Kolkata Knight Riders were flying after winning 3 matches in a row. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings have lost their last two matches. They felt the lack of two pacers Mathisha Pathirana and Mustafizur Rahman. Mustafiz returned to the team in the match with Kolkata. Chennai also changed like magic. In that match, Chennai won easily by holding strong Kolkata to a narrow margin.
On Monday, April 8, Chennai Super Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets at the M Chidambaram Stadium. Batting earlier, Kolkata got a modest collection of 137 runs after losing 9 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs under the shocking performance of Rabindra Jadeja and Mustafizur Rahman. In reply, Chennai reached the port of victory with 14 balls and 7 wickets rely on captain Ruturaj Gaikwad’s half-century.
Rachin Ravindra gave Chennai a storming start even though Chepuk’s slow wicket was not that helpful for the batting. Before getting out in 3.2 overs, Gaikwad collected 27 runs on the team’s scoreboard. Rachin was dismissed by Vaibhav Arora after scoring 15 runs off 8 balls.
After Rachin’s departure, Daryl Mitchell took charge of the game with the bat. On the other hand, captain Gaikwad was playing cautiously. The pair added 70 runs off 55 balls. Sunil Narine broke the pair by bowling out Mitchell who scored 25 runs off 19 balls.
Chennai skipper Gaikwad scored a half-century in 45 balls. On the other hand, Shivam Dube kept playing on the wicket. However, he was bowled by Vaibhav Arora while they were 3 runs away from victory. He scored 28 runs off 18 balls with 1 four and 3 sixes. Gaikwad ended up unbeaten on 67 off 58 balls with 9 fours. In the end, Dhoni accompanied him with 1 run from 3 balls.
For Kolkata, Vaibhav Arora took 2 wickets with 28 runs in 4 overs. Sunil Narine got the remaining wicket.
Earlier, Kolkata lost their wicket on the first ball while batting. But Sunil Narine was giving the storm that day. But Ravindra Jadeja gave Kolkata a double blow by returning Narine who scored 27 runs from 20 balls and Angkrish Raghuvanshi who scored 24 runs from 18 balls. After that, Kolkata’s run rate decreased. Along with that, they keep losing wickets at regular intervals.
In between, Theekshana and Tushar Deshpande took wickets one after the other. However, despite bowling well, Mustafizur Rahman could not see the wicket.
Finally, Mustafiz got success by playing the last over for himself and the team. Kolkata captain Shreyas Iyer returned in the first ball of that over. He became Jadeja’s 100th catch by scoring 34 runs off 32 balls. Then Mustafiz returned Mitchell Starc in the fourth ball of that over.
Jadeja took 3 wickets with 18 runs in 4 overs for Chennai. Deshpande also took the same wicket with 33 runs. Mustafiz took 2 wickets with 22 runs in 4 overs. Theekshana got the remaining wicket.

Chennai Super Kings – 141/3 (17.4)
Result – Chennai Super Kings won by 7 wickets.
