Finally, Bangladesh got the desired T20I win on New Zealand soil. The Tigers succeeded in the tenth match after losing nine T20Is against New Zealand.
Bangladesh and hosts New Zealand will meet in Napier on Wednesday (December 27). Tiger captain Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and decided to bowl first. The Kiwis fell into disaster after batting. In the end, the team scored 134 runs, losing 9 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. In response, Bangladesh won by losing 5 wickets in 18.4 overs.
This victory of Bangladesh was much awaited. Earlier, the Tigers ended their ODI series win drought on Kiwi soil. However, Bangladesh had to gain some momentum to win the T20I. Chasing an easy target of 135 runs, they lost 2 wickets in 5 overs.
After that, when Soumya Sarkar, Towhid Hridoy, and Afif Hossain were out, the Tigers were knocked out of the match. However, wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das brought victory to the team with responsible batting keeping one end.
Before this, Mahedi Hasan bowled Tim Seifert who could not open the run book after playing 3 balls in the first over of the first innings of the match. Only 1 run came in that over. Shoriful Islam showed surprise in the second over.
Kiwi batsman Finn Allen failed to get a runoff on Shoriful’s first ball. And he gave the catch to Soumya on the second ball. Both openers were dismissed for 1 run. The third ball of the over hits Glenn Phillips directly on his pads. If the umpire does not give out, Bangladesh takes a review. Later the TV umpire declared him lbw. Phillips returned to the dressing room without opening the account of the run.
Daryl Mitchell and Mark Chapman tried to handle the shock after the fall of 3 wickets in 1 run. However, Mahedi did not allow them to stay for long. He ended this pair by bowling Mitchell who scored 14 runs off 15 balls. On the other hand, Chapman was still trying to maintain the pace of the run. However, Chapman, who scored 19 runs off 19 balls, was caught by Tanzim Sakib and sent to the dressing room by Rishad Hossain.
As a result, the Kiwis lost 5 wickets to score 50 runs. James Neesham has stood alone as a shield in times of danger for the team. One by one his teammates departed but he kept the run book going by hitting four-sixes. But in the end, Mustafizur Rahman stopped him. Neesham left with 48 runs off 29 balls hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes.
After that several missed field incidents were seen in the match. Bangladesh also missed two catches. In the end, thanks to Adam Milne’s innings of 16 runs from 12 balls, the collection of Black Caps stood at 134 runs for 9 wickets. Shoriful took the maximum of 3 wickets for Bangladesh. Besides, Mahedi and Mustafiz took 2 wickets and Tanzim and Rishad took 1 wicket each.
Batting in response to 135 runs, Bangladesh lost wickets in the second over. Rony Talukdar threw the ball in the air while pulling the ball from Adam Milne. The catch went to Tim Southee as he couldn’t do the timing. And in that, Bangladesh lost the first wicket for the team’s 13 runs. Rony scored 10 runs off 7 balls.
After that, Najmul started well, but he returned to the dressing room after scoring 19 runs off 14 balls. After that, Soumya made a partnership of 29 runs from 22 balls with Litton. But he missed the line off Ben Sears in 8.4 overs. The ball hit the wicket directly. As a result, Soumya returned to the pavilion by scoring 22 runs in 15 balls for the team’s 67 runs.
After Soumya, Towhid also returned to the dressing room with hope. He scored 19 runs off 18 balls. And Afif Hossain’s bad out puts the team in danger. At the crucial moment, Afif got out by scoring 1 run. But in the end, the opener Litton left the field after confirming the victory with Mahedi. Litton was unbeaten on 42 off 36 balls with the help of 2 fours and 1 six. And Mahedi was unbeaten with 19 runs off 16 balls.
