Batting first, the Superchargers were bowled out for a pitiful 83 runs, with Tim Southee collecting 3 for 15 and Adam Milne taking 3 for 20. Phoenix, in reply, reached the target in just 39 balls thanks to scores of 43* and 37* from Ben Duckett and Moeen Ali, who combined for an 86 for 0. Tim Southee’s superb bowling performance earned him the title of Player of the Match.

Birmingham Phoenix bolstered their chances of securing a top-three finish with a commanding victory over Northern Superchargers in The Hundred at Edgbaston on Tuesday. The Phoenix delivered a stellar performance, dismissing the visitors for a mere 83 runs before achieving the fastest chase in the history of The Hundred men’s competition, led by Ben Duckett and Moeen Ali.

Winning the toss, the Northern Superchargers opted to bat, with excitement surrounding the return of England Men’s Test captain Ben Stokes. However, Stokes’ return was less than ideal; after waiting 20 deliveries at the non-striker’s end, he was bowled for a golden duck by Tim Southee, who delivered a ball that nipped back sharply through the gate.

The Phoenix’s New Zealand pacers set the tone early in the contest. Tim Southee removed the risky Nicholas Pooran with his next delivery after taking out Matt Short with the first blow. Captain Harry Brook tried to stabilize the innings alongside Adam Hose, but even Brook struggled with the challenging pitch and was eventually dismissed by Chris Wood, leaving the Superchargers at 36 for 4 at the halfway mark.

The Superchargers’ situation worsened due to a brilliant run-out executed by Duckett, which removed Hose 10 balls later. Southee finished his impressive spell with figures of 3 for 15, and Milne supported with 3 for 20, as the visitors were bowled out for a paltry 83 – the second-lowest total in the history of the Men’s Hundred.

Ben Duckett continued his excellent form, smashing 43 off 20 balls, while his opening partner Moeen Ali was equally aggressive, scoring 37 from 21 deliveries. Their unbeaten partnership ensured a swift 10-wicket victory for the Phoenix, hampering the Superchargers’ hopes of reaching The Hundred Eliminator. With this win, Moeen’s team leapfrogged their opponents into third place, positioning themselves well for the tournament’s latter stages.
