Southern Brave defeated Welsh Fire by 42 runs. Southern Brave, batting first, posted a total of 139 for 5, led by a stellar unbeaten 73 off 50 balls by James Vince, who was named Player of the Match. In response, Welsh Fire were all out for 97 runs in 95 balls. Tymal Mills (4 for 16) and Danny Briggs (3 for 14) were instrumental in dismantling the Welsh Fire batting lineup, ensuring a comprehensive win for Southern Brave.
Southern Brave secured their fourth victory in five matches in The Hundred this season, overpowering Welsh Fire by 42 runs at Sophia Gardens. James Vince anchored Southern Brave’s innings with an unbeaten 73 from 50 deliveries, setting a challenging target of 140 for Welsh Fire. Despite his absence in this match, due to ECB’s workload management, Jofra Archer’s team managed an effortless victory.
Welsh Fire won the toss and chose to field first. The batting lineup for the Southern Braves formed strong partnerships thanks to the efforts of Alex Davies, Leus du Plooy, and Kieron Pollard. Vince’s superb 73 not out featured seven boundaries and three sixes. A late cameo from Chris Jordan included a massive 98-meter six, but he was caught by David Willey off the final ball, bowled by David Payne.
In an attempt to take advantage of the lighting, Welsh Fire’s two best bowlers were Haris Rauf (2 for 22) and Matt Henry (1 for 20). But Luke Wells and Jonny Bairstow could only muster 29 runs in the first thirty balls against opening bowlers Craig Overton and Akeal Hosein.
Then, with both openers falling in rapid succession, the Brave’s bowlers assumed control. Danny Briggs (3 for 14), Chris Jordan (2 for 19), and Tymal Mills (4 for 16) destroyed the Fire’s batting order to give Southern Brave an easy win.
