Every season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) starts with controversy. Various activities on the field and outside the field are heavily criticized. This time during the match there was also an incident like smoking in the dressing room. However, not a cricketer, Khulna Tigers coach Khaled Mahmud Sujan smoked in the dressing room. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has punished him for this.

Sujan has been fined 30 percent of the match fee for violating BCB Code of Conduct Level-1. He could not pass only by paying the fine. Two demerit points are also added next to the name. Sujan has been punished by BCB based on the complaint of the match referees. He understood the crime and accepted the punishment. Therefore no further formal hearing was required.

 

BCB has created a new history by punishing Sujan. There is no precedent of punishing any board director before this. Although the former cricketer has accepted the punishment of the board. He said that he accidentally smoked during the excitement of the match. Khulna’s coach apologizes to everyone for his mistake. Sujan also promised not to repeat such incidents in the future.

 

Meanwhile, on the day Sujan was punished, BCB punished three more cricketers. They are – Mosaddek Hossain Saikat of Comilla Victorians, Sheikh Mehdi Hasan of Rangpur Riders and Nicholas Pooran. Mehdi was fined 25 percent of the match fee for wild cheers after defeating Fortune Barisal in the eliminator match. A demerit point has also been added next to his name.

 

Pooran was also accused of violating the code of conduct in the same match. Besides being fined 50 percent of the match fee, two demerit points were added. Besides, Mosaddek violated the code of conduct in the qualifier match against Sylhet Strikers. He was fined 25 percent of the match fee and given one demerit point. All three of them have accepted BCB’s punishment. Therefore, there was no need for a separate hearing
