 4) and Roston Chase (4 off 6) fell cheaply, but Aaron Jones added 8* from 5 balls towards the end. Shadrack Descarte blasted 10 from 4 balls, including a six, to push the total further. The Kings’ aggressive batting set a daunting target for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the high-scoring match.
