The 59th game of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) would pit Gujarat Titans (GT) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). On May 10, the match will take place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium and will kick off at 7:30 PM IST.
For the GT to make the playoffs, a miracle is required. They are positioned at the bottom of the standings with just four victories in 11 matches. To stand a chance of qualifying, GT must win all three matches by enormous margins, but their next three opponents are the three most formidable teams in the IPL2024: CSK, KKR, and SRH. To be fair, the IPL 2022 champions haven’t shown any signs of being a competitive squad, and the journey to the final seems like a far-off fantasy.
Concurrently, CSK resumed their winning ways with a 28-run victory over PBKS. CSK must win all three encounters to guarantee a spot in the playoffs. The battle for the final two positions is fierce, with SRH, DC, LSG, and even RCB in the mix. The points table is crowded. While winning all three games would be ideal for CSK to secure a postseason berth, they most assuredly won’t lose to GT. To maintain their position, CSK has to defeat GT to play RR in Chennai. But there’s reason for concern given the inconsistent playing of Daryl Mitchell, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ajinkya Rahane. Moreover, it appears that the bowling will be poor with Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana sidelined.
The Gujarat Titans are positioned in hostile territory. Not only have none of the players demonstrated any form, but the team also lacks many viable substitutes. They’ll probably start with the same starting lineup. Because he can enter the game quickly and score runs in the middle overs, Vijay Shankar can be employed as an impact player. Should the squad want a bowler, Sandeep Warrier would be a wise choice.
Shubman Gill has been a major contributor to the team’s struggles this season with his lackluster play. Despite his lack of consistency, he has scored 322 runs in the IPL 2024. Gill needs to produce a strong innings if GT is to have any chance of surprising CSK. Although Sai Sudharshan made a few runs, his strike percentage is dubious. At 130 strikes per hundred, he has scored 424 runs. If Sudharsan can play with the appropriate intent, he can make big strokes, so increasing his strike rate shouldn’t be an issue.
With just eight wickets in the competition thus far, Rashid Khan’s performance has been lackluster. Rashid Khan needs to regain his form because if he isn’t picking any wickets, GT will be in serious difficulty. The only other player in GT who could hold his head high is most likely Noor Ahmed. Despite having just claimed eight wickets, he has appeared to be the most dangerous bowler of them all.

CSK has an abundance problem. Due to an injury, Mustafiz has returned home, while Matheesha Pathirana has also returned to Sri Lanka. Maheesh Theekshana is fit, but Santner will probably start from the bench after his strong performance in the previous encounter. Rachin Ravindra could be brought in by CSK in place of Richard Gleeson. Mukesh Choudhary could replace Ajinkya Rahane.
In IPL 2024, Ruturaj Gaikwad has done a commendable job leading the team. With 541 runs, he is the second-highest run scorer in the tournament. The captain needs to be at the top of his game against GT because CSK’s batting has suffered when Gaikwad has underperformed. Shivam Dube has been out for ducks in the last two games due to lack of form. He has, nevertheless, been a standout player for the squad all season, and against the Gujarat Titans, one almost senses a huge innings from him.
Against PBKS, Ravindra Jadeja scored an important 43 runs. Since Jadeja is one of the team’s key players and CSK depends on him to contribute with the bat, runs are a huge plus.
