South Africa and West Indies met in the 2nd match of the three-match ODI series at Buffalo Park, East London yesterday. After a dismal performance in the two Tests, the West Indies entered the match with a Test series loss. Batting first, they made a good target in the allotted 50 overs.

 

Later on, chasing that target, South Africa collapsed before the end of the scheduled 50 overs. West Indies took a 1-0 lead in the series by 48 runs. On the other hand, Shai Hope won the man of the match title with great batting.

Although the West Indies could not play well in Tests. But as the first match was abandoned due to rain, Captain Shai Hope showed a great performance in the second match. Openers Kyle Myers and Brandon King got off to a good start after winning the toss. They made a partnership of 67 runs in 8.3 overs. But then their opener Kyle Myers left the field. He scored 36 runs off 26 balls with the help of 5 fours and 2 sixes.

 

Then Shamarh Brooks entered the field. He left the field after playing 5 balls for 0 runs. After two balls, Brandon King was bowled out and returned to the dressing room. He scored 30 runs off 29 balls with 4 fours before leaving the field. At that time West Indies were at 71 runs for 3 wickets. 

 

From there, Rovman Powell and Nicholas Pooran took the team’s run to 157 runs. But then Nicolas Pooran left for the dressing room. He played 41 balls and scored 39 runs. He also hit 5 fours. Then Rovman Powell and Captain Shai Hope took the team’s run to 237 runs.

 

Rovman Powell left the field after being bowled out in the 38th over. He scored 46 runs off 49 balls with the help of 2 fours and 3 sixes. Besides, Jason Holder scored 15 runs, Alzari Joseph scored 13 runs, Akeal Hussain scored 2 runs, and Odean Smith scored 1 run.

 

Captain Shai Hope scored the most runs for them. He brought West Indies 335 runs by scoring an unbeaten century in the first match as captain. He scored 128 runs from 115 balls with the help of 5 fours and 7 sixes. In the end, they made this huge target by losing 8 wickets with 25 extra runs.

 

Gerald Coetzee took 3 wickets for South Africa. Bjorn Fortuin and Tabrez Shamsi took 2 wickets each. Besides, Marco Jansen took 1 wicket.

In reply to 335 runs in the 2nd innings, Bavuma’s team stopped at 287 runs. Batting for a target of 336 runs, South Africa scored 78 runs in the first 10 overs. De Kock scored 48 runs off 26 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. Proteas reached 123 runs after losing only 1 wicket in 16 overs. However, none of the middle-order batsmen could help. So despite playing a career-best innings, Bavuma had to be on the losing side.

 

Captain Temba Bavuma left the field scoring 144 runs off 118 balls with the help of 11 fours and 7 sixes. Besides, Ryan Rickelton scored 14 runs off 16 balls. Tony De Zorzi scored 27 runs off 26 balls with the help of 4 fours. Marco Jansen scored 17 runs, and Lungi scored just 12 runs off 23 balls. In the end, they had to leave the field after losing 10 wickets with 9 extra runs.

 

Alzarri Joseph and Akeal Hussain took 3 wickets each for West Indies. Besides, Kyle Myers, Yannic Cariah, and Odean Smith took 1 wicket each.
