Over the past few years in Bangladesh cricket, Nazmul Hossain Shanto has been the most criticized. He has been dropped from the team at various times due to his off form. But every time he was brought back into the team, the selectors faced heavy criticism. Many cricket fans also call him Lord Shanto for his inconsistent performances. Minhajul Abedin Nannu, chief selector of the Bangladesh team, thinks that Shanto is repaying the trust of the selectors.
Shanto is playing for Sylhet Strikers in this season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The left-handed opener was in good form from the start of the tournament. Scored runs consistently with the bat. The consistency which is not seen in the national team. This time it is not only Shantar’s bat that is smiling. He also brought victory to his team. So, Chief Selector is praising him.
Expressing satisfaction with Shanto’s performance, Nannu said, “We have always had faith in him (Shanto). He is performing well now because of everyone’s trust. He is now repaying everyone’s trust. We knew he would come back to run. To maintain this consistency If he can, it will be good for the country. Now he is ready to give his best in international cricket.”
Nannu wants to see not only Shanto but also other cricketers in the long process. He also said, “If any cricketer performs well, I like it. But whoever is included in the national team, there is criticism. But we want those who come to play for the country, to come to play for a long time. Shanto is doing well now. He will also be seen in this form in the team’s jersey.”
It should be noted that Shanto became the highest run scorer in this year’s BPL. He is also the best cricketer of the tournament. He has played for Sylhet in all the matches of the group stage. He played a vital role with the bat at the back as his team made it to the play-offs. In a recent interview, Shanto expressed his hope to drag this form of BPL into the national team. Meanwhile, netizens are praising Shanto on social media for his consistent runs in BPL.
