Jamie Smith replaced Moeen at the crease and looked in excellent touch, scoring 12 runs from his first three deliveries. His performance was instrumental in restricting Welsh Fire to 146 for 8, marking his second four-wicket haul of the season. Stephen Eskinazi provided a solid start for Welsh Fire with a 21-ball 30, but the rest of the top order faltered. Luke Wells was deceived by an Adam Milne slower ball, while Joe Clarke and Tom Abell both fell to Abbott’s sharp bowling.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore injected some life into the innings with a quickfire 54 off 32 balls, including five boundaries and a six. He launched an assault on Tim Southee, hitting three consecutive fours before being dismissed by Abbott. Abbott later claimed his fourth wicket by having David Payne caught by Southee.

Matt Henry managed to hit two boundaries off his fellow New Zealander Milne in the final set of the innings, but it wasn’t enough as Welsh Fire’s hopes of making the knockout stage were extinguished.
