Galle Titans and B-Love Kandy met in the fifth match of the Lanka Premier League 2023. Batting first in that match, Galle Titans set a good target in the allotted 20 overs. But the players of B-Love Candy could not reach the target as the scheduled 20 overs were over. As a result, they left the field with a huge loss of 83 runs. On the other hand, Tim Seifert won the man-of-the-match title with great batting for Gale Titans.
Dasun Shanaka, captain of the Galle Titans, won the toss and chose to bat first, inviting B-Love Candy to bowl. Galle Titans lost three wickets for 60 runs in 9.2 overs while batting first. The run rate was likewise subpar. A total of 140 appeared to be a challenge. But Shakib Al Hasan and Tim Seifert helped to change that. In the end, they set a target of 181 runs with 21 runs extra.
Amer Jamal, Mohammad Hasnain, and skipper Wanindu Hasaranga took 1 wicket each for B-Love Candy. The most expensive bowler for them was Aamer Jamal, who conceded 43 runs in 3 overs.
Candy batted down to a target of 181 runs in response and was dismissed for 97 runs in 17.1 overs.
Candy’s pursuit of the goal was a shambles from the start. In 5 overs, Wanindu Hasaranga’s team lost 4 wickets for 26 runs. Shakib increased the pressure on the underperforming team. On the opening ball of his first over, he sent Asif Ali back. Shakib then claimed his second wicket by bowling Amer Jamal with an arm ball in the final delivery of his third over. Then, Candy was knocked out of the game after losing 7 wickets for 63 runs. In this match, six of Kandy’s first eight batters failed to reach double figures.
Ashen Bandara scored the maximum 27 runs. He hit 1 four and 2 sixes in 19 balls. Isuru Udana scored 16 runs off 12 balls with the help of 3 fours. Thakuna Dabare scored 12 runs. Two golden ducks were scored by Dinesh Chandimal and Mohammad Hasnain. Besides, Kamindu Mendis scored 3 runs, Angelo Mathews scored 2 runs, Captain Wanindu Hasranga scored 9 runs from 7 balls, Asif Ali scored 3 runs from 8 balls, and Amer Jamal scored only 6 runs from 22 balls.
