Pakistan vs South Africa (Match 26) – Highlights

The excitement was breathtaking at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Because Pakistan needed one wicket, while South Africa needed 11 runs to get a victory. Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi were on the wicket. In the end, the Proteas moved slowly to pick up 11 runs. South Africa left the field with a one-wicket win against Pakistan.

As a result of this victory, the Proteas have ascended to the top of the points table. After 6 matches, 10 points are next to their name. Host India also has 10 points, but they played 5 matches. However, they are behind South Africa in net run rate. The opposite is the case with Babar Azam’s teams. They have 4 points after playing 6 matches. The loss against the Proteas has taken them closer to being knocked out of the tournament.

Chasing a challenging target of 271 runs, South Africa picked up 11 runs in the first over. Quinton de Kock single-handedly scored 19 runs in the second over bowled by Shaheen Afridi. He scored 24 runs off 14 balls and was dismissed for the team’s 34 runs. Temba Bavuma scored 28 runs and departed after raising a catch off Mohammad Wasim Jr.

Rassie van der Dussen scored 21 runs. The in-form Heinrich Klaasen was dismissed for just 12 runs. Then Aiden Markram kept the run wheel going with David Miller. Although Miller departed after playing an innings of 29 runs, Markram continued to guide the team in the right direction. Marco Jansen scored 20 runs.

Markram was out on the brink of a century. He was dismissed by Usama Mir after scoring 91 runs off 93 balls. His innings had 7 fours and 3 sixes. However, when Gerald Coetzee (10) returned to the dressing room, the match was completely alive. Shaheen’s ball found the edge of his bat and went to Mohammad Rizwan. South African score then was standing on 250 runs.

Lungi Ngidi scored 4 important runs for the team. Haris Rauf dismissed him with a great delivery, and Ngidi was caught by Haris himself. The Proteas then came under more pressure. But Maharaj and Shamsi ensured the team’s victory by playing coolly on the last wicket. Maharaj scored 7 and Shamsi put up 4 runs. For Pakistan, Shaheen Afridi took the highest number of 3 wickets and Mohammad Wasim, Haris Rauf, and Usama Mir took 2 wickets each.

Earlier in the team performance Pakistan scored 270 runs in 46.4 overs losing all the wickets. Saud Shakeel got 52, Babar scored 50, Shadab Khan made 43, Rizwan’s collection was 31, Mohammad Nawaz and Iftikhar Ahmed scored 24 and 21 runs respectively for the Men in Green. Spinner Shamsi took the maximum number of 4 wickets for the Proteas. Apart from this, Marco Jansen scalped 3 wickets, Gerald Coetzee 2 wickets and Lungi Ngidi took 1 wicket for the victorious side.

Pakistan’s two openers departed within 38 runs of the team. Abdullah Shafique scored 9 runs and Imam-ul-Haq scored 12 runs. Babar and Rizwan held on to the pressure. Rizwan became aggressive by playing some amazing shots. De Kock caught him after as he nicked the bat on Coetzee’s bouncer. When Rizwan departed, Babar concentrated on building up an innings with Iftikhar.

Iftikhar was caught by Klaasen near the boundary while trying to hit a six in the team’s 129-run lead. After a while, Babar also departed. He hit 4 fours and a six off 65 balls. After losing 5 wickets, Pakistan scored 84 runs with the bat of Shadab and Shakeel. Shadab, who was playing aggressively, got out due to the wrong shot selection. He hit 3 fours and 2 sixes facing 36 balls.

However, Shakeel picked up a half-century. After he got out, the next batters managed to put 11 more runs on the scoreboard. In the end, Pakistan’s innings stopped at 270 runs.
