PCB’s new chief selector is Haroon Rashid

PCB’s new chief selector is Haroon Rashid

Shahid Afridi was given the charge of the chief selector by the Pakistan Cricket Board ahead of the series against New Zealand. This was the first move by PCB’s new chairman, Najam Shetty, after taking charge. But Afridi stepped down from the role of chief selector after Pakistan’s series against New Zealand. Harun Rashid is the new chief selector of PCB.

After the New Zealand series, Afridi was offered a long-term contract by the PCB. But this former captain of Pakistan did not agree to take this responsibility. Afridi said, “It was a great honour for me to take over the responsibility of the Pakistan Board as the Chief Selector. The PCB wanted to extend my term as the Chief Selector after discussing it with me. But personally, I cannot spend so much time on the Board. Besides charity, I have spoken in various places.  However, I would like to work on the development of cricketers at the U-19 level in the future. For now, I cannot devote the time required to fulfil the duties of the Chief Selector.”

As Afridi did not agree, this time PCB gave the responsibility to another former Pakistani cricketer Harun Rashid. Harun Rashid told reporters in Lahore last Monday. Harun is a trusted person of Najam Shetty. He was one of the members of the management committee before taking over as chief selector. And he will resign from this committee after getting the responsibility of chief selector. It is said that the remaining members of the selection committee will be decided later.

Haroon Rashid has been associated with Pakistan cricket in various activities before. He has served as chief selector before. He originally served on the board from 2015 to 2016. He was also in charge of coaching the Pakistan team. He has also served as Team Manager, and Board High-Performance Director. Sethi congratulated Haroon on giving him the role of Chief Selector. He said, “Congratulations to Haroon Rashid. He has contributed to the country’s cricket in the past, hopefully, he will leave his mark on the country’s cricket this time as well. We all hope that he will contribute to the country’s cricket by selecting the right squad for the next series of Pakistan”.

It should be noted that Haroon Rashid played 23 Tests and 12 ODIs in Pakistan’s jersey from 1977 to 1983. In Test cricket, he scored 34 runs at an average of 1217. He has 166 runs at an average of 20.75 in ODI cricket. Meanwhile, many have expressed hope that Pakistan cricket will move forward with Harun’s hand. Many former and current cricketers have already congratulated him for being the chief selector.
