Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals (Match 64) – Highlights
Liam Livingstone brought the match closer to hands by scoring 16 runs in three consecutive decent shots. 16 more runs were needed off the last three balls. But the English all-rounder could not hit Ishant Sharma for a boundary at the end. After failing to take a boundary in the fourth and fifth balls, he raised a catch in the last ball.
Not only did Ishant bring Delhi Capitals (DC) to victory, but his team also took sweet revenge as he sent Livingstone back to the dressing room after the batter played a blistering innings of 94 runs off 48 balls.
Just 4 days ago, the Capitals lost their playoff hopes getting defeated by 31 runs to Punjab Kings (PBKS). This time, David Warner’s team almost closed the Kings’ way to the last four after beating them by 15 runs. After playing 13 matches, DC’s points are 10, and PBKS has got 12 points.
The Kings suffered the most from the loss. Because, if they won this match, they would have 14 points. And if they won the last match after that, the playoffs would have been confirmed for them; But due to their loss in this match, playing in the playoffs has become almost doubtful for Shikhar Dhawan’s team. They are currently in eighth position in the points table with 12 points from 13 matches.
Losing the toss and batting at Dharamsala, DC collected a huge score of 213 runs losing only 2 wickets. In reply, PBKS’s innings came to an end after losing 8 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs to collect 198 runs. Rilee Rossouw was selected as DC’s player of the match after playing a brilliant inning of 82 runs off 37 balls.
DC’s two openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw gave the team a flying start when they came down to bat. The two made a partnership of 94 runs off 62 balls. Warner got dismissed after scoring 46 runs off 31 balls. He included 5 boundaries and 2 sixes with his bat. Warner returned to the dressing room, but Prithvi picked up his half-century. After returning from injury, the batsman scored 54 runs off 38 balls. There, he hit 1 six with 7 boundaries.
DC did not lose any more wickets after the second wicket fell for the team’s 148 runs. After Prithvi’s departure, Rossouw became more dangerous. He played a tornado innings of 82 runs off 37 balls. Rossouw hit an even number of 6 boundaries and sixes. Philip Salt played an unbeaten inning of 26 runs playing 14 balls. English all-rounder Sam Curran grabbed both wickets with 36 runs in 4 overs for PBKS.
Chasing a big target, PBKS lost two wickets for the team’s 50 runs. Opener Prabhsimran Singh returned with 22 runs and skipper Dhawan with zero runs. However, Livingstone kept PBKS aligned on the road to victory with Atharva Taide for the 3rd wicket. The duo’s 50-ball 78-run partnership stopped when Atharva left the field being retired. Atharva scored 55 runs in 42 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes. Livingstone went the rest of the way alone.
Kings have required 33 runs in the last over to win. Livingstone took 17 runs off the first three balls with a combination of no balls and four-sixes. But this English batsman could not match the equation of 16 runs in the last three balls. Livingstone played an excellent innings of 94 runs off 48 balls smashing 9 sixes alongside 5 boundaries.
Pacers Anrich Nortje and Ishant Sharma took the highest number of two wickets each for DC. Apart from them, Khaleel Ahmed and Axar Patel took 1 wicket each.
