Delhi Capitals (DC) set a target of 258 runs against Mumbai Indians (MI). Although it was difficult, it was not impossible at all. In the previous match, Punjab Kings (PBKS) won by chasing Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) 262 runs. But Mumbai Indians could not, they had to lose by 10 runs.
Despite Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya being set at the wicket MI did not get the win in the end. They managed to score 247 runs for 9 wickets on Saturday (April 27). Captain Hardik had a big chance to be the hero of victory in this match. Had a great start but could not make the innings big. Hardik got out for 46 off 24 balls.
In the end, Tilak tried to win with Tim David. Mumbai Indian’s chances ended when he was run out for 63 runs (32 balls) off the first ball of the last over. Besides, David scored 37 runs off 17 balls.
MI started losing wickets from the start chasing the big target of 258 runs given by DC. Opener Rohit Sharma got out after scoring 8 runs off 8 balls. MI scored 65 runs in the power play while making quick runs but lost 3 wickets. As an impact cricketer, Suryakumar Yadav scored 26 runs off 13 balls.
Then Tilak and David put on 70 runs in 29 balls for the sixth wicket. It increased MI’s chances of victory but in the end, the team could not reach the port of victory. Among the rest, Ishan Kishan scored 20 runs and Piyush Chawla scored 10 runs. Mukesh Kumar and Rasikh Dar Salam took 3 wickets each for DC. Khaleel Ahmed got 2 wickets.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals lost the toss and started batting. And this hurling start was led by opener Jake Fraser-McGurk. Earlier last Saturday he scored a 15-ball fifty against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), which was the fastest in the IPL. In this match too he scored fifty off 15 balls. Fraser-McGurk played a devastating innings of 84 runs off 27 balls with 11 fours and 6 sixes.
At one stage of Fraser-McGurk’s innings, it looked like he might break Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest century. But in the end, this batter could not do it. When Fraser-McGurk was out, he broke the partnership of 114 runs made in 46 balls with Abishek Porel. Porel got a chance in the opening and made 36 off 27 balls.
Then Shai Hope’s unbeaten innings of 41 off 17 balls and Tristan Stubbs’ unbeaten innings of 48 off 25 balls made DC pick up 257 runs. Even in such stormy innings, Jasprit Bumrah managed to keep himself well. Bumrah, who gave 18 runs in the first over, spent only 17 runs in the next 3 overs. Also got 1 wicket. Besides, Luke Wood, Piyush Chawla, and Mohammad Nabi took 1 wicket each for MI.
With their fifth win in the tenth match, Delhi Capitals have now moved up to the fifth position in the points table. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians, who tasted the sixth loss in the ninth match, are now in the ninth position of the standings.
