USA – 2024

The 2024 T20 World Cup has been historic for the USA, not just as co-hosts but as a team that has exceeded expectations. Playing in their first-ever T20 World Cup, the USA displayed remarkable all-round performances to secure a spot in the Super Eight stage from Group A, leaving behind tournament-favorite Pakistan.

The USA’s journey began with a commanding win over Canada, where they chased down 195 runs with seven wickets in hand. In a thrilling encounter against Pakistan, the USA showcased their resilience and fighting spirit, winning the match in a Super Over. These two wins and the points from an abandoned match due to inclement weather were enough to see the USA finish second in Group A and advance to the Super Eight stage.

Led by Monank Patel, the USA team demonstrated that they were more than capable of competing at the highest level. Their journey to the Super Eight in their debut T20 World Cup is a testament to their hard work, preparation, and the growing cricketing culture in the country. 

Namibia – 2021

Namibia

Namibia’s entry into the 2021 T20 World Cup was nothing short of sensational. The tournament, originally scheduled for 2020 but postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saw Namibia making their presence felt from the outset. In Group A, Namibia delivered stunning victories against Ireland and the Netherlands to finish second behind Sri Lanka.

Namibia’s campaign was bolstered by the stellar performances of David Wiese. In their match against the Netherlands, Wiese’s unbeaten 66 off 40 balls powered Namibia to a six-wicket victory while chasing 165. They continued their winning streak with another convincing win over Ireland, chasing down 126 runs in 18.3 overs, with Wiese once again playing a crucial role.

This successful group stage campaign propelled Namibia into the Super 12 phase. Despite winning only one out of five matches in the Super 12s, with their sole victory coming against Scotland, Namibia’s debut in the T20 World Cup was hailed as a triumph. 

Ireland – 2009

Ireland

Ireland’s cricketing journey has been a story of consistent growth and remarkable performances on the global stage. In the 2009 T20 World Cup, under the leadership of William Porterfield, Ireland announced their arrival in style. They stunned Bangladesh, a formidable opponent, to secure their first victory in the tournament. Chasing a modest target of 138, Ireland’s Niall O’Brien played a crucial knock, scoring 40 off 25 balls, ensuring a comfortable victory in 18.2 overs.

Despite losing to India in their other group fixture, Ireland’s win against Bangladesh was enough to see them finish second in the group and progress to the Super Eight stage. Although they could not secure any wins in the Super Eight phase, losing all three matches, their spirited performances left a lasting impression.
