The dominance of Dhoni-Kohli in 22 yards of the field is not unknown to the cricket world. One was known as ‘Captain Cool’ and the other as ‘aggressive captain’ but their chemistry on and off the field was very much enjoyed by cricket lovers. Evidence of their friendship has come forward at various times. Kohli also revealed how Dhoni stood by him in bad times. Dhoni is the only person outside Kohli’s family who has given courage to his teammate in bad times.
Kohli has gone through a very bad period since being out of form. Kohli had to fight for runs. He has also been subjected to severe criticism. Kohli desperately needed someone to put his hand on his shoulder and give him some confidence, which he didn’t get. But Dhoni stood by. And King Kohli was inspired by Captain Cool’s words.
Dhoni, who is not easily available on the phone, was the one who contacted Kohli at his bad times. Reminiscing on past memories, Kohli said in a recent interview, “He speaks to me on the phone. You don’t get him that easily. 99 percent of the time you call him, he doesn’t pick up your phone. Because he doesn’t look at the phone. But that Dhoni calls me. He told me, “When you’re expected to be strong and you’re seen as a strong person, people forget to ask, how are you? Are you good or bad? It’s up to you to take care of yourself.”
Kohli remembered Dhoni’s words very much. He added, “Dhoni’s words really shocked me. I have always been shown a little differently. Someone who is very confident, mentally strong, someone who can take any kind of criticism, someone who can break new ground. I have been shown that way. It would be the person who can find the way and show the way. At some point in life, it may be necessary to take a few steps back. That’s when you really understand how good you are mentally.”
It should be noted that Virat Kohli and Mahendra Singh Dhoni played together for 11 years from 2008 to 2019. Kohli started his career under Dhoni’s captaincy, but later Dhoni ended his career under Kohli’s captaincy. But cricket lovers still miss this pair in 22 yards. The relationship between the two is still great.
