India posted 180 for 7 in 19.3 overs in the second T20I at St George’s Park on Tuesday (December 12) in a rain-hit match. The target for the Proteas on the DL method was 152 runs. By winning this match, the hosts took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The previous match of the series was abandoned due to rain.

South Africa got off to a great start in the run chase. In the first two overs, the opening pair of Reza Hendricks and Matthew Breetzke picked up 38 runs. Breetzke, who scored 16 runs off 7 balls, had to return to the pavilion in the next over with a runout. Aiden Markram played a devastating innings of 30 runs off 17 balls. Reza was the victim of Kuldeep Yadav’s at the team’s 108 runs. He scored 49 runs off 27 balls.

Heinrich Klaasen could not do justice to the name on this day. Still, South Africa came close to winning. David Miller’s innings of 17 runs from 12 balls took the Proteas closer to victory. Tristan Stubbs scored 14 and Andile Phehlukwayo scored 10 runs. 

Mukesh Kumar took 2 wickets for India. Mohammad Siraj and Kuldeep got one wicket each.

India did not get off to a good start after losing the toss in the rain-hit match. The visitors lost the two openers in just 6 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal tried to bat aggressively from the start, but this time he was caught by David Miller off Marco Jansen in the first over of the match. Shubman Gill was then lbw by Lizaad Williams in the second over of the match. Neither Yashasvi nor Shubman could open the account of runs. 

After that, Tilak Barma and Suryakumar Yadav led the innings. Tilak Burma scored 29 runs off 20 balls with 4 fours and a six. Rinku accompanied Suryakumar at the crease after Tilak. 70 runs came in the pair of the two. Tabraiz Shamsi stopped Surya who scored 56 runs off 36 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. On the other side, Rinku spread the heat. On this day, he saw the first fifty of his international career. In the end, he remained unbeaten on 68 runs. Ravindra Jadeja accompanied him to increase the team’s collection by scoring 19 runs off 14 balls.

Gerald Coetzee took the maximum 3 wickets at the cost of 32 runs for the Proteas. Marco Jansen, Lizaad Williams, Shamsi, and Aiden Markram took 1 wicket each.
