Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings (Match 59) – Highlights

Chasing the target of 232 runs set by Gujarat Titans (GT), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost 3 wickets to score just 10 runs. Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali tried to bring the team back into the fight by forming up a pair of hundred runs. However, after their departure, no one could stand up well. As a result, the Super Kings have been defeated by a big margin.

Gujarat Titans beat Super Kings by 35 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday (May 10). Two openers Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill contributed greatly to the winning team’s success. Both have scored centuries. They made a record pair in the opening by batting brilliantly.

After losing the toss and being put into bat first, Sudharsan and Shubman took on CSK’s bowlers right from the start. 58 runs came from the powerplay. These two Titans batsmen became more destructive after the powerplay. They picked up 132 runs from 7 to 15 overs.

210 runs from the opening pair. Sudharsan and Shubman’s names also went up in the record book. In the history of IPL, these two batsmen have created the record of joint maximum runs in the opening pair. Earlier in the 2022 IPL, KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock scored an unbroken opening partnership of 210 runs for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Sudharsan scored 103 runs off 51 balls smashing 7 sixes and 5 fours. On the other hand, Shubman played an innings of 104 runs off 55 balls with 6 sixes and 9 fours. Both were dismissed by Tushar Deshpande in the 18th over of the innings. In the end, GT’s innings stopped at 231 runs.

CSK lost 3 wickets in 3 overs and came under pressure. No one could score runs in the team’s top order. Rachin Ravindra (1), Ajinkya Rahane (1), and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (0) were out quickly. However, Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali took the pressure off well with a 57-ball 109-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Mitchell played an innings of 63 runs off 34 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes.

On the other hand, Moeen scored 56 runs in 36 balls with an equal number of 4 fours and sixes. However, due to the loss of the wickets of these two in a quick interval, CSK could not match the equation. In the end, MS Dhoni was unbeaten on 26 runs off 11 balls.

Mohit Sharma took the highest number of 3 wickets for GT. Besides, Rashid Khan picked up 2 wickets and Umesh Yadav and Sandeep Warrier took 1 wicket each. Moreover, captain Shubman Gill was selected as the player of the match after playing a great innings.

The Gujarat Titans’ chances of playing in the playoffs remain alive with this win. With 10 points in 12 matches, Titans ranked eighth in the points table. Chennai Super Kings are fourth in the standings with 12 points taking part in the same number of matches.
