Jason Roy’s devastating innings helped Quetta Gladiators to get a massive 8-wicket victory over Peshawar Zalmi in the 25th match of PSL 2023 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Jason Roy was adjudged player of the match for his match-winning innings of unbeaten 145 off 63 balls, he smashed 20 fours and 5 sixes to play this glorious inning.

After winning the toss, Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam elected to bat first sending Quetta Gladiators to bowl. Peshawar Zalmi collected a mammoth total of 240 runs after losing 2 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, Quetta Gladiators reached the port of victory losing only 2 wickets in 18.2 overs.

Opener Jason Roy played a key role in the team’s victory. Mainly due to his one-man show innings, Quetta Gladiators crossed this huge target with 10 balls in hand. Chasing the target, Jason Roy and Martin Guptill brought up a flying start for the team.

In the 3rd over of the innings, Guptill returned to the pavilion after playing a stormy inning of 21 runs off 8 balls (3 fours and 1 six), but Jason Roy continued to strike hard at the other end of the wicket. As a result, they picked up 88 runs after losing only one wicket in six overs of the power play. Jason Roy was accompanied by Will Smeed. He could not play any devastating innings but played a useful inning in the team’s victory.

These two put on a great partnership of 109 runs off just 49 balls for the 2nd wicket. As a result, the team reached the milestone of 150 runs in 11.5 overs. But Smeed returned to the dressing room with the last ball of the 12th over. His innings of 26 facing 22 balls included 1 four and 2 sixes.

Then experienced batsman Mohammad Hafeez came to the wicket to accompany Jason Roy. He came and left the field after playing an unbeaten inning of 41 runs off 18 balls. His innings were studded with 6 fours as well as 2 sixes. On the other hand, Jason Roy scored a 44-ball century on the first ball of the 14th over. After that, he also left the field unbeaten scoring 145 runs and bringing the team to the port of victory.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Wahab Riaz took 1 wicket each for Peshawar Zalmi. Earlier, the two openers of Peshawar Zalmi, Saim Ayub and Babar Azam got off to a great start coming down to bat first. In the opening pair, these two picked up 162 runs in 13.3 overs. Hitting 6 fours and 5 sixes, Saim returned to the dressing room as a victim to Dwaine Pretorius while his score was 74 off 34 balls.

However, captain Babar picked up his century and returned to the pavilion. He scored a 60-ball century with a four in the 18th over. In the end, he played a remarkable inning of 115 runs playing 65 balls (15 fours and 3 sixes) and returned to the pavilion after being run out on the first ball of the last over.

However, Rovman Powell, who accompanied Babar, also played an effective inning. That is why Peshawar Zalmi was able to give a challenging target of 241 runs in the end. Powell scored an unbeaten 35 off 18 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. Besides, Tom Kohler-Cadmore remained unbeaten scoring 7 runs from 3 balls.

Quetta Gladiators have got up to the 5th position in the points table with three wins and six losses playing nine matches. On the other hand, Peshawar Zalmi is now in the 4th position in the points table with four wins and four losses taking part in eight matches.
